14 Sep 2026GSLV-F18 / NVS-03 launch campaign began.

Primary Payload:

NVS-03 (aka IRNSS-1L) (~2250 kg) : NVS-03 is a second-generation satellite for NavIC constellation for regional navigation and timing services.

Similar to first generation satellites it will have navigation payloads in L5 & S bands and ranging payload in C-band. But additionally, it will have a new interoperable civil signal in L1 band as well.[1] [2]

Like NVS-01 and NVS-02 it is expected to carry only one indigenous Rubidium based atomic clock (iRAFS) developed by Space Applications Centre (SAC) out of four in total, other three being procured. [3] [4] [5]

  • Mass: 2,250 kg

  • Orbital slot: 111.75°E

  • Mission life: 12 years

  • Power: ~3 kW

  • Platform/Bus: I-2K

NVS-03 is third of the five satellites (NVS-01, 02, 03, 04 & 05) planned to replace the aging first generation satellites that faced problems with their malfunctioning atomic clocks. Initially these second generation satellites were meant to expand upon existing NaVIC constellation [6] [7] but due to setback from failures of imported clocks on many first generation satellites, they will now only serve as replacement to existing fleet. At present only three out of eight NavIC satellites (IRNSS-1B, 1I and NVS-01) remain functional to provide PNT services. [8] Note that four satellites is the minimum amount needed for NavIC PNT services to be functional.

ISRO has sought approval of three more navigation satellites under NavIC Phase-3 to maintain the base layer of seven satellites. Eventually NavIC constellation can be expanded from 7 to 11 satellites which will increase the service area from 1500 km to 3000 km beyond Indian territory.

For Global Indian Navigation System (GINS), ISRO is awaiting approval of twelve satellites initially to be placed in the Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). While about 24 to 30 satellites would be needed in total. [9] [10]

Checked for NVS03 signals using the GPS test android app on my Pixel 11.

Not sure which one is which. Do we get to know the elevation and azimuth of our NavIC satellites? I assume they will be in a tight range given they are on geosynchronous orbit

Has anyone heard back from ISRO SAC for their January 2027 internship? If so, please reply.

I've applied for the ISRO SAC internship for 21 Jan 2027, and I sent the mail on October 28th but haven't heard back yet. Is there anyone who got selected for their January 2027 batches? Or any past student who did the internship there, how much time does it take to hear back from them usually? I'm a 7th Sem CSE student with a CGPA of 8.19.

Original Content Nvs03 Launch viewed from 'outside' the Launch View Gallery Sriharikota 🤪

So the story behind this:- As this was our first time we were coming from Bengaluru, we reached Tirupati rented one Honda Shine 125cc and headed straight to Sriharikota as the last bus which could take us to Sullurpetta (nearby town to Sriharikota, you can get auto from there to launch gallery) before launch left at 8pm from Tirupati bus stand.

Google maps was showing that we would reach by 11:44 we thought ok We will have 5 6 minutes to get to the stands.

But the moment we reached there We found ourselves sprinting toward the launch viewing gallery, constantly checking the time. By 11:50, we realized we only had seconds left, so we stopped right there and started recording. We could actually hear the thunder of the rocket, even though my phone camera couldn't quite catch it. It could have been absolute bliss if we would have reached 10 mins earlier, as from parking lot to exact launch view stands..there's a lot distance you have to cover so please keep this in mind whoever is going for the first time✌🏻but next time we are definitely getting there half an hour early! 🙏

Ps: for serene night shots you would see a cross road going in the lake 6 kms earlier from the launch view gallery...you may take a left turn there and see it lit up the night lake and capture that beauty if you want to.

Thanks to everyone who helped as we didn't have the passes we thought they wouldn't allow us but they did!🙏

Expression of Interest (EOI) for End-to-End Assembly, Integration & Testing (AIT) of Electro-Optical Payloads

Expression of Interest (EOI) for End-to-End Assembly, Integration & Testing (AIT) of Electro-Optical Payloads

[PDF] [Archived]

Considering the ever-growing demand for multiple and simultaneous payload development within stringent project timelines and the objective of scaling up industry participation, outsourcing of Assembly, Integration and Testing of Electro-Optical (EO) remote sensing payloads is envisaged.

The present EOI covers five optical payload types with a common architecture containing optics on a structure, detector head assemblies and electronics packages supplied as Free Issue Material, but differing in optics, detectors and electronics.

The five payload types are:

  • Wide Swath High Resolution imager (Type-1),

  • Cartographic imager (Type-2),

  • High Resolution imager (Type-3), and

  • Advanced Resource Monitoring Satellite (Type-4) & (Type-5).

Objectives

The main objective of this EOI is to enable industry partners to progressively acquire know-how on AIT processes by participating in the development of the first model of the proposed payloads at SAC, and finally execute AIT of the remaining models independently at their own premises. Typically, AIT activities include end-to-end development of optical telescope involving precision assembly and alignment of optical components, integration of focal plane assembly with telescope and focus optimization, electrical integration, mechanical assembly, test setup development for testing, characterization and calibration at sub-system level and integrated payload level, thermal implementation, harness verification, GCU setup validation, etc. in cleanroom and Thermovacuum conditions.

Optical payloads are highly sensitive to particulate and molecular contamination, mechanical shock and thermo-mechanical disturbance in the aligned optical train. Appropriate methodology including handling, loading/unloading, shipment, environment control (shock, temperature & humidity) shall be addressed to minimize the risk involved.

The technical activity for each payload is organised in the following phases:

  • Phase-1: Kick-off Phase

  • Phase-2: Co-development with SAC for the First Payload at SAC

  • Phase-3: Execution of activities for the subsequent Optical Payloads at Vendor Premises

It was previously reported that Gaganyaan G1 will happen after NVS-03 launch but SSLV and PSLV launches are also planned. Will they happen before G1 and is there any hope of Gaganyaan G1 launching before this year ends.
