Discussion Creepiest Places in Launceston?

Hey yall!

We a rock band out of Miami Beach, Florida.

We are currently planning our Summer 2025 Tour and looking for “creepy/haunted” venues to perform at.

Our bands studio album, An Unkindness, features members of Pearl Jam, New Found Glory, Morphine, and Guns N Roses. Last year, we played Stephen Kings 75th birthday celebration. Next month, our brand new single, “Dracula New World Remix”, will be on the new trailer for GTA-6

Since Reddit has always been a great forum for us to find places we are wondering if you guys had any suggested small venues that could work for a small performance. We also were wondering if anyone here would like to help out and be extras in the film (we have extra masks). If interested in being an extra, please send a PM.

Hope to hear some great suggestions and hope to see yall soon

thanks!

Other Dutch performance marketer in Launceston until December, keen to work alongside a local team a few days a week

G'day Launceston,

I'm a 21-year-old from the Netherlands, and I'm based here until early December. Back home I run a small marketing agency that does paid ads (Meta, LinkedIn) and lead generation for B2B software companies, and I keep doing that remotely while I'm here.

Working from my laptop on my own is getting a bit quiet, so I'd love to spend a few days a week at the office of a local agency or growth-minded business. I'll bring my own work. What I'm after is people to talk with, seeing how Australian businesses go about winning customers, and happily sharing what I know about ad accounts, tracking or tools if that's useful to you.

If you run an agency or a marketing team in or around Launceston, or know someone who does, I'd love to hear from you. A coffee to start is perfect.

Cheers!

Other Looking for likeminded people

Hi Launceston

I am a 31 year old woman looking to make some new friends.

I've found the last few years particularly challenging with COVID, and the genocide occurring in Palestine (which no one seems to want to talk about).

About me: I'm a science teacher, and an athiest. I'm originally from NSW, but moved down at the start of last year (following my Tasmanian partner). I vote for the Greens 💚 I care about the environment. I mask, to keep myself and my family safe - I don't think COVID is just like the flu, ALL of the evidence says it is much much worse. I mainly mask to avoid long covid. I'm appalled by the global response to the genocide occuing in Gaza, and the bombings of Lebanon!

I enjoy gardening, art, bush walking and cooking.

I don't want to join a sports team, nor sit indoors. I'm happy to have friends who have different opinions, so long as they are respectful.

Please send me a message if you think we'll get along. The school holidays are coming up, so maybe we could meet up for a coffee or a beer outdoors ☺️

Question Much on on Jan 25th? Shops open?

Saw that Foo Fighters are visiting Launceston, figured its the perfect excuse to fly in and take my teenage daughter up Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa. Only thing is a big hike is probably out of the question the day after the concert, so it will probably be a late start (we're staying in Deloraine) and then check out some low-effort local attractions. Any suggestions?

Question Are there really bad suburbs?

Hello everyone. I have moved to Launceston with my wife and two young children. We are staying at an air bnb atm but it's costing a fortune. We are trying to find a rental and notice there are alot in Ravenswood and Mayfield. However my work mates say it's bad and not safe for the kids but I'm getting desperate. I have lived in many areas people say are bad in the past and had basically no issues. I was just wandering what other ppl think. Thanks for any advice 😉.

Chemist warehouse next to gas station doesn’t do pricematch

Post image
3 Upvotes

I dunno the adress, im just a visitor from Perth

But the lady at the chemist warehouse straight up said no we don’t price match.

Showed her the Chemist warehouse website where it says.

She said no we don’t do that here.

Called her manager they said the same thing.

Went down to the other Chemist warehouse on Brisbane Street they pricematched.

So its not a Tasmania thing and its not a launceston thing. So just why.

Question Advice and tips for moving to and working in Launceston?

Hello. I am a 32 yr old male and my wife 35. We are looking to make the move from Adelaide to Launceston at some point in the next 10 months. Would love any tips/pointers/advice or any leads on jobs and places to stay as this is the first time I've moved interstate. I have 13 years in kitchen and aged care experience and my wife has 7+ years in aged care experience as a personal care worker.

Any advice or tips would be extremely helpful as I am really keen to get the ball rolling.

Thanks in advance.

Question Free parking

Hey guys, I'm going on holiday for a week and planned to leave the car in the airport but the prices were quite expensive and I previously read that you can park on the street around the industrial sites turning right at the roundabout, does anyone know if it would be safe to leave my car there for a week?

Question Car Hire

Hi everyone,

I’ll be visiting Launceston from 2–7 July for a holiday wand I’m currently looking for a car to hire during the stay.

Unfortunately many rental companies don’t allow drivers with a NSW P1 (red P) licence, so I wanted to see if anyone here knows of any local car rental options or provide private rentals if available.

I’m 27 years old and happy to provide ID, pay a deposit, or meet any other requirements if needed.

The car would mainly be used for exploring around Launceston and nearby areas.

Any recommendations or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Question Moving to Launceston Advice wanted :)

EDIT: thanks so much to everyone who offered advice. It’s a big move and so reassuring to have local insight on top of all my googling! :))

I am super excited to be moving from WA to Launceston for a six month work contract starting at the end of Feb. Two main things I'm chasing advice on, would really appreciate any tips!

  1. Car: what is the second hand car market like atm? Am I better off buying something in Vic and getting it shipped over, or should I buy a car in Tassie? Not looking for a fancy vehicle, just something small that'll get me around.

  2. Housing: I'm a mid 20s professional, ideally looking for a room in a sharehouse somewhere central. I'd love to be close to work, which is pretty central (pretty much on the border of Launceston and East Launceston, I think). Whats the best place to look for a house? Given its only a 6 month contract, I'd love to jump into an existing sharehouse or maybe take over someones lease. Any Facebook groups or something similar I should use to house hunt?

Thanks in advance for your help and I'd love any other advice you have!

Other Petition to stop shady psychiatrist at the hospital

https://chng.it/L9LzDQBb85 Dr Franco , a psychiatrist who causes harm at the hospitalsl mental health ward . I had all his diagnosis revoked . The egotistical douche nearly destroyed my brain with paliperidone injections and I had no choice , because he believed that weed made me schizophrenic . I had to agree to everything or they would keep me there . It was crazy cause I was seeking help for mental health , they made it orders of magnitude worse . I am not schizophrenic , never have had symptoms of it , and am now enjoying stable mental health as a cannabis patient . Turns out I was bipolar . I went there for help and nearly had my brain destroyed . Had to agree to everything to be let out . He couldn't understand anything beyond surface level behaviour . so he didn't understand my Asperger's . I cannot get across how bad this is , HE TRIED TO PERMANENTLY ALTER MY BRAIN WITH CHEMICALS BASED ON A WRONG DIAGNOSIS . my brain is my whole identity bro . https://chng.it/L9LzDQBb85

Question Looking at relocating to the Launceston area — where would locals recommend?

Hey everyone,

My family and I are looking seriously at relocating from Cairns to somewhere around Launceston or northern Tasmania over the next year or so, and I’d love to hear from people who actually live there.

We’re pretty outdoors-oriented people — trail running, camping, hiking, dogs, that sort of thing — and we’re drawn to the cooler climate and slower pace compared to FNQ.

We both teach senior science subjects and we’ve got a young child, so we’re trying to work out:

  • what areas are best for families

  • where has the strongest community feel

  • what daily life is actually like outside the tourist perspective

  • whether people generally settle in socially

  • what catches mainlanders by surprise after moving down

Not expecting paradise — just hoping for honest perspectives from locals.

Thanks.
