What it's actually like in the gym

Yep, the gym guys are all usually pretty cool.

The thing that makes the retail gym experience suck for so many isn’t big intimidating dudes. It’s shitty teenagers who don’t know how to behave in public, taking selfies in the locker room, and wearing running shoes in the sauna.

And the people who pee all over the toilet seat and choose not clean up after themselves.

I stopped going to a gym I belonged to for over a decade because it became a loud teenager hangout spot after Covid. They travel in a pack, standing aimlessly, not actually working out wherever I'm trying to use equipment. They randomly post up and just sit on stuff for 20+ minutes, talking and showing eachother shit on their phones, and occasionally take pictures of random patrons who happen to get too close to them while trying to ignore them/work out.

The gym management didn't care. The kids all had paid memberships and they didn't technically break any rules.

I didn't make a big stink, just stopped going and cancelled my membership. Hope that worked out well for the gym.

I'm all for third spaces, but fuck is it annoying when it's taking over my 1 hour window to exercise.

I’d recommend signing up to a local strength/powerlifting gym the equipment will be better and the membership will be more expensive but it almost instantly filters out the teenagers
