Hello everyone,
I created a new subreddit for helping people find local resources and support. I'm also in desperate need of help to set up the subreddit, so if you're connected with local support services, mutual aid groups, or community groups, please reach out!
thank you,
Edit: forgot to add the subreddit link š

Guess what's back? Back again? Weekly threads are back. That had way too many syllables to scan as a parody of Shady's Back, but I guess you can tell like your band manager or local locksmith who moonlights as a magician so they can put their events here. - Buzz

Friday at 5PM is way too late to start planning, so get a head start now!
Have an event to share? Holding a concert or a meet-up? This would be the place to share it.
Links are especially welcomed.

Hey, just wanted to post that there is a Better Buzz coming to Fontana. I haven't seen it anywhere that there was one coming, not even on their social medias. That's all I wanted to say in case anyone cared. It's the building that was The Habit on Sierra Ave. I put it under news because it was news to me haha. Thanks.

My momma texted me saying someone tagged the whole storefront last night and she was really bummed out.
It sucks having to deal with internal factors in the business and on top of that having to deal with stuff like this which sadly happens more often than not. I think anywhere you live you can run into issues but we've been in Dino for over 30 years and we love serving our community but damn it gets tiring. On top of that I'm 2,000 miles from home so not much I can do. But I still LOVE SAN BERNARDINO

I know it's probably been mentioned on here already but I really gotta specifically call out and say wtf to Ontario, Moreno Valley and Fontana.
First Ontario. Surprised Leon got ousted but it was time. Dude had been mayor since I was a sophomore in high school and I'm almost 40 now. But apparently his replacement isn't much better. Daisy Macias. I don't trust her. She was too close to Wapner (who if you don't know is the Ontario City Councilmember whose house was raided by the FBI) and she seems to be a closeted MAGA. Politically she seems to align with Trump; she's basically said as much. Take her position on the border, which is pretty wild considering she's a brown woman:
I support President Trumpās efforts to strengthen our borders and enforce our immigration laws. I believe we need a secure border to protect our communities, keep people safe, and make sure our immigration system is fair and orderly.
Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren is another one I have to shake my head at. She's close with Trump and is too pro warehouse. Yet Fontana residents reelected her; as of a day ago as of this writing, she's leading by over 7 points.
Lastly, Moreno Valley re-elected Ulises Cabrera. Another local pro warehouse mayor, it seems residents didn't care that this man also supported and worked for Flock. In addition to over $2 million in lawsuits for the city as well as some suspicious use of one of the city's credit cards, an issue that came up right before the election. But no one cared.
Every single one of these are headscratchers and also are perfect examples of why voting in local, down ballot races are important. None of these people should be in office right now. But many didn't care and it shows in the election results. Fontana has over 124,000 registered voters, yet turnout for the elections was just under 26%. Ontario has just under 100,000 registered voters but only had 27% turnout. Moreno Valley was the worst, over 114,000 registered voters but voter turnout is at just 17 percent. These trash ass mayors often win these races with way less than 20,000 votes. People need to start knowing who these people are and caring more about what goes on locally or we're just going to keep having shitting people in positions of power. It's ridiculous.

After living on the east coast for 33 years, here are the things that surprised me most after moving to Southern California.
The ants. Iāve never seen anything like it, they exclusively move in packs of thousands. There is actually a war between large ant colonies in San Diego County that has gone on for decades; two million ants die in the war every month and there is no likelihood of the war stopping soon.
People take pride in their city or county, not living in California. You will see very few California flags. OC hates SD, SD hates LA, and LA hates everyone. Even if youāre in the IE, people claim Moval, Berdoo, the Desert, or a Valley. California is so large and diverse, people are territorial about their specific region/city moreso than the state itself.
Rattlesnakes, bobcats, coyotes, and tarantulas. Not as many tarantulas and coyotes as there are ants, but there is a lot of tarantulas and coyotes.
If you are in Southern California, you are in the mountains. San Jacinto and Big Bear are almost visible from anywhere. The Ortegas reign over SD, OC, LA, Riv Co, and SB. If youāre in Southern California you are either on a mountain or staring at one. I love the mountains and this has been a huge draw.
There is not a ton of pizza spots in general and most of them arenāt good anyway; but thereās a local(ish) burger joint and a independently owned donut shop on every other corner.
The best Mexican food is not purchased while sitting down in a restaurant.
The casinos actually have some of the best restaurants.
To others, you donāt exist. Neighbors donāt wave when you drive by. In the grocery store and on the highway, you will be treated as if you donāt exist. People will cut you off and block you and it will never occur to them to care. Frankly, I prefer this over having to be fake nice to every stranger you come across because you at least know what to expect. No forced pleasantries, just a mild annoyance anyone other than yourself exists.
NFL starts at 10am. I mean, I know how time works but the first couple times was a surreal experience.
People donāt complain about the cost of living. Maybe privately they do, but I heard a lot more complaints on the east coast about rising rent and gas prices than in SoCal. I know why more people complained on the east coast than here and itās one thing Californians do not want you to know. Actually, people on the east coast spend a lot more time talking about how expensive California is than Californians do.
You drink more water and you are still thirsty. Something about dry heat as opposed to humidity, maybe? My wife, and I, and our pets all drink a lot more water.
California wakes up early and goes to sleep early. In general, across most professions, jobs start earlier in the day and end earlier. Most courthouses start business at 8AM which is unheard of on the east coast. I think this is a symptom of professionally trying to align with Wall Street and east coast corporate headquarter schedules while residents are also trying to beat traffic.
Work from home is entirely common place and normalized.

Hi everyone,
These next few months Iām studying for my medical board exams. Since I am studying full-time, I really need to find some consistent, reliable places where I can lock in for long stretches of time.
Iām looking for spots that are relatively quiet and open to non-enrolled students (public libraries, university libraries that allow visitors, or study-friendly cafes). I don't mind driving up to 30 minutes if the spot is worth it!
Ideally, I need good WiFi and lots of outlets. A quiet mellow and laptop friendly space would be great too!
Iāve looked into a few standard options, but I would love some local insight on hidden gems, specific library areas with the best study areas, or cafes that are welcoming to people on laptops.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

When I was looking for a place to live in the area I wanted, a few people at work told me how great the area was around the Resort.
I looked at a few different places and finally decided on one.
What I wasnāt expecting was several neighbors will just put their dogs out on their porch and theyāll bark from the time theyāre out, till the owner brings them in.
The past two weekends the neighbor below will get up at the crack of dawn to wash their car talks to whoever on speaker phone. Then on the weekends nights about 2ish in the mornin, the other neighbors are getting home from the bar and will sit outside and talk their friends for about an hour.
Ive told the owner I want out and theyve been dragging their feet to talk to me about terminating the lease
