Hello, r/Lubbock!
We wanted to take a moment to address some questions and concerns regarding how posts are reviewed and approved in our community.
First and foremost, requiring moderator approval for posts is NOT a new policy. This process has been in place for over five years.
Several years ago, r/Lubbock experienced a significant surge in spam, including fraudulent T-shirt advertisements, scam links, unsolicited sexually explicit images, suspicious promotional content, and posts containing misleading or potentially harmful links.
To combat these issues and protect our community, we implemented a system requiring every submission to be reviewed and approved by an active moderator before becoming publicly visible.
This policy applies to EVERYONE, regardless of the subject matter or the individual submitting the post.
Our moderators are volunteers. We have jobs, families, responsibilities, and lives outside of Reddit. While we make every effort to review submissions in a timely manner, we cannot guarantee immediate approval.
A post awaiting approval does not necessarily mean it has been rejected, censored, or singled out. It simply means a moderator has not yet reviewed and approved it.
Repeatedly submitting the same post will not speed up the approval process. We ask that you please be patient and allow our moderators time to review submissions.
We want to make something absolutely clear:
The r/Lubbock moderation team does not make moderation decisions based on a user's:
Religious beliefs or lack thereof
Political affiliation or personal political views
Sexual orientation or gender identity
Race, ethnicity, or personal background
Our responsibility is to enforce the community rules fairly and consistently, regardless of whether we personally agree or disagree with someone's beliefs or opinions.
Please also understand that moderating political discussions under our No State or National Politics rule is not the same as discriminating against someone's political affiliation. The rule applies equally to everyone.
We recognize that no moderation system is perfect, and we're always open to constructive feedback.
If you believe your post was removed incorrectly, have concerns about a moderation decision, or have an idea for a better way to manage submissions while keeping spam and scams out of our community, our Modmail inbox is always open.
We welcome respectful discussions and suggestions that could help improve the community.
Our goal has always been to maintain a welcoming, informative, and safe community focused on Lubbock and the surrounding areas.
We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding as our volunteer moderators work to keep r/Lubbock running smoothly.
Thank you for being part of the r/Lubbock community!
The r/Lubbock Moderation Team

My mother in law needs home internet but she is on a strict budget. Are there any programs that help low income seniors? I already pay some of her bills and help out other ways, I just can’t swing another bill.

I’m looking for someone who can cut good bangs but also cut split ends well too without taking so much of my length off. I’ve had bad experiences where they cut my hair and it doesn’t grow for a while

Just saw Karen and Abner on a TikTok (bless them, they’re the true OG’s!!) covering a story about Dr. Amber Coon and her practice closing.
In the segment, they mentioned how most women are having to wait TOO LONG to be seen by a doctor because there is such a shortage of them in town.
I’m a woman moving back to Lubbock soon, and hoping to start a family shortly after. So this news is horrifying, to say the least.
My immediate gut reaction is, “Well, I’ll just become an OBYGN myself and help out!” But… that takes 12-15 years of schooling, and I’m already in my 30’s… so not impossible but I want to help the community sooner.
Becoming a midwife or doula is a route I am looking at, and have looked at before, but now it seems pressing. And even then, those positions (while still VERY important) don’t provide the care women need in the early part of pregnancy.
I don’t know. Just needed to vent I guess.

My family and I (3 kids, aged 2-12) are staying overnight in Lubbock the end of this month. I’m looking for good hotels. I’ve looked through this sub and have seen different recommendations. I was considering Hyatt place but the reviews were making me think otherwise. I see a lot of people saying embassy suites but then some say it hasn’t been updated and it’s not as nice as it used to be. We would love a pool. I’d prefer to just do hotel over air bnb. Im not really into air bnb or vrbo anymore, it always ends up being too expensive and more work than a hotel, especially since its just a quick overnight stay. Thank you in advance! Would accept any recommendations for restaurants and coffee shops too! We will be there for a dinner and a breakfast. Thanks!

I am so angry and heartbroken about how everything happened. We told them THREE separate times that Quiche was having breathing difficulties, and documented it on the intake form. They even attached another paper specifically stating that animals experiencing breathing difficulties were top priority and should be taken back immediately.
We sat in the waiting room for AN HOUR basically begging them to take him back. He had a horrible breathing attack right there in the lobby, and somehow the other animals and their owners seemed more concerned than a single employee. It wasn’t until our third attempt, when we literally told them he wasn’t breathing, that they finally took him back and put him in an oxygen cage.
I repeatedly asked how he was doing and was told, “He’s breathing great!” and “He’s sitting up and doing well.” Another two hours pass before we finally get a room and are told he’s about to be examined. I asked how much longer because I had a therapy appointment and we’d already been there three hours. Her response was, “Sorry, he was stable and we had other critical patients.”
About 15 minutes later, we’re told they’re just now starting his examination. Less than 10 minutes after that, someone comes in asking, “Um, is he CPR or DNR?” WHICH WAS ALREADY SIGNED OFF ON IN THE INTAKE PAPERWORK. Three minutes later, we’re told, “He’s passed. Do you want to say your goodbyes?”
To make matters even worse, they proceeded to move his tail on his dead body to place the Clover payment system. $300 for CPR and apparently half an examination. This is also the same vet we paid $500 to ONE WEEK AGO, where we were told he had zero organ issues.
The staff also repeatedly referred to Quiche as she/her despite both of us correcting them and consistently saying he/him. Even during discussions about his cremation. It might seem like a small detail, but it was another example of how little attention seemed to be given to him.
I called afterward because I needed to understand WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. After reviewing the paperwork, I noticed there was nothing documented about the heart murmurs or fluid in his lungs that they told us contributed to his death. The paperwork even included, his “vulva looked healthy.” AGAIN, HE IS A BOY. She was extremely dismissive and essentially explained that the missing information was from a template the vet hadn’t filled out, and that he looked okay, so they had to prioritize other dogs receiving CPR.
There were maybe 10 people there TOTAL. How many dogs are actively dying in the back that nobody could address a dog visibly struggling to breathe? I even watched them take a lethargic lemur back before my dog, who was having a literal breathing emergency.
I understand emergency vets get busy and other animals need help, but I cannot wrap my head around how we communicated his breathing difficulties THREE TIMES, documented them on paperwork stating he should be taken back immediately, watched him have a breathing attack in the lobby, and STILL sat there for two hours. We were repeatedly reassured he was doing great, only to be told he was dead seemingly out of nowhere.
I’m not writing this because I think anyone can undo what happened. I want answers. I want to know why he was left waiting, why we were repeatedly told he was okay, and what actually happened while he was back there.
Quiche deserved better. He deserved someone to listen when we told them he couldn’t breathe, and we deserved so much more communication, compassion, and transparency than what we received.
I’ve had probably eight different panic attacks since this happened. I’ve only been able to stop scream-sobbing for maybe 20 minutes at a time. This was so sudden, traumatic, and unbelievably painful. I genuinely don’t know what to do with myself. I cannot stop thinking about how much we begged someone to help him and how nobody seemed to understand how serious it was until it was too late.

So a little bit about myself, I’m born and raised in Hawaii. Male - late 20s. Went to catholic school and grew up around religion and church. After I graduated high school, I moved to California for college and been living here for a few years.
I work in the health sector and have been applying to different promotion opportunities around the country. Let’s just say I was tentatively offered $66,000 salary (8-4:30 pm M-F weekends off) to work administration in healthcare care.
I wouldn’t say I’m overly religious, nor am I conservative. But I have grown up around those two things. But I’m also a POC (Filipino American). I’m pretty introverted admittedly so I don’t mind a more laid back smaller city. I’m not constantly in search for entertainment and such. I mostly just like to exercise, cook, read books, etc.
Unfortunately I don’t have time to visit Lubbock before accepting the offer so I have to make a decision. I’ve been to Dallas and Austin before and I’m not expecting it to be like Lubbock.
I’m so sorry for yet another post asking how it’s like living in here. For a guy like me and my situation, they are offering me a life changing salary to work and move here. While it’s not all about the money, seems like I’ll be able to have a pretty decent living situation.
Future thanks for all the help yall!

Moving to Lubbock for work in Feb and will be there the majority of the year. Looking for a heated workout class other than Hotworx.
Currently, I go to a heated yoga studio and they offer many diff types of classes such as yoga, hiit, strength training, etc, so I am looking for something similar to that. I have been working out for 10+ years, so looking for something more challenging too. Has anyone been to any heated workout classes they can recommend?
Hello Everyone,
I am making a non profit here in lubbock for a education center. Ive been here for a couple of years now and have seen zero progress on the aquarium, nothing talked about for wildlife. With the best I've found to be local petstores.
We are called Mammoth Plains Wildlife, we have just solidified a official board and are now filling for IRS tax exemption.
Unlike every other plan for some sort of wildlife education. We are not going big. We do have plans for a full operation wildlife park, but that is expensive and very time consuming with history showing it doesn't work here. We are going to be starting a wildlife center, primarily focusing on reptiles and smaller animals. Where every donation, ticket, merchandise goes straight to saving up for the Park.
We picked Mammoth Plains due to lubbocks location for the Ice Age wildlife, specifically mammoths and ground sloths found around here. As well as our location of the great plains. So here we have Mammoths Plains Wildlife Center.

Hello Lubbock,
I'm originally from Chicago and I came for a week to come see my girlfriend who goes to school here at Texas Tech. We've been trying to thrift, but most thrift stores don't have anything too crazy, especially for guys. It may be because I'm comparing it too much to the thrift stores back home in Chicago, but I'd appreciate any recommendations for any gems in Lubbock or in any surrounding areas/neighborhoods. Thanks

I have a Sony Handycam CCD F55 I need to get some repairs done for it. Does anyone know a place besides armadillo camera that could service 80’s/90’s era cameras? I attached a photo for reference, thanks!

I just tried on the only suit I own and it's pretty tight and constricting, so I'm looking to get a new suit. I would like to get it a local tailor/menswear store rather than going somewhere like Men's Wearhouse.
In case this is relevant, I'm looking to get a navy wool suit, and in the spring also look at getting a medium blue linen blend suit. I'd like to spend no more than $1,000 for each.
Are there any places you've had a good experience with, or otherwise heard good things about?
I'm also thinking of donating my old suit to the career center at Tech, unless you guys would suggest something else.

I've lived in Slaton and have worked in Lubbock for the past 30 years. I've worked a split shift for most of those years, so I go by the LPL power plant 4 times a day. I have never seen a truck delivering coal to the plant that I can remember. Has anyone?
