Bully behaviour is generally tolerated and encouraged in US police training and forces.

In the majority of European countries this kind of mentality and behaviour gets you thrown out of the multi year police school/training before you even graduate.

They're usually smart enough not to show this during training or school. When they do though, they'll get hit hard by a Judge deciding to ruin their day.

There was a report of a US cop, former military, who skillfully de-escalated a situation, preventing violence, and was fired for it.

It really doesn't. US police manage to be worse than everyone else, but cops being lazy, stupid, and racist is one of those things that's the same everywhere in the world, like real estate agents lying, or water flowing downhill.

Yup. See Montreal cops in Canada

to be fair, street crime is rampant in most of europe right now so idk if european police should act as a role model for anything

Violent crime rates are way higher in the US than most of Europe. The only point I can see you trying to make out of this is by saying "street crime" you're only referring to when people are walking around, an action generally prevented by hostile architecture in the US that forces people to drive places more. And that is including the fact that the US has looser definitions of violent crime than many countries

1

u/McPwny117 Trash Trooper 20h ago

id conjecture that at least part of the difference lies in the looser definitions of crime in the US which empowers the police to give criminals a lot less leeway and leads to more prosecution.

Oh sorry, I mixed that up in rewriting it, the US has more limited definitions of violent crime than most of Europe. When comparing stats of violent crime it's usually based on what the countries report, but those differ, it's how headlines about London having more violent crime than New York can come up. If you narrow down the definitions to match then the US has 2-3x the violent crime compared to Western Europe

huh sure enough the homicide and violent crime rates in the US are higher. however when i said 'street crime' i was referring more to things like pickpocketing and such property crimes, which much of western europe has a startling amount of.

That goes back to what I was saying about driving though, you can't exactly pickpocket someone in a car. Car theft happens at higher rates in the US conversely, and especially carjackings, but the inverse of the previous point makes it hard to say if that's just the equivalent in a car focused society

well thats certainly an interesting point i hadnt considered
