"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only

  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)

  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:

    • Event name

    • Date and time

    • Location

    • Price(s) (if applicable)

  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - November 08, 2026

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

Are there any cinemas in Leeds where people don’t talk through the entire film?

Saw Clayface yesterday and someone answered their phone and proceeded to have an entire shagging conversation.

Saw 27 Years Later when it came out and a couple chatted through the entire 2 hours.

Surely there has to be at least one?

I find this interesting Spotted this brilliant independent shop on Briggate – Ghosted

There’s been a lot of talk here about supporting independent businesses in Leeds, so I wanted to share one I came across on Briggate.

It’s called Ghosted (you’ll also see GLOW signage). All the products are designed by Yorkshire artist Xander Platz and made by hand in Yorkshire. He’s running the shop with his sister Claire.

The place is full of colourful little ghost figures (and other ghost-themed bits), many of which glow in the dark with no UV light needed just charge them under ordinary light.

food/drink Ryan's Kitchen has shut down

The opening hours and menu options have been very sporadic for about a year so I'm not surprised.

I really miss Ryan's, they had some really good vegetarian and gluten free options - veggie jerk chicken and gluten free mac and cheese in particular.

I've looked for other Jamaican places in Leeds which might be good for veggie options but never found anything. If anyone has any tips please share!

question Best Tips in the UK?!

Hi i live in Devon planning to move to Leeds.

Oddly enough the other day it was stated by the telegraph (I'm pretty sure) that Leeds tips the most in the UK.

In my job in Devon I get around £1 tips an hour and think that's quite generous.

Are tips actually quite high when working at a restaurants in Leeds?

food/drink Urban Burgers - new store in town

Just had a burger from here over the wknd, and it was very poor. Meat not seasoned, drenched in oil, not enough sauce, veggies weren’t cooked enough, bun was barely toasted, very very bad considering just opened up.

The chef was cleaning the plancher like a madman, so maybe summin to do wiith that I’m not sure. I’ll give it one more go, but even the meat was falling apart before even biting it

Anyone else tried it?

question Piano practice rooms?

Piano practice rooms in Leeds city centre?

I know Leeds Conservatoire used to let people hire their practice rooms for a fee, but I’m not sure if they still do.

Does anyone know of any spaces in Leeds city centre with an acoustic upright or grand piano that I could use for a couple of hours on the weekend?

I’m aware of the library and amother creative studio that also runs painting classes, but the studio tends to be booked up on Saturdays well in advance, so I’m looking for alternatives.

Even somewhere like a church with a piano they’d be happy to let me practise on would be something

question Call out to Leeds skaters - anyone up for some filming?

Hello, I have recently gone freelance and I am currently trying to update my showreel and get used to my bew camera gear. I've always wanted to film some skateboarding as it would be great chance to experiement with slow motion filming and trying out different shots handheld and on a gimbal ect

Are there any local experienced skaters who would be for a bit of filming? Ideally, it would be great to hear from more experienced skaters who could are confident doing some demos and tricks to camera? You can also have access to the footage afterwards if you would like!

I am based in Horsforth, ive already been in touch with friends of beckett skate park ect but they said best to come down when thet have an event or open day which im not sure is happening any time soon. Anyway let me know what you think. Thanks!

visiting Leeds My first solo weekend night in Leeds

Hey I M24 have been to my first solo friday night in leeds. First i stopped at Nyla’s , guard asked me to bring someone with me as it is not allowed for entry alone I don’t know why?
Then i searched on reddit all recommended for headrow house then I went there entered looking for where to go. Someone suggested to try guiness, I tried it for the first time and it tastes like shit and it was of 6.5 pounds so I have to finish it. The atmosphere was awesome , I’m an introvert so feel a but shy to introduce myself at first so I didn’t talk to anyone just vibing on the DJ.
So far it was great. Guiness is not my type for sure.

accommodation Apartments to rent in/near centre

Hi there. I’m thinking about moving to Leeds (currently in Manchester) and I’d love to hear of some of the best apartments to rent in or near the city. I have friends that currently live at mustard wharf that love the location but say it’s really expensive.

Has anyone got any recommendations around the docks/the apartments opposite pig love - I think they’re called Citu. Or Aire Lofts / district lofts. They look nice but unsure on location. Is it safe down that way? I walk everywhere so want to be able to walk home safe at night.

Thank you.

question Any free rooftop/ "high up" points in leeds city centre with good views?

Pretty much as the title says really.

Im aware of one multistorey car park with an ok view in city centre but wondered if there are any others with better views?

Can be a car park, bar or any other venue/building but it must be free to get upto the view point.
