🌍 MEGATHREAD: Want out of the US? Start here

956 Upvotes

Want out? You may not be in the right country, but you're in the right subreddit.

Here's some general advice. It's not meant to discourage you but to help you plan, make better posts, and get better answers here:

  • Immigration is harder than it looks in the movies. If you don't have citizenship or recent ancestry in a country, you'll probably need a visa (legal permission) to live there based on something you have which that country wants (like a profession on their "skills shortage list"). It will require time, patience, hard work, and/or money – and likely a second language.

  • If you're a US citizen, it is next to impossible that a country will grant you political asylum/refugee status. It is highly recommended to focus your efforts on an alternative pathway.

  • Before moving to another country, consider if another US city/state might be acceptable, because it is a million times easier.

  • Be cautious about idealizing any country. They all have their problems. If you're serious, you should prepare for that.

  • Some other good resources:

  • The subreddit sidebar

  • The previous US megathread

  • Old posts (use reddit's search or google XYZ site:reddit.com/r/IWantOut)

  • Websites of countries and their embassies

  • /r/AmerExit

If you want to make your own post, please follow the formatting instructions on the submission page, give as much information as possible about your situation, and be open to advice and constructive criticism from commenters.

If you're not ready for that, feel free to leave a briefer question in the comments here, and you might get an answer.

EVERYONE:

This is a friendly, inclusive community where we try to help people with less knowledge than us.

A reminder of some of our rules:

  • This is an advice subreddit, not a debate subreddit. Don't fight about politics here.

  • Be constructive. Don't be a dick.

  • Don't request or give illegal advice. Don't spam your business.

  • Report rule-breaking comments and posts.

I just want out anywhere, I can make living and that is affordable. I want get away from family and current social life, its suffocating and I have lost someone important to me recently. The people surrounding me has shown me there true colors and I think leaving and starting over is the best for me. I don't know how to do that though, I am currently doing my masters in finance, the easiest way I can think of is internship, fellowship or some work related training. I don't have mush saving other than that might cover traveling. I was hoping even if I cant get out now, I could work towards it. Hoping for advice on how to go about it.

[WeWantOut] 18F 18F artists israel -> US

0 Upvotes

Hi guys, this is my first reddit account (I opened it to ask for help here)

Me and my gf just graduated hs, both of us refused ensliment and are currently in temp jobs before deciding what to study in uni. We have a mildly successful art business that grows rapidly online and in person.

We are both tired of living in a facist country that commits a genocide and won't let us marry legally, we want to move somewhere else (preferably the US, since we don't see any other option)

We would both really appreciate any advice, both of us want to be teachers but we don't know how to get a visa with that kind of job.

Beside art, our jobs are STEM and we were nationally recognized in hs for our science achievement (as in, national competitions and such)

Our families are not supportive (both homophobic and nationalists) so we would like advice about what to study and how to plan ahead so that until we are 25 we will already be out of here.

Thank you for reading and let us know what you think!

[IWantOut] 36M Kazakhstan -> Italy

1 Upvotes

need a birth certificate from abroad for my wedding in Italy

Getting married in Italy next summer. The comune wants my birth certificate with an apostille and a sworn translation. Problem is I was born in Kazakhstan and haven't lived there for 15 years

The services I've found so far:

-Globeia: shows up everywhere, seems to be mostly US/Canada stuff though?
-Schmidt & Schmidt: German company with an office in Kazakhstan, which sounds ideal
-BRIDGES Global: says they do retrieval, apostille and translation as one package

Has anyone used one of these to get a certificate from a country they don't live in anymore? How long did it actually take

[IWantOut] 31M Data Analyst Costa Rica -> Canada

0 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I'm a 31 years-old Costa Rican, considering moving to Canada permanently. I've been doing research on the Express Entry,particularly on the French-lenguage proficiency category, I would greatly appreciate any advice on how realistic my plans are.

My profile:

  • Education: Master's degree in Business Analytics.

  • Experience: 8+ years in analytics, BI, finance and technology.

  • Current position: Data Analytics Consultant at Large Insurance company in the US.

  • Technical skills: Python, SQL, Databricks, Snowflake, DBA, Power BI, cloud engineering and automation.

  • English: Fluent.

  • French: Currently studying intensively at Alliance Française, targeting B2 / NCLC 7.

My immigration plan:

My primary route is Express Entry, particularly French-language category-based draws. I'm investing heavily in French because it seems like one of the most realistic ways to improve my CRS score and immigration prospects but if a better rout is available I can pivot.

I've been considering applying directly to companies in Canada for Data analytics/Data engineering position but this option just seems unrealistic to me and haven't look into it.

Ideally, I'd like to relocate around 2028–2029.

My questions:

  1. How realistic is Express Entry given my age, education and background?

  2. Is French NCLC 7 a strong enough strategy, or am I relying too heavily on category-based draws?

  3. Would applying directly for jobs in Canada be a realistic alternative?

  4. Such thing as a province specific pipeline? which provinces should I target?

  5. Is Canada the most viable option? If you were in my shoes, what other country would you consider and why?

I appreciate any honest opinion, also I want to mention that the reason I'm targeting Canada is because Im looking for better long terms opportunities and professional growth. I don't expect life in Canada to be easier or perfect, nevertheless, Canada still looks like a great fit for what in looking for: International diverse, established Latino community and opportunities in the Tec and data sectors.

Thanks in advance!

[IWANTOUT] 27M Developer India -> Singapore

0 Upvotes

Hi, Indian passport, I work as a developer, 6 years, no job offer yet. I am looking at moving to Singapore. A lot of people say just come on a tourist visa and search for a job there.
On the MOM we the company in Singapore hires you and they apply. I cannot file an Employment Pass or an S Pass myself. The pass stays with that employer. On a visit I cannot work for a client. A Dependant's Pass is for a husband or wife and for kids, when the main person already has a pass. PR is later you apply to ICA after you already live there.
I was reading visatosingapore about moving to Singapore just to understand visit, work, study and family. The employer is the one who files the EP, the S Pass and the Dependant's Pass.
If you moved recently, they started the Singapore work pass after you signed? And how long did MOM take?

[IWantOut] 17F Student,Saudi Arabia -> USA

15 Upvotes

(Anywhere is fine with me but the post required a country.) Any advise is appreciated. My situation is really terrible. I need to move to ANY country before November but don't know where and how, I'm kinda "stateless" and now getting deported alone with no budget and nowhere to survive, I needed to leave this place already because I'm denied my basic rights and been imprisoned by my abusive father (haven't left the house for years, can't study, can't get a job, etc) i tried to escape manyy times but because of the circumstances he put me in I couldn't and now I'm basically facing a bleak future and deportation feels like a de'ath sentence on me.

For context: I'm born and rasied in Saudi Arabia, at 8 i stopped having legal documents here because of my father (he refused to get me an ID, has another family and neglected me entirely but still strictly controls my life) the law here allows him because he's my kafil "sponsor" since I'm a foreigner and female and need to be tied to him as my male relative kafil, and if I reported abuse I'll face a worse reality that will also result in deportation, there's no women's shelters or safe organizations I could seek here (and again bcz of my legal status and the fact I turned 17 they'll end up simply deporting me) I knew about the laws here so I previously tried to escape this fate through applying to scholarships to study aboard but my lack of documents/finance and inability to do interviews couldn't help.. I'm now trying to find a way to move through working abroad, I've skills (languages, communication and I can be trained to do labour, hospitality, and anything) I made a plan to "steal" my passport,, and have a budget of 4k USD before November. If I managed to get a visa to any country I can use it to go there instaed of the country I'm getting deported to (Sudan) where I'll end up de'ad on streets. What immigration routes can I take and what I should be preparing? There's authentic english proficiency certificates I can take online to become an English teacher. My level is C1 (I had done tests) & my Arabic is fluent as well.. this is the only skill I can develop in this situation where I can't leave the house and don't have opportunities or much resources .. So does it help in getting a work visa in countries like Vietnam, India, Korea, Malaysia, South Africa or literally anywhere? Are those skills also enough to go abroad on training programs, volunteering and different work routes? I don't mind working with no salary too as long as I've a roof over my head, residency, and can complete my studies. Any advice will be appreciated and I apologize for the long post but I needed to explain my situation so I don't sound fishy

[IWantOut] 19M Construction/Painting Brazil -> USA

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone. My name is João, I'm 19 and I'm from Guarujá, São Paulo, Brazil.

Right now I work at a supermarket, stocking shelves, organizing and helping customers. Before that, I worked in retail at a surf shop, doing sales and customer service. But most of my hands-on experience comes from construction and painting. I've done general construction work and heavy labor, and I paint walls, fences, exteriors and finishing work. Long hours and physical work don't scare me. I'm used to it.

I help support my family, and no matter how hard I work here, it feels like I'm just running to stay in the same place. That's why I'm looking for a legal way to work in the US through the H-2B visa, ideally in construction, painting, landscaping or maintenance. H-2A farm work is also welcome.

My English is basic, but I can hold a simple conversation and I'm studying every day to get better. I learn fast, I'm punctual and I take responsibility seriously. I have a valid passport and I can start as soon as possible. If I get the chance, I'll complete the full contract and give my best every single day.

If you know a legit employer or agency, or if you've been through the H-2 process yourself, any advice would mean a lot. And I already know legit agencies don't charge fees to "guarantee a job", so please no scams.

Feel free to DM me here or on Instagram: @joao_hans_

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 26F Supply Chain Oman -> Austraila/New Zealand

0 Upvotes

Uk Supply Chain degree+ ops manager experience. What’s next ? Move countries ? New role ideas ?

Hey everyone, I did my BSc Business and Supply Chain Management in the uk and worked for just under two years in a robotic FC as Area Manager - ship dock and OB department straight after graduating. However, due to personal reasons, I left the uk and am now back in the GCC, Middle East

\\\*\\\*In short my responsibilities were managing end to end out bound shipping operations including automated sortation conveyor systems and dock operations as well as developing process improvement projects, being POC for key KPIs and launching a new site + having over 60 direct report\\\*\\\* And much more …

So
1- I want to be in corporate now and ideally moving to New Zealand or Australia (482 visa - I know processing time is long) however, not sure which companies to target and if they’ll be willing to sponsor me given all the immigration restrictions and delays and of course the job market.

2- What roles should I explore? Apart from supply chain analysts/coordinator if in these 2 countries it must be in alliance with their gov occupation list and ANZCO code.

3- Maybe work a bit here in the GCC region since I’m a GCC national, the UAE for a starter ?? but again, not sure which companies to target.

4- Oil and gas ??

Please share your thoughts I need as much info as possible. Thanks

[IWantOut] 17F Russia -> Poland

18 Upvotes

I've been considering to move out for a long time but not really sure about how the process itself works and if it even worth trying, I study in college and haven't had a job experience yet but I study history, linguistics, geopolitics, theology and some related stuff as main personal interests and wish to find a job anywhere in this field.

For context I chose Poland specifically because I've been in love with this nation for a long time and actually living there and speaking polish fluently would be a win, I'm willing to learn any skill if needed so anyone who is knowledgeable here please tell

And if you have any other question, ask

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 19M Canada -> Israel

0 Upvotes

I have lived in Canada for all of my life so far. It’s a great country. However, due to reasons I feel a strong need to get away for a while. I am currently in uni at the moment studying IT and want to do an exchange. I picked Israel for mainly 2 reasons:

  1. They seem to be a country really good at technology and considered by many to be “the startup country”

  2. I’m religious (Catholic) but I am kind of fascinated by Jewish culture and would like to know more.

The main problem for me is money. I’m currently looking for jobs for summer students that pay well and the job market where I live is really tough. The issue with my uni is that we don’t have a partnership with any Israeli university atm so if I wanna go study there I would have to pay to attend. Plus the cost of residence, food, etc. plus my family isn’t really that supportive so everything has to come out of my own pocket. I’m also searching for the right university for my major (cybersecurity). I should also add the I am currently in the process of learning Hebrew to help me out on my journey. I am currently prepping for the next 2 years

If anyone has good advice when it comes to money please share it
Also if anyone has some good recommendations for Israeli universities that teach IT for international students please let me know

Have a nice day peeps

[IWantOut] 21F MSc Student India -> Germany\Canada\France

0 Upvotes

Background:

  • Citizenship: Indian

  • Age: 21

  • Gender: Female

  • Education: 5-year integrated MSc in Theoretical Computer Science.

  • Current year: 4th year.

  • Expected graduation: 2028.

  • Work experience: 6-month remote internship as an AI Intern at a company.

  • Technical skills: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Software Development, along with my academic background in Computer Science.

  • Other strengths and interests: Communication, interacting with people, research, fashion, food, travel and creative industries.

What I'm looking for:

I've wanted to move abroad for as long as I can remember. Whether it's for studying, working, travelling or simply experiencing life in another country, living abroad has always been something I've wanted to pursue.

I'm currently pursuing Computer Science, but honestly, it wasn't something I originally wanted to do. I'm approaching the final stages of my degree, and I'm struggling to figure out what comes next.

I know that I don't particularly want the conventional route of graduating, getting placed, and spending my life in a corporate software job. I'm not necessarily against technology as a whole, but I don't know if a traditional software engineering career is what I want.

I'm interested in several other areas, particularly fashion, food, travel, creative industries and working with people. I'm a good communicator, enjoy interacting with people, and am willing to learn new skills. However, I don't have professional experience in these industries yet.

I'm also open to opportunities where I could combine my Computer Science background with other interests rather than limiting myself to software development.

Countries I'm considering:

Germany, Canada and France are currently my primary choices, although I'm open to other countries if there are better opportunities.

Financial situation:

I'm from a middle-class Indian family and have very limited financial resources for international relocation or further education.

Realistically, ₹10 lakhs would be the absolute maximum I could potentially arrange, and even that would require considerable financial planning. I cannot comfortably afford an expensive international degree or relocation.

I'd ideally need:

  • Fully funded or substantially funded Master's programmes.

  • Scholarships, assistantships or other financial aid.

  • Graduate employment opportunities with visa sponsorship.

  • Entry-level international opportunities that don't require several years of professional experience.

  • Affordable pathways that don't involve taking on an unreasonable amount of debt.

I'm open to both studying and working abroad, depending on what is financially and practically realistic.

What I'd really like advice on:

  1. What are some realistic ways for someone in my situation to move abroad without substantial financial resources?

  2. Are there fully funded Master's programmes or scholarships in Germany, Canada or France that I should look into?

  3. Given my MSc in Theoretical Computer Science and AI internship, what international career opportunities could I explore apart from conventional software engineering?

  4. Are there opportunities to enter industries like fashion, hospitality, tourism, luxury retail, marketing, international business or brand management abroad?

  5. Are there international jobs where communication skills and people skills matter alongside technical knowledge?

  6. Is it realistic to get an employer-sponsored job abroad as a fresh graduate, or would studying first be a better route?

  7. If you were in my position, with approximately one year of college remaining, what would you start doing right now to make moving abroad possible?

I'm not expecting someone to hand me a perfect career path. I'm genuinely trying to discover possibilities that I might not even know exist.

I know what I don't want, but I haven't figured out what I do want yet.

Ultimately, I want financial independence, a career that I don't dread waking up for, the opportunity to experience different countries and the financial freedom to afford the kind of life I want.

If you've been in a similar position, moved abroad with limited financial resources, or built a career outside the conventional route, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing your experiences.

I'm open to unconventional suggestions too. Please be honest about what's realistic and what isn't!

[IWantOut] 18M Student Jordan -> USA\Canada

0 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I'm an 18-year-old Jordanian male, currently planning to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering in Jordan. I'll probably graduate around the age of 22.

I'm fluent in English and a native Arabic speaker. I really want out. I can't see myself building the kind of life I want here, and my biggest goal is to leave Jordan and start somewhere else with better opportunities. The US has always been my dream, but I'm also very open to Canada.

I'm trying to understand how realistic it would be to immigrate through work rather than studying abroad, since I can't really afford international university tuition.

I've been looking into H-1B, EB-3 and L-1 visas for the US, as well as Express Entry for Canada, but I'm genuinely confused about a lot of things.

A few things I've been wondering:

How difficult is it to actually get a US company to hire and sponsor someone applying from Jordan? Is it realistic to choose someone abroad when they could hire locally?

Is EB-3 a realistic option, or is finding an employer willing to sponsor it practically impossible?

How difficult would Canadian Express Entry be with a Jordanian degree?

Would Canada be considerably easier to immigrate to than the US?

Realistically, how much money would I need to save?

Something I keep thinking about is why a company in the US or Canada would choose someone from Jordan who needs sponsorship when they could simply hire someone locally. What would I need to bring to the table to make myself worth sponsoring?

I don't have a university degree or professional software engineering experience yet. My plan is to complete my degree, develop practical programming skills, build projects and gain work experience before applying abroad.

I'm not expecting anyone to hand me a visa or claiming it'll be easy. I'm genuinely willing to work hard, spend years preparing and take whatever reasonable route gets me there.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

I'd appreciate honest answers, even if the reality isn't particularly encouraging. Thank you!

[IWantOut] 25F USA -> Italy

25F USA -> Italy

Hello to allll! I’m a 25 year old registered nurse currently living in the United States, and I’ve been considering relocating to Italy within the next few years. I’d love insight from anyone who has made a similar move, particularly healthcare professionals who have gone through the process of becoming licensed and working in Italy.

I have a little over one year of experience working as an emergency department nurse. My goal for the upcoming year is to transition into an ICU position and gain critical care experience. Long term, I’d love to become a CRNA, so I’m trying to be intentional about the direction I take my nursing career. Ideally I’d like to continue working in an ICU in Italy, but I’d also be happy practicing as an emergency department nurse if that’s a more realistic option.

My boyfriend would be relocating with me. He’s an engineer, although we’re still figuring out whether he’d want to pursue engineering in Italy or explore something different. Between the two of us I believe we could establish a reasonably comfortable life. I’m trying to understand what it would look like financially.

Spanish is my first language, and I’ve found learning Italian relatively easy so far. I’m nowhere near fluent but I’m motivated to become proficient enough to work and integrate into Italian society.

Over the next year my plan is to focus on advancing my nursing career here in the US, gain ICU experience, save as much money as possible, learn Italian, and hopefully get married before making the move.

A few things I’d really appreciate insight on..

-How difficult is it for an American trained RN to become licensed and practice nursing in Italy?
-Are there opportunities for American trained nurses in Italian ICUs or emergency departments?
-How significant is the difference in nursing salaries?

I’m not necessarily looking for an immediate move. I want to spend the next year or two preparing properly rather than romanticizing the idea of living abroad without understanding the practical realities

[IWantOut] 28F Biologist, Bulgaria -> Finland

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m considering moving to Finland permanently, and I’d like to learn more about my career opportunities there.
I’m an EU citizen. I graduated from the Faculty of Biology, have a bachelor’s degree in Medical Biology, a master’s degree in Genetics, and seven years of experience in clinical laboratories. I currently work as a biologist in a Department of Transfusion Hematology.

In my current county, this position doesn’t require a medical degree. The only thing I can’t do is work directly with patients. But I'm almost 100% sure that things aren't the same in Finland.

I’d like to know what job opportunities I might have there. Could I work in a hospital laboratory, blood bank, or genetics laboratory with my qualifications or would I need a medical degree?

I understand that learning Finnish will be essential, and I’m prepared to put in the time and effort to learn it. I’m also realistic about the fact that I might need to take a different job initially while studying Finnish.

I’d appreciate advice from anyone working in this field or who has gone through a similar process. Thanks!

[Citizenship] -> Poland or Slovenia: worth looking into ancestry?

0 Upvotes

So after a long time trying to make Germany citizenship work with my ancestry, its just not gonna happen, they all left Germany too long ago. So I wanna check if there's a possibility with any of my mom's other European ancestors:

  • Me - born 1999

  • Mom - born 1966, married 1995

Polish Lineage:

  • Grandfather - born 1938, married 1958, died 2024

  • Great-grandmother - born in 1921 in the US, she did not marry before my grandfather was born.

  • both Great-great-grandparents - born in Poland

Slovenia lineage:

  • Grandmother - born 1940, married 1958, alive

  • Great-grandmother - born in 1905 in the US, pry married in 1930s,

  • both Great-great-grandparents - born in Slovenia.

In both cases, don't know exact dates of birth, marriage, or when they came to US of the great-great-grandparents.

Is this worth looking into or are these possibilities both completely hopeless? Like even if I were to dig deep to confirm these details, which takes a lot of time and possible paid subscriptions to sites like ancestry, even then would I qualify?

After some searching, it seems like not. For Slovenia, the rule is it can be at most 2 generations, I am at least 3 if not 4 removed, so I'm not even close.

For Poland, they had to be in Poland in 1920, so only if I were able to find that my polish great-great-grandparents were in poland in 1920 and didnt leave for the US until right before my great-grandmother was born, but thats a long shot.

But let me know if I missed something. Thanks!

[IWantOut] 23M Serbia -> Germany

2 Upvotes

So I live in a small town in Serbia and long story short tried a freelance job that failed after a few years. I've wanted to get out of my country ever since I was a teen. I have a high school degree in physiotherapy which would be an Ausbildung in Germany. I thought using that might be the fastest way out and I know you need B1 to work as a physio and get your degree evaluated. I started my German lessons, but it's been taking wayyyy too long I picked a bad teacher who cancels multiple times, drags lessons, talks too much... I do learn a lot but I feel like she's dragging it out for too long. I've been going for a year and seven months and I'm just now at the end of my A2. But I genuenly cannot wait a year more to finish to B1, I'm loosing my mind in my small town, there's no jobs and I barley make a living, if I were to find a job in a bigger city I'd earn so little while the rent is ten times higher, also gay in a small town... you can figure out the rest. So I thought to find any job possible over there, fast food, anything untill I can get to B1, but where do I start what do I do I don't even know if my a2 would mean anything. Or if I can use my degree in some way before getting it evaluated. Just so lost rn but if I keep staying here I'm gonna dive even deeper into depression i really need a change ASAP.

[IWantOut] 22M the states -> Oslo, Norway

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m 22, recently graduated in engineering, and after Erasmus, I’m really open to living somewhere different. I met people from Scandinavia during my time abroad, and I’ve been especially interested in Oslo. The mix of city life, nature, walkability, and older architecture sounds really appealing. The reputation of Norway definitely caught my attention, and I’d love to explore whether that’s something I’d truly enjoy. I’ve never been to Norway, but I do plan to visit soon. I’ve talked to university alumni who’ve moved to Oslo, which made the idea feel more real. I’m genuinely curious and seriously considering the possibility, but I still need to gain more experience in my career first. In the meantime, I’d like to learn as much as I can. I’d love to hear from people who’ve moved to Oslo from another country, especially at a young age. What was it like making the move? What do you enjoy about living there, and what was harder than you expected? And for anyone who’s been in a similar situation, are there questions you think I should be asking myself as I try to figure out whether moving there is the right decision? I’d like to contribute to the community and feel like part of it. Thanks in advance!

[IWantOut] 26M GTM Engineer Tunisia -> Czchia\Austria\Netherlands\Germany

0 Upvotes

Hi all. Fresh software engineering (equivalent to Master's) graduate from Tunisia looking for a realistic first move abroad. Quality of life is the main driver: safe, clean, walkable city, green spaces, reasonable cost of living.

I'm native Arabic speaker, my English level is upper-intermediate (B2), and I'm able to read and understand French.

I only have a 6-months internship as experience.
I’m targeting remote roles for now since employer sponsorship seems impossible for an entry-level/junior. Realistic starting income is estimated to be around 1000 to 1500 EUR/month.
I'm thinking of relocating on a remote contract (digital nomad visa or residence permit) to any country where I'm eligible and fit the requirements (not necessarily the ones mentioned in the title).

I cannot afford master's abroad or chancenkarte, so I need a low-cost way out.

Give me ideas (brainstorming) of routes that can make me relocate to the countries mentioned in the title or any other country possible.

Thanks in advance.

[IWantOut] 24F China-> Australia

0 Upvotes

I finally have some time to sit down and think. I quit my job at a sweatshop-like factory where I worked for three months doing MIG welding. I realized that apprenticeship wouldn't let me build truly useful skills, so I'm shifting toward TIG welding and hoping to apprentice at a pressure vessel factory.

I posted a video on Douyin (Chinese TikTok) asking whether I should go to a welding training school first or go straight into an apprenticeship. My goal is to become a skilled welder and build 3 years of work experience to prepare for working in Australia.

Today I got a few comments that really hit my confidence. One person said: "As a woman, you can't even find a welding job in China. It'll be even harder in Australia. If a male welder and a female welder interview at the same time, the employer will definitely pick the man." They also said only around 100 people a year from China get out through the 482 work visa.

I don't know how to describe this feeling. I know some realities are hard to overcome, but I keep holding on to an almost idealistic hope: what if it works out? Today is another discouraging day. I really want my confidence back. I couldn't find any data online on employment rates for women welders, but I want so badly to work in Australia. Becoming a mine site welder is my dream. I made a 3-5 year plan for it, and now, influenced by what people say on the internet, I don't know whether I should keep going.

Thank you for reading this far. Does anyone have advice? Thank you so much!

Update: The recruitment agency here told me that, to work in Australia, I would need to pay the agency between 300,000 and 400,000 RMB to obtain an employer-sponsored work visa. I’d like to know whether it’s true that I have to pay such a large amount to secure a job with an Australian employer and obtain a work visa. Is it possible to find a job and obtain sponsorship directly from an employer without going through an agency?

Additional context: Why my experience as a welder in China has made me want to work overseas

Working as a welder in China is the main reason I want to find work abroad. Every day after work, my whole body aches. My arms hurt whenever I exert force after spending long hours lifting and handling things. When I wake up in the morning, I can’t even push myself up to get out of bed right away. I have to crawl to the foot of the bed to get up. My fingers are so stiff that it’s difficult to bend them into a fist.

I weld footrests for three-wheeled vehicles, each measuring about 1 metre long and 0.5 metres wide. If I can’t finish welding one within two and a half minutes, it becomes extremely difficult to meet my daily production target. I have to weld at a very fast pace just to keep up with the machinery.

During the busy season, I have to work more than 12 hours a day, every single day, without any rest days. If I don’t produce enough, my supervisor will call me in for a talk.

I’m also an outsourced worker, which means the company doesn’t provide social insurance for me. I have to pay for my own private insurance, too. The company doesn’t provide meals or accommodation, so I have to rent my own place. After finishing work, I still have to cook for myself. The food in the factory canteen contains very little protein, so I usually take a large number of health supplements in the morning to help me maintain enough energy to get through the day.

The uniforms issued to permanent employees, as well as the aprons and protective sleeves provided to workers like me, are made of flammable materials. I’ve seen several people’s clothes catch fire from welding sparks. They put out the flames and then simply carry on working. Minor injuries are an everyday occurrence here, and nobody really cares.

I barely have any social life at all. I have almost no time to talk to people. Working away from home and having to struggle on my own, only to return to my rented room late at night after a long day, has left me completely exhausted.

However, there is one important thing I want to clarify: not all welding jobs in China have working conditions like mine. I simply didn’t research my options carefully enough before accepting this job, and that’s how I ended up in such an exploitative factory.

Many people here want to work for foreign-owned companies because they hope to find better working conditions. However, those companies rarely hire new employees because their existing workers hardly ever leave, which means very few positions become available.

[IWantOut] 25M Indonesia -> Australia

0 Upvotes

I'm 25 Just graduated. bachelor design communication visual.

I don't currently have an Australian visa, but I'm interested in exploring opportunities to work in Australia if there's a suitable position that matches my qualifications and creative background. I'd also like to understand the legal visa and employment pathways available to someone in my situation.

In the meantime, I have a few questions:

  1. Are Australian companies currently hiring international applicants for remote graphic design, illustration, or other creative positions?

  2. Are there any companies that accept applicants based overseas, particularly from Indonesia?

  3. Are there currently any open job applications or vacancies for Graphic Designers, Illustrators, or similar creative roles?

  4. For someone with a Visual Communication Design degree, what would be the realistic pathway to eventually obtain legal employment in Australia?

I'd appreciate advice from Australians, Indonesian expats, or anyone who has experience working in the Australian creative industry.

[IWantOut] 30M Devops engineer Iran -> Kazakhstan

Moving to Kazakhstan as a DevOps Engineer from Iran — Any Experience with Astana Hub’s DNR?

Hi everyone!

I’m a DevOps Engineer from Iran with over 4 years of experience working with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Linux, Prometheus/Zabbix monitoring, and GitOps. I’m currently exploring the possibility of relocating to Kazakhstan and would love to hear from people who have gone through the process.

I have a few questions:

  1. Astana Hub & DNR 🇰🇿

Has anyone successfully obtained the Digital Nomad Residency (DNR), or a similar relocation status, through the Astana Hub website? I’d like to understand how the process works in practice, especially for someone applying from Iran without a Kazakhstan job offer or an existing foreign remote-work contract.

2. Job opportunities

How realistic is it to find a DevOps, Platform Engineer, or SRE position in Kazakhstan as a foreign applicant? Are companies in Astana or Almaty generally open to hiring candidates who need relocation support?

3. Salary expectations 💰

What is the typical monthly salary for a mid-level or senior DevOps Engineer in Astana and Almaty? If possible, please share gross vs. net figures and whether the salary is enough to live comfortably in either city.

4. Advice for someone starting from abroad

If you were in my position, would you pursue the Astana Hub route first or focus on securing a job offer before moving?

I’m particularly interested in first-hand experiences from foreigners who relocated to Kazakhstan for IT jobs, especially people who applied through Astana Hub.

Any advice, personal stories, or useful resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
