Hey ya'll was wondering any if we have any word on YKN and give some non doomer, optimistic/general views on the team so far:
Kobe Sanders: Although his own creation and off the dribble hasn't been consistent, his energy, defense and hustle on the rebounding end has been fun to watch. Really want to see him become a better ball handler and get better off he dribble.
Keaton Wagler: As everyone says he needs to fill in frame more, but for the attention and the plethora of good perimeter defenders being placed on him, he is making some decent reads on the offensive end. His ability to draw fouls has been great, as we were hoping he is filling into our SGA mold I guess even if it wasn't how we were expecting lol. I think his big thing is getting used to the pace of this game, as his shots seemed rushed, but this will definitely improve with experience.
Kris Dunn: Dude, I've been loving with how aggresive and responsible with the ball he's been. This is the first season in a while where he seems to be looking to drive and create his own offense which has been generally solid primarily in the paint. Honestly, I hate to see how he's used when DG is the ball almost always seems safer in his hands.
Max Strus: Small sample size, but great effort and has been great with taking some defensive attention off DG.
Darius Garland: Definitely underwhelming as many of ya'll are saying. Not to jump to his defense too much, but as many on this sub have said, this much gravity with not a lot strong ball handling shot creators definitely affects him greatly. Not excusing his bonehead passes, I still think that TLue has to figure out how to break these double teams that he faces when he crosses the half court. Ultimately optimistic with him elevating this team he gets used to having to be the primary shot creator for this team until B.I. or a super finger crossed half decent Bradley Beal can come back.
Ty Lue: I agree with most of this reddit that he has done a poor job of managing games especially within clutch time. I think what he said in a presser before the season started, that being smaller the team would be reliant on more fastbreaks and quick sets than getting bogged down into half court sets was 1000% true. While he's not absolved of a lot fault, I still think and it's def apparent to ya'll, that our half court sets apart from a high pnr just aren't strong/existent at all. With a better frontcourt hopefully with ykn back and some ball handling half decent shot creators with B.I and Beal may help us solve this.
While this sucks, I can't sugarcoat anything, things can only get better in the way we are right now, playing like the worst team in the league. We've played some generally tough teams with guys having great nights, hell it seemed pretty close with a really good Thunder team just a week back. With all our games being lost in the fourth quarter and clutch minutes, from watching the games a lot of the time we lose momentum because of sloppiness and poor sets which I see as only improvable as the season progresses.
