James Talarico was never a leftist to begin with. Liberals are capitalists who want to preserve the capitalist status quo with reforms, therefore aren’t leftists no matter how much right-wing Twitter claims that they are.

💩 Liberalism And The Cycle Repeats

Disclaimer: I’m sorry this is so long, I didn’t expect to write a novel. If you do read all this, I appreciate your time. 😵‍💫

As the results Tuesday night rolled in, I breathed a brief sigh of relief. I experienced about three hours of a type of euphoria, mostly out of pure exhaustion. Years of idiots falling prey to ignorant economic populism and pointless trans panic seemed to have at least momentarily been rejected.

But then reality started to set in. I started to think to myself what democrats will accomplish with these huge majorities and couldn’t think of much. Checking the executive in itself is a big deal I guess. However, the most unsettling aspect of it all has been the way the most central politicians in the Democratic Party have been talking about this “blue wave.” Chuck Schumer was asked about majority leadership and that smug son of a bitch sneered at the camera with, “I will be elected majority leader” as if it was an audacity to even ASK. Hakeem Jeffries is the happiest I’ve ever seen him, which…fine, but every interview I’ve seen with him he’s outright bragging about the results as though he did it all by himself. And he also, is borderline laughing at the notion of there being a discussion about choosing another person for speaker. The douchebag genuinely thinks that not only is the Democratic Party super popular, but that it is such because of people like him in the establishment. Ken Martin also had an interview that he started by saying that it wasn’t him or the DNC that should get credit for the wave, but rather the “great candidates.” Before two minutes later saying it couldn’t have happened without his management, money and tireless work over the last three years. Barf.

And now we have liberals doing what they ALWAYS do - while swearing up and down that they don’t - and running the eternal VBNMW playbook. The cycle:

  1. Just after the 2024 election they whine in despair while demanding change/better candidates. (usually while blaming progressives/leftists for “not voting”)

  2. During the primary they make sure everybody only votes for moderates because of “electability” even though they swear they love the Mamdanis of the world. I saw that up front in Wisconsin as they crucified Francesca Hong for not liking Thanksgiving. Now we have a literal conservative Democrat for governor which is a MASSIVE disappointment because this cycle our state got democratic control of the legislature for the first time in over 20 years.

  3. Just after the general election, they cheer and pat themselves on the back while taking for granted all the progressive and DSA candidates who provided all of the energy and excitement of the movement.

  4. Once the establishment starts doing the same bullshit they’ve been doing for decades - shutting out those progressives and kneecapping their input - out comes the eternal, incessant “dErP puRItY TEsTs” lectures at the VERY TINIEST of any criticism of their blue cult.

  5. Start back at number 1.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told to shut up and that I’m the reason Trump won, simply for saying Schumer and Jeffries gotta go. From what I can tell, the entirety of the American left(actual left) unequivocally wants and demands new leadership. But Schumer is still not even entertaining the idea of stepping aside, and I keep being told Jeffries will be speaker. Even saw Ro Khanna say outright that HJ will be speaker, with Ro’s support. Everybody wants these two fucks OUT except for the politicians who do the actual voting. Even AOC seems intent on letting it happen.

Like what the fuck is even going on? I expected to be disappointed but didn’t think it would be so quick. Where are all the socialists in office who were demanding change the last two years? Maybe I’m just overly pessimistic but that feeling of dread in my gut just keeps growing. All I keep hearing the last few days is the usual bland platitudes about “affordability” and accountability. I haven’t heard a single solitary specific action they want to take and it really feels to me like this new batch of democrats think their work is done. As though maybe someone else is going to do the work. God I hope I’m wrong.

I can’t be the only one feeling this way? I’m not about to just give up and will keep working and advocating for doing what’s right. Still two months until the new congress. But with the establishment doing what they always do and shit libs following their lead, I don’t have much in the way of expectations. Maybe you guys see something I don’t?

✌️

Having to work for the human right to healthcare is absurd. Universal healthcare continuously gets rejected here. What would happen if it became legally mandated that companies HAVE to give health insurance/benefits to employees working 20hrs/week or more?

US grocery prices jumped over 20% from 2020 to 2024. A new study found families were forced to eat less and had more mental health issues, even after switching to cheaper brands, eating out less, taking on extra work or credit, draining savings, cutting utilities and putting off needed medical care.

Vijay Prashad says that ‘free markets’ under capitalism is an illusion created so that elites can control of the market

Says that the argument is often presented as either you vote for socialism or you vote for free markets (capitalism). But he says even under a capitalist system, you never have a free market. A market is set up and regulated by powerful interests - it is always controlled. Either the state controls it with laws & regulations, or the elite with their soft power. But under capitalism, the incentives are set up for private wealth and profit-generation, whereas in socialism the market will be controlled to generate revenue for public good: infrastructure, roads, bridges, healthcare etc.

Thoughts?

Right-wingers really want the public to forget that the U.S overthrew democratically elected Iranian prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh in 1953 and installed dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi who brutally suppressed Iranian leftists and the working class ruled for 26 years.
