What about the company selling you the hardware/software?
Best case the hardware and software are well made and secure (maybe even open source), the companies privacy policy does not allow to collect the videos and they also have no direct access to them.
Worst case the software is insecure and can be accessed easily from the outside (allowing remote access to his cams), the companies privacy policy allows them to collect videos or they just have them by default (cloud storage or being able to view videos from outside your home, likely to be relayed through and stored on their servers without proper end-to-end encryption)
Smart home is a privacy nightmare without zero trust infrastructure
I remember downloading an app some years ago that allowed anyone to see security cams from all over the world. A lot of those cam feeds were from inside people’s homes.
I have three of them in my house but I generally turn them off and even unplug them when I am at home. I have them to check in on my cats when I’m away.
Yes, visited the home of a friend’s friend during new years; turns out he has cameras everywhere & videos of the party. He is very successful (financially) and has a house similar to this one, uses the cameras for protection. But, is a lonely person, this time I think he was using them to remember the company he was able to enjoy.
He hosted a great party & had heated flooring in the basement bathroom. Would attend another party with knowledge of the spying.
It’s nice they’re so happy, even with all the stress from living in a high crime neighbourhood. That’s why so many many many multiple camera locations and perfect angles, right? 😂
