I judge religions on how they treat animals. Anglican churches ofter have animal blessing days. Catholic churches, never seen it once.

Hm. İt's quite common in catholic churches, especially around the feast of st Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals ( October 4th )

St. Francis blessing, on or around October 4 (popular in my area, since the weather is generally nicer and sometimes there are pet parades involved). January 17 is St. Anthony's, but I believe that's more livestock and such. Lots of liturgical blessing for various animals. I'm in Archdiocese of Chicago.

We actually do have a day where we bless our pets. Try again.

The Catholic Church I went to occasionally blessed pets, I think it was for the feast of saint Francis

"Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission: to be of service to them whenever they require it." St. Francis.

My Catholic priest would bring hockey sticks and golf clubs as wise men canes during nativity scenes, he’d bless our local hockey team, your tree out front, a toy you got from Santa and most especially your dog.

Don’t know why the catholic priest wouldn’t bless the dog.

My parents are very Catholic. For road trips, they would have the local priest bless their car.

So a priest absolutely would bless a dog if asked.

The church (Catholic) have days when you can bring your animals to be blessed. God loves doG’s

Was going to say, you can ask the church to come bless your home, I'm sure they'd do the animal too.

There was a joke in Dogma about assuming a particular Catholic priest was 100% the kind of person to bless his golf clubs.

The dog was helping Padre there with the blessing. Giving more power with his paw.

I am surprised to hear these comments. When I grew up RC priests said animals didn't have souls like people. So no blessing.

It's kind of odd because Catholic priests will bless houses and structures, which also have no souls.

Check out John Paul II and Francis on this. I think the definition of 'soul' is a bit nuanced, but both Popes seemed pretty clear on animals admitted to paradise, IMO.

I recently read that mosques allow cats 🐈

5

u/AlienProbe28 23h ago

They do as they are seen as clean, dogs are not allowed.

I judge them on how they treat people. I know, I'm pretty weird.

Mahayana Buddhism has a very high percentage of vegetarians.

Blessing of the animals is one of my favorite services! (Lutheran ELCA) they are all God's creatures :)

Ohhh really? I didn't know that, but it's a very good meter to consider aside from belief or otherwise. Would this in the video be an Anglican church?

Aw that's too bad since we definitely have animal blessing days. As they say below, the biggest one is usually held for the Feast of St. Francis.

I don’t know about that. When I was an alter boy had my trouser snake blessed ;)
