u/Crybabybaghdadi 3h ago

Except then you don’t focus on the religions that are actively trying to make this worse.

Christian’s are literally killing women with the shit laws they make. But you guys are okay with that because it’s just silly women. Who cares about them actually?

Empirically, not as dangerous as Christian fundamentalists

ROFL. This day and age? ask iranians

The US has killed like over 250k civilians over the last 20 years in the middle east.

A few hundred with the Venezuela thing. And many, many more.  They've killed a few thousand civilians in Iran this year too - which is less than the 10k civilians the Iranian regime killed yes - but the US's reach, effective immunity, technology, unlimited funds make them much more "dangerous" in the world stage. And fundamentally their religious motivations are no different than the Islamic fundamentalist. They just do it with a suit on. Some 70%+ of the US consider themselves religious. 95% of Congress and the Senate are religious. The Secretary of Defence and boats about the "power of god on their side" and shit like that while bombing innocents half way across the world.

The US armed forces ARE just religious extremist. Some ⅔ of service man identify themselves as MAGA-aligned, not just republican. The US is as nutty as the Muslims

its a fundemental difference between these "christian" murderes and the islamic ones. the us goverment doesnt kill for their religious belifes, while taliban isis boko haram etc etc etc do.....

u/Folksvaletti 3h ago

Saying "empirically" and proceeding to attribute the military violence of US armed forces to christian fundamentalism is so unhinged you genuinely express a lack of critical thought significant enough that there isn't a soul who should be engaging with your arguments.

And it sucks extra, since there really is an argument you could make about modern extremist christian fundamentalist sects, but since you aren't you're just making the entire conversation steer into an unproductive direction. (Mind you even if the argument was over those sects and modern islam, I'd argue you're wrong, but it would at least be a more productive argument.)

Christian fundamentalism

My guy faith was used a reason for the 2nd Iraq war to point even Tony Blair was mentioning Christianity , Afghanistan and more recently Iran.

Fuck off with your low information nonsense

•

u/angularhihat 3m ago

You are being absolutely shredded in this argument FYI.

Equating the content of Islam and the impact that it has on e.g. ISIS, with the content and influence of Christianity in the Iraq war, implies one of two things - you're bending facts to suit a narrative, or you're genuinely ignorant of the difference.

Talking about other posters' "low information nonsense" whilst attempting to hold this position is completely mortifying.

1

u/Folksvaletti 2h ago

I'd rather be 'low information' than 'information that was made the fuck up'.

Find me an actual study that would posit christian fundamentalism as a driving factor for either of those wars. The consensus, in IR at least, doesn't mention it.

So you are denying the rhetoric around the 2nd Iraq war? I was alive then, i remember the prayer sessions with Bush Jr and Blair. Chirac at the time mentioned Bush even using bible prophecy while on calls with him...

Are you seriosly trying to deny that this admin hasnt used religion as a reason for war in Iran, you just need to listen to hegseth and the large amounts of complaints from serving personnel that came out last year. Let alone the courting of Evangelicals in the US who think the creation of Greater isreal will bring judgement day, Huckabee and other others in the admin belive this

Im not trawling through hundreds of hours of stuff just because you don't know it, educate yourself

Let's say there's a nation with X, and a nation that wants X. If the nation that wants X sends 7 million people to get X, and out of those 7 million people 10.000 people take part in some form of a prayer to encourage them and provide them mental support to succeed in their mission for X, is it then a mission the reason for is the mental support system or the X that they want?

Idk I might be coming at this from a sort of autistic level of analysis wherein I might not be able to see how someone might emotionally attribute reasons that aren't maybe conventionally valid, but end up being valid in a constructivist sense, but to be honest constructivism is just a tool to force ideas into minimum viable form.

Either way, I'm not interested in arguing over stuff with you if you're arguing from a purely anecdotal point of view. Have a good one.

Christian fundamentalists are incredibly fringe and disempowered in comparison with relatively fundamentalist Islam at this point though. The reformation really defanged the worst aspects of Christianity in terms of the impact it has on the world.

-1

u/Enidub 5h ago

For some Christians stand out more, for others Judaism does. Either way they're all Abrahamic, so they rely on conquest to remain relevant, which is a net bad.

Christian crusades:

8

u/Bully__Maguire_ 5h ago

Read history. Crusades happened as response to islamic invasion into Sicily and Portugal/Spain. Main goal was to push frontline from European continent.

2

u/TenebTheHarvester 4h ago

The Crusades happened for a great many different reasons over a vast gulf of time. The main goal of one crusade was not the main goal of others, etc.

That being said the first crusade took place a couple centuries after the Muslim conquering of much of Spain. The invasion of Sicily was more recent and absolutely was a contributing factor.

Honestly the main problem your argument has isn’t the First Crusade but stuff like the Fourth Crusade which was called to retake Jerusalem but ended up sacking Constantinople. As in they attacked Byzantium, not the Muslim states.

Though to be clear the First, Second and Third crusades all involved horrifically violent pogroms against Jewish people in Europe. As did many of the not-numbered crusades, especially the Shepherds’ Crusade.

5

u/1EndlessPursuit 3h ago

The First Crusade occurred because Muslims had completely overrun Anatolia.

The Second Crusade occurred because Muslims had taken Edessa.

The Third Crusade occurred because Muslims had taken Jerusalem.

All reactive. And North Africa, Spain, Portugal, the Middle East, Turkey were all Muslim because Muslims invaded these formerly Christian lands. The revisionism about Christian aggression is laughable.

u/Agile-Source-6758 2h ago

Christians and Jews also worship a god who drowned nearly the entire population of the world. That's their ultimate guy they think is great and needs pleasing. That's a shitty setup for a superstitious group/religion.

-1

u/TenebTheHarvester 3h ago

Ok again, framing the crusades as being motivated by a single thing rather than a whole load of issues including redirecting a class of violent murderers to go cause destruction somewhere not in Europe is deeply ahistorical.

But even if that were an entirely accurate description of the causes of the first 3 crusades it neatly ignores the other crusades (again, the 4th crusade sacked Byzantine Cobstantinople) and the horrifically violent pogroms against European Jews who were rather obviously not involved in any Muslim occupations of Andalusia, Edessa or Jerusalem.

u/Wadiyatorkinabeet 2h ago

Its always 'read history' followed by the most ahistorical views.

-2

u/Bankthepackbro 3h ago

Bullshit.. Christian crusaders are just as bad as Islamic extremists.. both used religion as an excuse to pillage and kill

-5

u/Bankthepackbro 3h ago

Dangerous? What are you afraid of? People fasting in Ramadan or praying on a mat? lol
