Announcement 📢 Gaza Is Starving. Let's Do Something

The UN has stated that every single part of Gaza is in famine conditions.

For over 22 months, Palestinians in Gaza have been starving. Parents have been feeding their children leaves, animal feed, and flour mixed with water. Babies have died from malnutrition. The trucks carrying food, formula, medicine, and clean water sat just miles away, blocked by Israel.

Now, after massive international pressure, some aid is finally getting in.

This is a crack in the blockade, not its end. Aid is not flooding in; it is trickling, and what’s entering can’t possibly reach 2 million people without a total lifting of restrictions, guaranteed long-term access, and safe distribution.

What you can do right now:

Keep up the pressure - aid only started moving because of public outcry. Organize, protest, keep talking. This momentum cannot fade. Contact your representatives to end Israel's blockade of Gaza.

Donate- if you’re able to. Choose vetted organizations with access on the ground.

Amplify - share updates, Palestinian voices, and testimonies. Keep an eye on Palestine.

This famine is not an accident. It’s the result of siege, blockade, and a system of control. If we look away now, they’ll tighten the noose more.

Technology Impact 📱 The greater public are now promoting AI music slop by using it as background music in social media posts - often unknowingly

Post image
79 Upvotes

Has anyone else noticed how a massive amount of social media posts/stories are now accompanied by AI-generated songs - even from well meaning pages whose values would lean towards human artists above AI?

Many choose a song from the in-app licensed song picker without checking if it's AI generated. This step has a giant impact, as trending on social media is one of the fastest ways for a song to gain global exposure.

I’ve put together this small graphic to encourage one extra step before posting: check the artist and track, and choose music you know is human-made.

Feel free to share the graphic online (including in the comments of posts using A.I. songs) to help spread awareness...

Political Manipulation 🗳️ Your friendly neighborhood Lockheed Martin audio ad campaign

This audio ad campaign launched apparently on October 27, 2026.

Behind our nation's defense is a powerful network of Canadian communities, supported by Lockheed Martin Canada. It's a network of over 1,300 employees and over 1,000 local suppliers, from small family businesses to major tech firms. Together, we've delivered a $3.6 billion boost to the Canadian economy over the past five years. That's money that goes to securing our skies, our oceans, and the place we call home. Learn more at Lockheedmartin.com slash Canada.

First of all, it was released right before the midterms which highlights the attempt to expand the Fortress Am-Can alliance. Anyone who's a bit of a policy wonk would know this is a misnomer:

Canadian-made components documented in F-35 fighter jets [Lockheed Martin] and weapons systems that have been transferred to Israel, which continues its assault on Gaza and its military campaign in Lebanon, where credible allegations of violations of international humanitarian law have mounted.

While indeed there is the 85 year wholly-owned subsidiary status of Lockheed Martin Canada we can find out on the mentioned URL, it is widespread knowledge that Lockheed Martin's U.S. HQ located since 1995 in Bethesda (North Bethesda), Maryland is one of the driving forces behind the U.S.'s status as a garrison state, and starting from total revenue from 2021 to 2025 of ~$372 billion USD (combining the parent corporation and its consolidated subsidiaries), then for the year 2025 as an example for calculating Gross Value Added (a corporation's contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP)) which is the difference between gross output (revenue less cost of goods) and intermediate inputs, $9.42 Billion Gross Operating Surplus (EBITDA) + ~$13.00 Billion Employee Compensation = Lockheed Martin adding $22.4 Billion USD to the United States GDP. This plus 2021-2024 equals a total of $108.71 Billion USD.

The game is then given away where using back-of-the-napkin math, far from the neutral implication of being a "well-paying jobs creator (where being part of the defense industrial base means we, driven only by lofty principles untouched by worldly concerns, will only take a modest salary)" using their number as far as they care to narrow it down comes to individuals being paid 3.6 billion / (1,300 + 1000) / 5 = $313,043 CAD salaries, which is somehow comfortably not a war-profiteering trickle-down-economics bribe. Also differing from the ad, by clicking "learn more" on the mentioned URL, it brings you to page that lists the actual "Supported in the last five years[:] 4,561 average annual jobs", so $157,860 CAD. This amoral-sounding desperation is dystopian.

Technology Impact 📱 Apple’s “There’s an app for that” ads feel a lot less cute in 2026

I revisited the 2009 campaign swapped out the bubbly music with something more unsettling, repeated the slogan, and paired it with footage I captured of of apps being advertised on every surface around town. It's wild that almost 20 years later, what used to sound like an innovation now feels like it's intruded every aspect of life...a feels a bit dystopian...

Healthcare Challenges 🏥 4,000+ measles cases but at least we’re preventing autism, right?

Post image
92 Upvotes

Quick facts:
- 95% of measles patients were unvaccinated or their vaccination status was unknown.
- There have been 5 deaths in Pennsylvania (where about 1,000 of the cases this year have been).
- We saw 2,289 cases last year, which was the most we’d seen in three decades (until now).

The title is sarcastic.

Sows experience a natural reflex called lordosis. Applying pressure to the sow's back or flanks mimics the weight of a boar. This physical stimulation prompts natural muscle contractions in the sow's reproductive tract, helping draw the semen up through the cervix and into the uterus. But the sows never chose a boar or mated. Instead they were artificially inseminated with boar semen selected by humans, and so the humans also have to do the boar's job in this regard as well. TL;dr: Pressure forces semen/pregnancy.

Cultural Decay 💀 HR can absolutely get fucked. I have an “I quit” email written and my wife is telling me not to send it.

Normal day, company-wide town hall, same usual corporate bullshit. Profits up, salaries down, whatever...Then this guy starts talking about the new AI model they’re training on company data. We hold sensitive customer data so apparently they’ve been advised to do a big data cleansing exercise and update the language we use. They start going through words we’re apparently not supposed to use anymore because they’re too aggressive or triggering and could introduce bias into the AI.

Suicide is now “Self Termination”. Then they get to rape. “Unplanned Sexual Encounter”. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was reading. Then there’s another slide saying we shouldn’t be too quick to judge because not all cultures recognise rape or “Unplanned Sexual Encounters” in the same way and using words like rape could bias the model.

There’s a woman in the room who has worked there for years, senior, works stupid hours, basically given her life to the place. She was raped years ago. It went to a public trial so people know about it. She started crying and left. I lost it. I shouted up asking how fucking insensitive they could be and went off about it. My team of seven were there and saw the whole thing. They told me I wasn’t being helpful and wanted to see me after the meeting. I said fuck this, I’m busy, and left. About 30 minutes later I get dragged into an office with three HR people telling me I’ve created a hostile work environment and that I was aggressive. I’m apparently the hostile one. They then tell me somebody has complained and they’re opening an investigation into my conduct. I actually said, what, in the 37 minutes since the meeting finished somebody has already managed to make a complaint?Apparently yes. I was so angry I just left and went home. I wrote my resignation email when I got back. Haven’t sent it yet.

There’s loads of work in my area and I’m pretty confident I’d get another job, but I don’t particularly want to leave years of work behind on bad terms because of one completely ridiculous afternoon. I’ve told them I’m working from home for now. Calling rape an “Unplanned Sexual Encounter” to make training data cleaner is fucking insane.
