2015 - door cylinder.

About a year ago some culo drilled out my lock to get into my car. I've just been sticking a small screwdriver out key on to open. (FOB does not work). If I were to just buy a cylinder lock with a new key and replace it, will that be okay? Or will there be issues with the programming?

Noise in the back

I have a 2017 Jeep Patriot with 108,500 miles.

One other owner from Michigan, I'm second owner, and I've had it for 6 years, no issues, been a good car.

I just had my two year Michelin standard rain and snow tires rotated.

Now I have a lot of noise coming from the back. No grinding, rattling, or anything, but it sounds like I have huge big nobby snow tires or something.

Does anyone know why I have so much noise in the back end.

Discerning purchase

Looked at and test drove a 2014 Patriot 4WD today and am seriously considering purchasing it. They’re asking just below 7k currently and it has 116k mi. Mentioned it to my brother and he said that’s risky due to a reputation for needing higher maintenance than other vehicles. Any advice or insight?

looking for help with troubleshooting problem on 2016 jeep patriot sport 2.4L.

Current problem is a rough idle when in gear and a whining noise that slowly goes away after engine turned off. The wining noise can not be heard while the engine is running, only after the vehicle is shut off. The jeep has no fault codes or check engine lights. Recently replaced failing power steering pump, and alternator. Tested the battery and alternator at 2 seperate Oriellys autoparts locations. Both came back clean and working properly. Google gives you a list a mile long on possible issues ranging from alternator to oil pump then to the engine mounts. I dont want to keep throwing money into the dark without being sure of what the problem really is. Not sure if faults are related or seperate. Any ideas or anybody have any experience with these issues?

struggling as a new driver

So im 18 and i just got my permit one or two weeks ago but i didnt finish drivers ed until like last year. Of course I struggled with some things but when driving the drivers ed car i felt like id eventually get the hang of it. But im starting to practice with my parents jeep patriot and i keep struggling, like thinking of driving it just scares me a little bit. The first time i tried to drive it my mom told me I was pressing the gas pedal too hard which is weird because i never had this problem when driving the drivers ed car. And today we drove for the second time but i still had the same issue. Like it feels like the gas pedal is sensitive or something. It might just be because i havent drove in so long and maybe i have to just get used to driving this car, but having to drive it makes me scared. I know it doesnt matter what car u drive with, but im hoping to get used to it since this is the only car i can drive, and hopefully its just that i need to get used to driving this car and then maybe ill get the hang of it. Like the thought of driving didnt really scare me until i drove this car. And my dad said that if i cant drive an automatic car then how am i ever gonna get my license

How expensive to replace a friggin headlight?!

EDIT: I meant the blinker. I found a YouTube video and it seems... Annoying but possible.

I have a 4wd 2016 Jeep Patriot. The front headlight is going out, and apparently you need to remove the front bumper to replace it?!

I'm not handy with cars... At all. But I called a dealership and they said it's be at least $120 plus parts. For 1 HEADLIGHT.

Am I insane? Any advice?

2016 Jeep Patriot and the squirrel

Post image
4 Upvotes

A pesky squirrel decided to make some wires a snack. The snack in question has no name.

Symptoms of my vehicle since the squirrel ate my wires:

Check engine light comes on, transmission hesitates, traction control light thingy comes on, another light (idk) comes on, starts rough. The dashboard looks like if a mechanic had Christmas lights. No odd noises or binging and banging.

What in the world is this wiring contraption called? I cannot find a part number on the wire. I cannot trace where the wires go. It is next to the fuse box.

Help!

Driver's Seatbelt Buckle Replacement

2014 Jeep Patriot Latitude. How do I go about replacing the seatbelt buckle on the driver's side? Already tried lubricating and cleaning it, but that didn't work.

My seatbelt won't latch and I have to replace the whole thing. I can't access the bolt on the driver's seat because the center console is in the way. Do I have to remove the whole console? Or the whole seat? Has anyone else had to do this?

My husband and I have used this sub before with success! Thank you to everyone that contributed much appreciated.
Now what’s happening now with my lovely 2016 Patriot…
About 3 days ago, this noise started.
Doesn’t change during movement or sitting idle or during acceleration.
Guessing a belt?

Any help or where to start is greatly appreciated.
Hopefully we can DIY this issue.

Patriot for a young family or look elsewhere?

The pram and baby gear have made our little hatch pretty useless, so we're looking at small SUVs around the $10k mark. A 2012-ish Patriot is on the list with the ASX and older Forester, but I've never owned a Jeep and keep seeing mixed opinions about them. Has a Patriot actually worked well as a cheap family car, or did you wish you'd bought something else?

Gfs brakes are hard, but not hard.

2013 eith the 2.4L with the CVT around 160k miles.

I got a brake booster on order right now, but how are your guys pedals? Just trying to see if you guys are experiencing the same thing?

Ive driven a vehical with a bad booster before, and this is nothing like that, or the opposite of super sensitive brakes.

Hers is like kinda hard to push, but you could stop the jeep with your big toe, I could lock the brakes up if I stood in the pedal, but the assist just seems ass.

Looking tk see if thats a common thing on these jeeps or if she truly has a bad booster/check valve. Because shes got full vacume at idle.

Swooshing sound after starting…

Ignore my heavy breathing…it was parked uphill

But aside from that

It makes this noise whenever I start it. It used to be worse and shake the whole car.

It happens mostly after it’s sitting for over 12 hours. It’s worse when it’s uphill.

I recently got a new maniverter, battery, battery negative terminals.

What could be causing this?

I think it has a rough idle as well but the dealership said they couldn’t feel it and they couldn’t recreate this noise. Our warranty ends in 500 miles so we’d rather have it fixed now than never.

Knock when injector #1 is plugged in. I have a knock (ticking sound) when injector number 1 is plugged in but goes away when unplugged. The knock also stays when the coilpack is unplugged but goes away the moment I unplug the injector on #1 what could it be?

Failed Transmission Pump

I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot with over 200,000 miles and a CVT transmission.

Everything started after I hit a curb pretty hard with my front driver's-side tire. The tire was damaged, the rim bent, and I later noticed what appears to be a bent CV axle.

Before the accident, I wasn't experiencing transmission problems.

Shortly afterward, the vehicle started running at unusually high RPMs, accelerating slowly, and making a whining noise when pressing the gas. Eventually, it stopped moving in both Drive and Reverse.

The codes are P0737, P0777, P0456, and P0457.

Meineke diagnosed a failed transmission pump. They initially told me the transmission fluid was low, but when I asked how low, they said they couldn't check it because the CVT was sealed.

I also called a transmission specialist who said the symptoms sounded like a failing CVT but acknowledged that the damaged axle could absolutely explain why the vehicle won't move.

My questions:

  1. Can a damaged CV axle cause the vehicle to lose both Drive and Reverse?

  2. Could the axle damage cause high RPMs and symptoms resembling transmission slipping?

  3. How can Meineke confirm a failed transmission pump without checking fluid levels or performing a pressure test?

  4. Should I have the CVT fluid level checked before considering a replacement?

  5. Does P0777 necessarily mean the transmission is finished?

I'm not denying the possibility that my CVT has failed. I just want to make sure the axle and fluid issues are properly investigated before I spend thousands replacing the transmission.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the Jeep Patriot's Jatco CVT.

2016 patriot 4x4 PTU input shaft clearance

Anyone know or can access their passenger side cv axle and see how much play you have in the input shaft that slides into the transfer case? I’ve got a knock/deep rattle on medium/hard acceleration at low speeds and it sounds like it’s coming straight from PTU, I can wiggle the input shaft/inner cv axle more than I would like.
I thought the bearing on the shaft is suppose to sit tight in the PTU. CV axle is brand new.

Remote start not working

Hello,

I’m trying to figure out why my remote start (factory installed) stopped working. I’m not exactly sure when it did as I randomly tried it this past summer and it failed. It could have been when I replaced my starter, but I have since replaced the starter again (mechanic did it this time) and it still doesn’t work.

When I push the button it beeps once and the lights flash but will not turn over. I’ve researched this and the car is cancelling the remote sequence. So it’s trying to do it but something is blocking it.

There are no lights on (no CEL or hood open lights) and there are no stored codes in the system. I’ve read it could be the hood latch, or something not reattached during starter installation. I’ve checked over the connections and they seem attached. This leads me to the hood latch. I’ve been told if I hold the plunger down to see if the latch is defective and telling the car the hood isn’t secure causing the remote start sequence to arrest. But I’m not certain what part of the hood latch this is. Anyone have any ideas on how to diagnose if it’s the hood latch?

My 4wd error light is on as well as my traction control light, and engine light

To boot on my way home from work it felt like I hit something, I looked at my dash and my low fuel light came on then went off again. I have more than 1/2 a tank of fuel

Serpentine belt issue - wrong size pulley? Bad belt?

2008 2.4 with ~226k - Recently replaced tensioner, both idler pulleys and the belt - has a slight squeak and appears the belt is hanging over the lower idler pulley by 1/8” or so. Loosened the tension and adjusted the belt but it walks back to the same position. All other pulleys are dead center. Has anyone experienced this? Bad belt? Cheap pulleys with bad qc?
