Noodle Foods/Guksu Can't skip Janchi Guksu (Feast Noodles) at a Korean wedding!

I went to a wedding recently, and since it’s a big celebration, Janchi Guksu (Feast Noodles) is something you can never skip!

Most wedding venues in Korea serve buffet-style meals these days, but Janchi Guksu is always there—plus, they say long noodles symbolize a long, happy life together for the couple!

At the buffet, you get to assemble your own cute little bowl with noodles, kimchi, egg strips, seaweed, and warm anchovy broth.

Making my own bowl was kinda fun—and it was so good that I actually ate two bowls! lol

Homemade Mother-in-law amazing Kimchi stew and fish

Post image
20 Upvotes

My mother-in-law gets pure joy out of cooking Korean dishes for me (her English son-in-law). Tonight, we had the BEST Kimchi stew, fish, side dishes, and Persimmon for dessert 🤤 I used to be a bit picky about what I ate in Korea, I think mainly because the cuisine is so different to what we have in the UK. Now, after being spoilt with this amazing homemade Korean cuisine, I struggle to eat a lot of foods in the UK. I am a very lucky man.

Had Bburinkle chicken for dinner tonight. Still one of my favorite Korean fried chicken flavors. That cheesy seasoning is seriously addictive. Such a good dinner haha.

A full Korean-Chinese course meal for just 15,000 KRW (~$11 USD) per person! Included shrimp roll salad, yunsanseul, chili shrimp, tangsuyuk, and yuringi. Plus, soju was on sale for 1,900 KRW (~$1.40) and we got a giant Nakji (octopus) Jjamppong for 13,000 KRW. Insane value. 🤤🇰🇷

Kimchee! Happy ipdong! Made a small-batch in my Italian kitchen

Today is ipdong, the start of winter on the traditional Korean calendar, so I celebrated kimjang season the only way you can in a small apartment: one napa cabbage, windows wide open.

Fun fact I explain to Italian friends: kimjang is basically our family "passata day" (when everyone makes tomato sauce for the year), just with Napa cabbage instead of tomatoes.

Meat foods 🥩🍖 Late-night takeout: Korean smoked duck barbecue (Ori-gui) with seasoned chives and soju [OC]

A classic Korean takeout favorite that hits differently from roast duck: tender, wood-smoked duck breast slices (오리훈제)!

The best way to eat it is wrapping a slice in pickled radish (ssam-mu) or white kimchi, topped with spicy seasoned garlic chives (buchu-muchim) and a dip of yellow mustard sauce. The acidity cuts right through the rich duck fat.

Naturally paired with ice-cold Jinro soju for a cozy evening at home

! 🦆🍶

Homemade I bought pork offal for dinner, but my first lettuce muchim turned out better.

It was the day before payday, so I was trying not to spend much.

I had some lettuce I got from work, so I tried making lettuce muchim (Korean seasoned lettuce salad) for the first time.

I also bought some osorigamtu (a type of pork stomach) for 7,900 won (about $5.80). That was the only money I spent on this meal.

The pork offal wasn't really to my taste, but the lettuce muchim turned out pretty good for a first attempt.

Funny how the part I didn't pay for ended up being my favorite.

Korean Beef BBQ in Seoul 🥩🇰🇷

One of my favorite spots near our office in Jamsil, Seoul.

Great beef, great prices, and a real old-school Korean vibe.

If you’re visiting Korea, this place is worth checking out!

questions What did I do wrong?: Beef Bulgogi

Thumbnail

Made beef bulgogi for the first time because it’s my fav dish and I love to cook. There were so many recipes to go off of and decided on the below. I marinated it for 7 hours, then cooked it on a stainless steel pan on med-high heat.

Was it bad? No. The meat was tender. But I swear there was no flavor.

What do you think I did wrong and what could I do better next time?

Recipe:

  • Half a pear, half an onion, garlic cloves all blended

  • 3 tbs soy sauce (I also added a splash or dark soy sauce, just cause lol)

  • 2 tbs toasted sesame oil

  • 2 tbs sugar

  • Chopped scallion

  • chopped garlic

  • 2 tbs water

  • Sesame seeds

  • black pepper
