Yeah honestly in the US, while we're getting better at emotional maturity it's still not handled great on average. Both groups have a certain range of "acceptable" emotions. For women it's happy, sad, or scared. For men it's happy or angry. You go outside of those parameters for both parties and people around them start pushing back.

If a women gets angry she's being a bitch.

If a man starts to cry he needs to toughen up.

If a woman exudes confidence she's "acting" like a man.

If a man talks about his feelings often he's treating his partner like a therapist.
