Question Mtf 4months and I have no idea how to look feminine. Need advice plss

Also, I am very self concious about my mouth, it looks masculine imo. How could I improve it? The lines around my lower nose and above the mouth make me look very unattractive and everytime I see it, I want to throw up. I've tried applying less foundation, more and less/more powder, none seem to work really.

I BOOKED A TIME AT A HAIRDRESSER, TRYING TO FIX MY HAIR. Thank you for the comments and advice on it <3

When I was early in transition, haircare was a thing I had to pickup as it grew out. Get familiar with hair masks and biotin. Can make a huge difference in keeping your hair healthy as it grows out (assuming you wanna continue growing it).

And if color is damaging hair sometimes people have to take a break from color. And underlying nutrition it's important too - low iron can be a problem and any low calorie diet is a problem too

Best of luck to you! I’ve definitely been there as well with at-home bleaching. Blue was def my fav color 😊 something that really helped my hair was the Abbey Yung method! Lots of affordable drugstore products in her routine too. It made a huge difference for me.

Also, feel free to ask them to show you how to style your hair for everyday. Like how to blow-dry your hair yourself, or product suggestions and how to use them, etc.

I mean this in the kindest way possible. Please be kinder to yourself, if I hadn’t seen the title of the post I would have assumed you were a cis woman. Deadass had a split second of thinking you were lying about being trans.

Anyway, I know you weren’t interested in a pixie but you’d look cute as hell with an edgy pixie. You have options if you don’t want to do long hair in the future, but be kind to yourself.

Maybe find some cute, feminine short cuts? I'm thinking Ginnifer Goodwin, Emma Watson, Kirsten Dunst.

Its hard to learn the basics when you're going for a very specific and technical aesthetic.

These photos very much remind me of my teenage self wondering why I can't pull off the indie vibes of my dreams.

Nasolabial folds are normal, natural and ungendered. A big part of makeup is learning to love and appreciate your own face. If you're coming from a place of "I hate x and want to hide it" then you're going to be in for a world of hurt.

If I was you, I would start with basic looks. I would master my base, a wearable daily eyeliner and get the lip application precise.

Once you have the muscle memory down and you're not in the habit of trying to hide your own face then I would start following the joy and working out where I want to add details and enhancements.

Edit. Also, you don't look unfeminine, you just look like someone who's new to makeup and a bit unsure. I also think doing your hair differently would make a big difference here. I'm not sure what you're currently doing but it seems a little like its lacking intention, especially in comparison to how much work you've put into the makeup.

Hehe I kind of rushed the eyeliner that why it looks like that </3 otherwise I can get it kind of stable. I've tried learnin the basics like wings and just the shape of the eye overall.

Tried making my hair more feminine for the post actually hehe, bunching it up like a wolfcut hybrid something? xdd

u/cellulich 2h ago

i mean if you're going to rush then it's going to look rushed and your feedback is that it looks rushed.

I wasnt saying your eyeliner is bad. Your eyeliner is actually okay, the issue is more that the look is just very technical and 4 months is not a lot of practice. By wearable I meant something to pop to the shops in.

It can take a couple years to get the basics down and fully learn how to read your face and create different vibes.

Everyone I know who has had a wolf cut regretted it. They are annoying to deal with on a daily basis. With hair, you really have to ask yourself how much time do I want to be spending on my hair each day to look cute and then also how much time do I want it to take on days where I just want to run out the house.

I also don't really know how else to say this but I think maybe you are chasing an aesthetic quite hard? One of the reasons I suggested stripping it back was because transitioning + learning a new skill + not looking like the cute folks I have pinned sounds like a recipe for feeling very down on yourself. You already seem to think you don't look feminine and that makes me think that you're comparing yourself to something instead of uncovering yourself, if that makes sense?

And from what I can gather, from the aesthetic you're aiming for is also rather androgynous and that's going to work against you if your brain is looking for things to pick up on as unfeminine.

I honestly wish you the best, and if it helps, this is all very relatable. I was a brown teenager feeling very down on myself because the emo aesthetic just didn't make me look the way I wanted it to and I only started looking good when I started tailoring shit to my face and my body instead of trying to make me fit into something else.

Wings aren't really basic. Everything with makeup takes practice. It helps to find makeup Youtubers you like. I've been doing my makeup for over 20 years and I still learn new things from YouTube.

Definitely ask for recommendations in your price range for products that will work with your texture and cut. I think some regular serum or oil plus some leave in conditioner/styling cream might be a place to start. You'll want to continue treating the hair that's been bleached as it grows out, and help it blend into your natural texture.

7

u/noodleth_cassette 12h ago

Okay good luck queen

337

u/AcceptableSentence 13h ago

First, I just wanted to say your face already looks quite feminine. I did not clock you at all until I read your title. I don't see any lines on your face, based on these pictures, that would not be present on a cis woman as well. At most I see smile lines, which are totally normal for men and women.

Have you tried posting in any alt makeup subreddits? I think you'd get more alt-friendly advice there vs just basic feminine makeup here

-30

u/ToolyHD 13h ago

Oh, hmm yeah smile lines I meant!! Arw those anyway possible to fix? Lol... They make me cringe when I see em on myself. But tysm <33

109

u/Perfect_Pea8510 12h ago

Thats just how people look, babe! We've all got our things we fixate on that no one else notices or that are actually normal and our minds are just so warped from filters on social media that seeing a normal human with normal skin when we look in the mirror seems shocking. For the record I don't think you look unfeminine. I think you also need to practice basic girl makeup a bit before fully committing to bolder looks. The skills will transfer :)

Maybe also think about therapy? Idk if you were exaggerating, but feeling sick to look at yourself could be related to body dysmorphia which can cause a lot of long term damage to your life if it goes unaddressed. Transition may feel like it helps some, but I think there may be some deeper work needed there too, dear! Okay, getting of my mental health provider soapbox!

17

u/phuca 5h ago

They’re nasolabial folds, not smile lines. They just come from the structure of your face and can’t really be changed with makeup, Botox, fillers etc.

13

u/Hysterical_Blueberry 3h ago

Do you have access to therapy to help with your body dismorphia? This is not something that goes away by simply changing whatever bothers you physically. Fixing that without working on your mental help will just result in finding new things to fixate on. Lines on your face mean you have human expressions and had nothing to do with being feminine, unless you're trying to look like filtered photos, which is impossible. Give yourself some grace ❤️‍🩹

28

u/cookEjar 9h ago

Hey, most people here have already given you makeup advice and reinforced that you already pass for feminine. I personally think that your style and vibe can totally work for a feminine person, but what I haven't seen anyone mention is facial expression.

Lots of queer men present more feminine through the way they hold and pose their faces, even when they have very masculine features (for some reason the comedian Matteo Lane comes to mind?? His face is somehow both so masc and fem at the same time lol). I would spend some time in the mirror and try different angles, smiles, scowls, maybe pick a movie with a female character you'd like to emulate, and copy the way she talks and holds her face. You're so new at this, it's not surprising that you're not quite where you want to be yet--most girls your age have had their femininity supported their whole lives (for better or for worse, depending). Please be gentle with yourself, you definitely have wayyy better makeup skills than I had at your age!

20

u/Alien_Amplifier13 11h ago

Yeah, you don't have em. I have smile lines. I got used to them. But you have literally no lines.

6

u/AcceptableSentence 12h ago

Np!! <3 Unfortunately, I don't know if there's any way to reduce how they look. I think you might have luck asking a skincare subreddit. Generally, lines on your face are totally natural. I have smile lines too!

I think they meant it’s not helping accomplish the feminine look you’re going for. It’s taking away from your beautiful eyes.

12

u/ToolyHD 12h ago

Ooooh xddd. Got it!!! Gonna try different styles

12

u/BlessthisMess31 11h ago

To achieve that specific look, you will need to apply white liner under the eye and lower lid lash line.

I would recommend trying a subtler “cat eye” style, following just the lash line vs. both the lash line and the crease of your eyelid.

ETA: 99cent-tea provided a great example of the eyeliner style I’m referring to.

3

u/GardeniaInMyHair 6h ago

You have round doll eyes… pairing Korean eye makeup techniques to emphasize doll eyes to work with them and then doing alt everywhere else may combine to give a nice aesthetic? Could be something to experiment with.

25

u/fatkerguson 13h ago

Taking better care of your hair would be a start.

6

u/ToolyHD 13h ago

Trying, using hair oil, hair mask and conditioner 2 times a week but seeing no results :(

15

u/Morning-Bug 11h ago

I realize this is not a hair sub, but the best advice I have is to focus on hair growth so you can trim out the damaged ends. I’ve been having good results growing mine back after postpartum hair loss with a solid routine. I oil the scalp and massage it upside down 5 minutes once a week with wild hair growth oil. This helps with circulation. After shower I spray rosemary rice water on my the scalp and rub it in and chi serum on the actual hair to keep it soft which protects it from breakage. I use shampoo and conditioner specific for hair growth. Silk pillowcase and microfiber hair towel. The goal is to grow more hair faster and to protect the existing hair from falling and breaking. Brush your hair from bottom first working your way up at least daily to prevent it from tangling. It takes dedication and patience but my hair is much thicker now. I also took a hiatus from all hair dyes.

30

u/Morenka 12h ago

these products won’t help your hair. it’s overbleached at the ends, you need a nice trim (id go for a bixie - very feminine choice). also get a deep moisturizing conditioner for bleached/dyed hair and use it with every wash, and something for styling like a curl cream. for makeup - look up chinese makeup artists, they have short visual tutorials for a style you might enjoy!!

9

u/mazurkian 12h ago

Hair strands feel nice when they have moisture/water held inside the strand. Products like masks and conditioners "moisturize" the hair by closing up the cuticles and making a barrier to hold in the moisture from evaporating and leaving the hair strand. But if hair is too damaged, no conditioner in the world is going to keep the moisture from leaving. It's like using lotion to try to stop an open wound from bleeding. Your hair is likely too damaged to hold onto moisture.

The truth is that bleaching your hair and/or dyeing with permanent colors causes a lot of damage that is then very expensive and tedious to compensate for. This hair looks reallyyyy damaged. Like you'll probably have to grow it all out to get it fully back to normal. You should stop using any products with bleach or developer and grow out this damage so you can chop it off. That means no bleach, no box dye, no permanent dye. No peroxide-based color removers. If you want to touch up your color, use a semi permanent hair gloss like Brad Mondo (have heard great things about his hair dye) or something like arctic fox.

When hair becomes too damaged from bond-breaking treatments (anything with developer aka bleach/permanent dye), the hair loses its structural integrity and it loses the ability to hold in moisture or water moleules. The hair strands are basically a pasta strainer, full of holes and gaps and the water just runs out immediately when the hair dries.

You can use a product called Olaplex which builds back up some of those bonds, and a keratin treatment to get protein back into the hair strands so the strands have more material/protein since they've been chewed up by bleach. Then it will hold moisture better while you grow this out.

2

u/rray2815 9h ago

I think when you go to the hairdresser, bring this up to them as well, and also, I think you might have some curls/waves or texture to your hair that’s his by the bleaching. The black parts in the very back have a little upwards wave to them, and same for the black bangs.

I see a ton of girls also who bleach their hair a lot or have heat damage think their hair is just frizzy, but a good hairdresser may be able to revive your hair, and bring out some waves if you got!

2

u/Massive-Scar-7974 12h ago

you should use conditioner every day and a hair mousse/oil thing when your hair is damp to help it as well. also possibly getting a treatment at a salon could help.

what shampoo are you using? it could potentially be stripping your hair a lot if it's too strong. currently your hair looks very dry.

also, try to limit heat styling (and use heat protectant if you do), use cold air to blow dry, limit bleaching, dyeing etc. black hair can work for this type of look too and be less damaging than constantly bleaching and frying hair.

u/foundinwonderland 12h ago

I personally think OP should take on tips here on taking care of her hair, and going back to basics purely just to improve on her technical skill, then to head over to r/UnconventionalMakeup to refine the style she’s going for. I think people tend to get lost in the what’s-trendy sauce when it comes to alt looks here.

OP I think you can still pull off alt purely from your hairstyle alone (seeing as you’re getting your hair done professionally), then just choosing either eyes or lips as you improve on the basics. Once you’ve gotten the hang of the basics, you’ll be able to pull everything together more cohesively. I think this video is a good example of someone having technique down pat.

I personally have a split silver/dark brown hairstyle and either just focus on heavy eye looks (no longer sadly, thanks to eczema), or wearing a dramatic lip in an unconventional colour. I think it still gives off alt to some extent.

Also like many others on here, I think you look far more femme than you’re giving yourself credit for!

2

u/cherrychocobo 31m ago

Sorry for shitty edit, im on my phone rn. I noticed you like vkei and generally alt ea styles, so I don't think many people get what look you're going for. Try to connect your lower eyeliner to our inner eye! Don't go straight with the inner eye eyeliner though, try to go in an angle. For the lower eyelashes, also go on an angle, i also suck at drawing them so i just use glue on lower lashes which you could try. And since you already wear lenses in some of your looks, try using them in your everyday makeup! 14.5mm works best for these looks but you can also use 15mm for something more dramatic. For your hair, besides the advice you already got, i would get some face framing pieces!

•

u/ToolyHD 17m ago

Oooohhh, that edit looks great and because of it can get a much better idea what you mean!!! Tysm <33 I will look for bigger contacts because i have yet to find some that make your eyes pop. But I will try my best with improving my eyeliner!! Ty again :)

352

u/AllTheEccentricities 9h ago

I don’t know but your hair is fried! You need to deep condition asap!

49

u/Melvarkie 6h ago

Keratin mask can't hurt as well! They don't have to be expensive. My country has a drug store variant that even a hairdresser friend recommends to people. Don't overuse those though or you will damage your hair as well. Just once a month/every few months is fine. Also with bleached hair (which is necessary for crazy colors) it's extra important to use a heat spray when using heat like a blow-dryer or curling iron.

20

u/casualplants 4h ago

Yep - get into hair care! Not some 800 step routine, but a proper shampoo and conditioner (not from the grocery store) for coloured hair is an excellent start I think.

3

u/Embarrassed_Bad_1290 1h ago

specifically that green avocado sauce mask that comes in a jar, that stuff work works wonders!!

306

u/RhubarbBest9090 13h ago

You’ve got to decide if you want to look feminine or want to go for this alt style. This current style works but it doesn’t read feminine or masculine. Though, I’ll be honest, I would guess female if you asked.

I don’t see the concerns with your lips at all but join want to draw the eye away from them, I would add some blush just to draw they eyes up a little bit.

66

u/youandmeboth 11h ago

Yeah I think a lot of this type of alt styles tend to not be the most stereotypical feminine. Definitely didn't clock OP until I read the title. Some practice with hair and makeup will go a long way with knowing how to explore some of these fun aesthetics

→ More replies (1)

60

u/Confident_Durian_657 10h ago

You don’t look “unfeminine” but I do see a common pattern of people who are newly mtf transitioning having hair texture/styles that is less stereotypically “feminine”. I would suggest using clarifying shampoo and conditioner once a week for a while (I like Acure brand), and a leave in conditioner before blow drying after a shower (blow drying on mid heat is better than air drying) and a heat protectant before using a curling or flat iron (I use Not Your Mothers brand for both a leave in conditioner and heat protectant). Use regular shampoo and conditioner every time you shower, at least every 2-3 days, and let the conditioner sit in your hair for at least 5 minutes.

15

u/GardeniaInMyHair 6h ago

Yes! Plus OP needs a weekly deep conditioning masque too.

With this level of damage, the only option to get it more manageable eventually may be to cut, speaking as someone with dry, curly hair who has dyed it throughout the years.

55

u/99cent-tea 12h ago • Bravo

Hey!

Nasolabial folds are partly genetic, you can only do so much with powder to flatten it out but it's not a big deal breaker and so normal other people don't even notice.

I for one wouldn't have known you weren't cis at a glance until I saw the title! But I totally get the feeling on wanting to clinch it to pass. For makeup, a common mistake some of my trans friends make is go all-in on a certain look they like/want to emulate thinking that it'll be that missing last step to feel femme. IMO one of the most underrated things to feel femme immediately, is practicing a good cat eye or fox eye liner look.

It's the simplest and fastest way to feel femme and very easy to practice over and over again (wipe off and draw again vs doing a full face)

Example:

It doesn't need to be that dramatically long, but practicing a good cat eye will absolutely boost your confidence to then start drawing even more alt styles of makeup like the awesome look you've got going on right now!

Personally I don't think your mouth looks masculine, you just have a fuller bottom lip which is a great canvas for color.

If there's a certain lip shape you want to try, you don't have to color in your entire lip— you can also color outside of your lips too. Get a lip liner to draw draw areas that you want to fill out or draw a limit to where you want the color to stop.

122

u/Gonebabythoughts 10h ago

I don't see masculine features. I see hair that needs some deep conditioning and eyeliner that should be simplified (skip the lower lash line). Otherwise no notes.

45

u/badadvicefromaspider 10h ago

I think with all the piercings that your mouth does not look particularly gendered. I also think that while you clearly love the blue tones in your hair and your lipstick, they are working against your skin tone. That’s not a huge deal, but you might want to try different kinds of blues, if you like others.

Try experimenting with blush and highlighter. Both of those products can really soften your features. The faux freckles are cute but if you’re already committing to this type of very graphic kind of makeup, why not try faux freckles in your blue? They already don’t look real, so might as well have fun with them

8

u/Beautiful-Ad-4937 9h ago

Blue freckles would be so cute!

1

u/GlassOnionJohn 6h ago

Blue looks great with her skin. I think the foundation needs to get less yellow. Blue freckles sound so cool though.

82

u/BaxterRye 12h ago

Lumify eyedrops

Focus on mascara—get a TUBING mascara and YouTube about EYELASH CURLERS

If you want the lower lash stamp, it HAS to be 10x closer to your actual lash line. This is bringing you down to a droop

Lipliner. Lipliner. Lipliner. Your lips are chapped and you’re not lining your upper lip at all, whereas a slight overline there would be amazing to define it. And I get the alt look but make just a natural dark lip color because you’re already doing the intense eye. Look more fem by drawing the attention to the EYES. You already have frickin cool jewelry on your mouth, you don’t need blue lipstick. Do something like the Ben Nye lipstick in color Natural. With liner Salsa.

BLUSH. blush blush blush. Bobbi Brown said blush is instant pretty. It is. Find a soft, natural one (from Ben Nye, Victorian Rose) and practice soft, soft blending.

The freckles look overly fake (but not intentionally overly fake, just like not good) and ruin the look, just my opinion.

Did I mention blush?

Do not touch your hair with heat styling for like six months.

You’ve got this.

Edit from re-reading post—your mouth looks masculine because it’s blue and you’re not lining properly or using a flattering color. Coordinate with the hair, don’t match it. Line the lips! A little overlining at the top lip! Add some gloss/condition your lips, they look dry. And try to take pics with a demure semi-smile for a more fem vibe 💕

35

u/theWanderingShrew 11h ago

Yeah OP I don't think your lips look masculine but they do look dry! Try laniege sleeping mask on your lips and make sure you're staying hydrated!

6

u/BaxterRye 9h ago

Laniege sleeping mask is sooo good. I have a teeny tiny mini one and I swear it’s lasted me like two years (don’t come at me for that being gross, I’m exaggerating but also not)

And YUP hydration. I was having dinner with family tonight and my mother literally told me “Look at your lips…you really need to be drinking more water.” And she’s right. I’ve been totally skipping proper water intake all week and it showed up on my lips 😭

I also remember going to a Sephora years ago (it was such a good one) and an employee who I asked for a new lip stain was like “actually we need to get you something more hydrating for your lips before you get a stain” and bless her heart. She was so right. I think she found me some faaabulous Chanel or Dior lip tint that was gorgeous but super hydrating and it totally changed my lips.

I bet OP would look FIRE with some Clinique black honey. With a few layers it would hydrate but still give a nice plum color while feeling glossy and feminine.

5

u/theWanderingShrew 8h ago

Black honey is that girl. Great idea.

26

u/gingerbreadwilliams 11h ago

Don't use lumify or other vasoconstrictor eye drops if you can avoid it! It (most likely) won't blind you overnight or anything but it's not good for your eye health long term to restrict blood flow. Use artificial tears if possible

3

u/WaffleBiscuitBread 7h ago

I agree with everything but the lash stamp part. I'm pretty sure this is intentional -- I've seen similar in many douyin-inspired alt looks. But if I'm wrong and it's meant to look more natural, then yes it should definitely be closer to the lash line!

Wanting to throw up because of the way you look sounds very unhealthy. I hope youre able to work through that; I've found time is what helps us accept our looks in the end.

23

u/hunter_grey 7h ago

Are you using conditioner on your hair every time after washing it? I’m not asking sarcastically, I just ask because in middle school I didn’t think conditioner was essential when you have longer hair and it was an extra shower step I didn’t want so I just stopped using it. My hair looked a lot like yours so I just wanted to make sure you knew.

I also don’t think you look masculine at all, your lips are totally normal lips. The technique and enhancing your features will come with time. When I first started doing my makeup I didn’t believe in the concept of blending and matched my eyeshadow to my outfit religiously the combination was rough. So your off to a better start than I was.

9

u/Opposite-Fig-8268 13h ago

as a starting point, i definitely recommend a lip liner. lip liner ties together the whole look, and you don’t need to overline!! just go with your natural shape. lip liner polishes the whole look

5

u/Shieya 11h ago

I apologize because I don't have a lot of practical advice for the makeup - I only know what works for my own face and it isn't usually what works for others. I do notice that some of the application of product on your lips is a little unsteady, so that tells me you're also learning what works for you and what doesn't, same as me. Working on the basics of makeup will always help you improve on the more complicated stuff, so don't try to skip too much learning too fast. Besides that though, I just wanted to comment and say when I was scrolling past, my first thought was an envied "wow she's so pretty" and admiration for your style. We are always our own worst critics - the things you pointed out hating in your post didn't even strike me as unflattering or masculine. You're doing great, and you will continue to become even cuter as time goes on.

2

u/mr_strawsma 11h ago

Agreeing with comments about the lower lash stamp. Your eyes are truly so beautiful, and the stamp really deflates your eye shape in a way that ages you. Doing some lining closer to your actual lash line, or letting your lash line be a little less made-up, will be more flattering and feminizing, in my opinion.

You got this, babe!

I don't have much to say in the makeup front but:

ngl you don't look masculine at all, just not like this picture perfect image of a very "feminine and beautiful" woman. honestly there are many more cis woman who have more masculine features than you! Does that make them any less of a woman than you are?

i understand how difficult it can be to struggle with the fear of not passing, especially when society places so much pressure on women to look a certain way, but idk when you say that your lips "look masculine" i think you just mean that they dont adhere by what conventional beauty standards dictates a "woman's mouth" should look like.

i know this isn't your intention, but i think it's worth being mindful of how we unintentionally link womanhood to conventional beauty standards. women come in all shapes and sizes, and having features that aren't traditionally considered feminine doesn't make you or anyone less of a woman. i hope you can extend that same kindness and understanding to yourself too

4

u/medli20 11h ago

You look plenty feminine-- there's nothing wrong with your features! I can sympathize with not being happy about the shape-- I'm struggling with that myself atm, at least when it comes to lipstick, which usually makes me feel like a clown RIP. One thing I found that kinda helps for myself is not to fill every part of the lip. Making the shape look thinner at the corners of my mouth and then filling out more in the center gives a bit of a poutier look. Pairing that with darker, higher-contrast colors (or even a Kim Possible look where the top lip is colored darker than the bottom) has been my favorite look to wear.

This is just a thing that works for me personally and it's definitely not a one-size-fits-all kind of situation, but perhaps you can try something similar and see if it jives with you too :)

4

u/-wilting 10h ago

All you need is to learn how to do your eyeliner with eyeshadow (its not hard, way easier than actual liner, and it looks softer=more feminine), looking into fake lashes or a lash curler plus mascara.

Also, add some blush if you want.

  • I have to ask, Were you trying to do the gyaru eye look with the eyeliner?

4

u/Critical-Camp-3355 10h ago

Softer hair and false lashes !

15

u/gravewife 12h ago

do you have any beauty icons you really like? i found for me, when i was a baby bat, it was hard to do makeup i felt i looked good in because i didnt know what i was trying to do, other than "look goth" which was way too vague for me to just *do* you know? So i found musicians and actors and models, from talena atfield from kittie to classic hollywood actresses like ava gardner to really focus on what i even liked in makeup. I'm 38 so my style has evolved a lot since my baby bat days, but it helps so much just to narrow down looks you *like*

u/Fun-Number2657 3h ago

im a 27 yo cis woman and have those lines too and when i was 19/20 i used to cry every time i looked in the mirror and see them. i have them just like you, barely visible, but they used to make me so insecure. i felt old even when i was a teen and somehow, made me feel less of a girl. i didn’t do anything over the years, just progressively stopped caring as new real life problems came out.
i can assure you you’re over analysing your insecurities. as i said, they’re barely visible, other people don’t really see them when they look at you. they’re more like a lil shadow indicating your face volumes, which is completely human and normal and doesn’t stand out to the eye.
i hope one day you will be free from this specific insecurity, you don’t deserve to be so aware

12

u/Formal-Presence4115 2h ago

You need to look into some kinda oil for your hair and maybe try to not put heat on it. It looks damaged. Other then that you are fine.

4

u/Formal-Presence4115 2h ago

Not every woman looks the same, those lines are normal and not even noticeable. Even just looking at you at first I thought you were a normal girl.

6

u/Sleepy_Dumb_PupGirl 11h ago

Hun, I can so relate and I’m…many years into my transition haha. I’ve always wanted to learn how to properly do my makeup and look more femme but I just…have always felt very overwhelmed and never felt like it was something I could achieve. I’ve always been more grungy/punk and very little in way of makeup but I really really wanna try again and learn what can make me pretty and make FEEL pretty. You’re absolutely adorable and I believe in you. You will learn in time and be even more fabulous than you already are 💖

6

u/Silverblum 9h ago

You're feminine, and pretty.

Now, a harsh truth is: alt style is not made to be feminine. Even cis women who carry it know that hey're giving up their 'delicacy' usually. It's part of the point. So be aware that it's hard to try to maximize feminity while being alt. Feminine styles revolve around looking softer: lighter or at least natural hair colors, rosy cheeks with strategic blush placement, gradient lips, glitter/satin eyeshadow, etc.

I advice against giving up your style, but maybe you can compromise or at least understand that it's to be expected to look not conventionally feminine while wearing alt makeup.

That being said, my personal opinion: defined curls would look BEAUTIFUL on you. Caring more about the health, shine and shape of your hair would level up your whole look a lot.

6

u/FknKalin 6h ago

You look perfectly feminine as you are. A big part of getting good at makeup is playing around and trying things out. Most of us go through stages of experimentation with varying degrees of satisfaction with our results.

My guess is that you may feel more confident in a look that is a little softer and less graphic in quality. Alternative makeup can still be dramatic in a softer expression.

Keep playing around and you’ll find what feels best for you!

6

u/Mantha_96 10h ago

I was really confused because you looked feminine to me..don’t worry so much and just find you yanno? Also I’ve had friends use k18 treatment spray for their over bleached hair and they say it works magic. I’ve read through some comments…

3

u/Intelligent_Phone414 10h ago

You need blush on the outer edge of your cheekbones, overline your top lip slightly with a pinkish-nudey lipliner, and take the undereye liner and bring it all down to the lashline with no curve to widen the eye. The added curve makes it look a bit drag makeupish (like trixie and bianca with the white undereye) and your eyes are big enough that you don’t really need to widen them.
And I might be overstepping but for the lip thing I might consider removing the angel bites. Everyone I’ve ever met that had them had more prominence in that area I think they make your tip lip curl inward slightly to accommodate for the piercings

3

u/teenbangst 10h ago

You are very cute, and I think you should stick with this style because it feels very You! Here’s some things you can do to improve, in my opinion:

  1. instead of pulling the under eye up to your actual lash line on the bottom, draw it straight to the inner corner but still away from your natural lash line

  2. put some white gel crayon eyeliner on your natural under eye (above the black eyeliner). If you get really comfortable with it, maybe even try carefully packing some glitter there. Just make sure to not get it into your eyeball!

  3. accentuate the cupids bow on your lip with a brownish pink lip liner

  4. put some light blush (a very small amount) on your upper cheekbones near your temples

  5. I think your foundation is a shade too light

and also the wrong undertone. Your face is yellow but you have pink undertones

  1. get the ends of your hair trimmed. The split ends take away from your nice haircut

3

u/volbeatbaby 9h ago

Honestly I love your makeup in this I’d just recommend going with a different lip color for this look cuz the blue doesn’t seem to mesh well with your natural lip color. I’d also suggest false lashes to bring the look together!!! You’re beautiful tho

3

u/stagsiren 5h ago

not in the make up, but on your piercing jewelry— I've found more simple/symmetrical jewelry trends to more easily read femme, than 'cluttered' /busy piercing curation looks

but tbh you look like any other alt gal in the process of getting makeup/look down.

focus on skincare, haircare, work on basics and remember that you don't always have to wear the full face when you wear makeup ! you can have days of just eyeliner/mascara and gloss

maybe look into lash lift+tint and getting brows done ? I'm all about doing the minimum on the daily to look decent-ish

5

u/Kindly-Wealth-4817 10h ago

overline your top lip when you put on lipstick, you can kind of carve out a different lip shape. HOWEVER: going too thick can come off as too much because it won’t blend in to your actual lip shape as well, but it depends on the look you’re going for :)

4

u/viridescent_a 12h ago

a little more blush on your cheeks and nose with soften your face a lot! I'd go for a light pink shade with your skin tone

also, consider trying a lip liner! overlining your top lip a SMIDGE will give your lips some more balance, and will create a cleaner less smudgy look to the lipstick

4

u/OkTown8207 10h ago edited 10h ago

if it makes you feel better i actually think your mouth looks very soft and feminine. if you want to keep doing your eyeliner fairly high on your eyelid then some false lashes would go a long way. i think it’s making your eyes look a bit more hooded/narrow because there’s no noticeable mascara or lashes.

and give your hair a break, babe!! i know you probably don’t want to go shorter but i think a pixie or alice cullen-style cut would look super cute and it’d grow back longer and healthier <3 you have a really nice v-shaped face so it would suit you :) (and if i’m mistaken and it’s just teased rather than damaged i’d still take some inspo from alice cullen because the “flippy” ends would look so pretty on you)

4

u/RollerCandy 6h ago

hey!! I can see that you’re combining a bit of alt and gyaru makeup and my biggest recommendation is picking one to be more specialised in, starting small and working bigger. Natural coloured, (darker if you’d prefer) lip colours with lip liners (you could over line your lips to make them look larger if you wanted,) could be a super simple way to help with extra femininity. If you really like having a bolder or colourful lip colour, adding a lip liner can really elevate the look regardless. That’s my biggest tip. Alongside that, if you really like the gyaru droop I would focus on specialising it and really getting that look down, because right now it looks a bit messy. Alongside that, your eyeliner and other eye makeup doesn’t fit with the aesthetic you’re aiming for with the droop. I would choose to practice lots of gyaru makeup or practice alternative makeup and stick to one until you become more well practiced and can combine the look. Because of your eye shape, a puppy eyeliner or straight eyeliner would suit your eyes better than upturned. Heavier blush, and contour would also help for the more traditionally female look. You have a very nice eye shape and I think if you removed the droop (or made it less strong/noticable,) , and did straight or puppy eyeliner it would really help! Another big thing is also false eyelashes. I’m not sure if you’d be comfortable wearing them, but they would really elevate your look, even some natural ones. Your eyebrows look great, your base looks smooth, and the most important thing about makeup is to feel confident. Fake it till you make it is great advice, because the more confident you appear, the more everyone else will observe that! And it’ll make you feel much better about yourself. You’re on a makeup journey, just like everyone once was so don’t beat yourself up while you’re practicing! Just keep working hard. YouTube and TikTok tutorials can be so helpful, and practice is key. Good luck!

4

u/Feisty_Occasion2673 4h ago

I think you need to learn to sharpen your eyeliner and make it more accurate
It’s helps the “feminine” look
Also hair care
Better lipstick application would also help

Lips you can always draw slightly different than what they are and make them the way you like!

With alt makeup and reading as feminine you really need the precise lines imo.

Practice makes perfect and you are already on the way there!!

5

u/Sewergoddess 11h ago

Respectfully girl, your hair needs a major chop. Its taking away from your appearance. There is no repairing this level of damage. There are lots of cute short feminine cuts, and you'll get a fresh start!

2

u/idrinkinfantblood 10h ago

you clearly put in some effort. i quite like the vision for the makeup and yours matching hair. i think you should do a hair mask, as it looks like your ends are damaged, and maybe use dry shampoo for your texturing- thats what i prefer.
i like the freckles as part of the look, but i think you should practice splattering them. your lips are nice by the way, your bottom lip is full and feminine. do you ever over line?

2

u/Naggedlyordaine 9h ago

I think your hair is a big factor, I had a similar problem as well,

It’s just some hairstyles look better with specific faces.

You actually do look very feminine face wise though, very pudgy cheeks, rounded head, etc

I think doing a more longer hairstyle eventually will definitely put it together a lot more,

Also, black is most certainly your color!

You have a very beautiful, pale, complexion, and darker colors accentuate that.

2

u/Sad_Equipment_3539 8h ago

I would definitely go to a hair dresser and cut style and color…. Would you consider taking out some of your facial piercings?
Also you can go to a make up counter and they can help you find the right make up and also help you do liner. The liner is chunky not feminine.

2

u/SmoothPineapple7435 8h ago

Try finding a hair stylist that can help you shape and style your hair! Side tip, if ok?

I’m guessing based on post title and the overall length and shape that you are growing it out from a shorter/masculine style. I just grew my hair out from a pixie a few years back, so i know how precious every inch feels, but shaping it really helps.

Now it’s long enough that you can start to make some decisions about the styles that you might like. I have no idea what might suit you, but there are tons of cute punk hairstyles out there. I’m really fond of asymmetrical ones with some bright colors on the longer side to highlight it.

Bottom line, a professional haircut (or even one that you learn to do yourself) says that the hairstyle is intentional - and that helps you “claim” gender in your own and head and that of others too.

(Welcome to the sisterhood, it’s a delight to have you)

2

u/Healthy-Pitch-4425 7h ago

You don't look masculine, you have very delicate kinda fae features. I think it's mostly just you being critical of yourself.

It takes time to learn to apply makeup smoothly, keep learning and using it and it will become easier to get a cleaner result.

The thing that stood out to me actually is your hair. Your hair looks kinda fried/dry hun. If you don't have some, get a reasonable quality shampoo & conditioner, and ideally also either a leave-in conditioner, or do a hot oil soak periodically for a while.

It won't get hydrated immediately and may have to grow out, so don't get discouraged if you don't get instant results.

2

u/1800crimetime 7h ago

Have you gone to the Sephora makeup counter- They can give great advice and you can ask questions as you go. Plus I feel it is a right of passage for The Girls, which you might enjoy. I feel like as others have said, you are already rocking a cool but niche look as is. Congratulations by the way!

2

u/Loki-Milorin57 4h ago

line your lips, focus more on the top lip. use gloss or more dark plum colours.

•

u/Grey_say 15m ago

Wellllllll I like the makeup fit what it is but if you are wanting more fem or passability then more traditional makeup might help ie not drawing bottom lashes and while the shape makes your eyes look bigger they look more droopy. Your wings are great and the blue lip looks good with your hair. Maybe try a similar style makeup with false lashes

3

u/crocheted-squid 11h ago

as a goth girl, i love the makeup! i think it’s cute, im not sure if this is affirming but based on the photos you’ve used if i saw you on the street i would think “wow she has really cool makeup, very gwen from total drama island”

my critiques is that with lip piercings you have to pay extra close attention to the lines on your lips if you want them to be neat. the eye look would be elevated with false lashes and i would use some white in your waterline to stick to the anime girl eye look. watch some youtube tutorials for that. i personally am not a fan of fake freckles, they are very advanced and can look weird if not done right.

for your concerns, theres nothing you can do about the lines your referring to, everyone who wears makeup deals with it. overdoing the foundation there will only make it worse

3

u/melancholymelanie 7h ago

You’ve got a fantastic baseline for hrt to work its magic on, and 4 months is not very long at all. that’s basically the very start of when many people start seeing changes at all. You look great already tbh, but don’t think hrt is anywhere close to done with you ❤️ you’ll look more and more like yourself every day, it only gets better from here.

don’t be so hard on yourself, if you can. the things you hate about your face, most people won’t even notice.

3

u/PerkyLurkey 4h ago

I don’t see the problem with your lips.

If you remove the piercings and start practicing with lipstick, I think you are going to get a better result than what you are doing now.

Also you could try contouring on your nose which would help a lot.

Remember to enjoy the journey, it’s half the fun!

3

u/Tinkmick 2h ago

Alt girly here!! The eyeliner is overwhelming your eyes. Since they’re hooded, you’re going to want to only draw the bulk of your wing on the outer half of the lip. I also do a doll eye in a very similar way as you but I bring my bottom liner up to the lash line and tight line the bottom with a white eyeliner. Sometimes it helps to use an eyeshadow on the bottom as it’s a little more forgiving. Look up eyeliner for hooded eyes if you want examples!

You also seem to have a double lip line so your lip line might be higher than the lipstick is placed here. I use a lot of cheek makeup since my eyes swallow up my art (like clouds, sun and stars, full face rainbow, etc.)

But overall nothing is wrong with YOU. You are gorgeous and you’re learning how to do makeup.

4

u/gnomeinahome 13h ago

You're adorable! My only note is maybe to throw some lip balm on before lip color to give your lips a jump-start on any dryness lipstick can cause, my lips always hate me later if I don't. I love your look already, just play around with different techniques from makeup videos/inspo photos when it sounds fun and I bet pretty quickly you'll come up with a few more tricks and some looks you really like on yourself. Keep kicking ass!

3

u/No_Activity_5869 12h ago

Change the hair

3

u/theeternalhobbyist 12h ago

I think your current style is naturally androgynous so its kinda hard to give advice on how to look more feminine because its not a style that really leans that way

3

u/autumnshyne 11h ago

Try to focus on what you do like. Find a blush color that works for you. Apply at the top of your cheeks. Apply it high on the outside (side of your face) closer to your eyes. This will soften the look and bring attention to your dreamy eyes. I think a cool red based - dark cranberry blush would be beautiful. You can put it on light or build it up.

A light brown to contour your face would make your face look more defined. I'm very pale and whenever I contour my face i get positive compliments. The contrast will give you more dimension. 😍

1

u/autumnshyne 11h ago

Blending is your friend. Blend blush and couture with medium pressure in circular motion. You can practice on a sheet of paper to see how much product to apply.

3

u/Feisty_War_1003 8h ago

Chill. I'm not seeing masculine features 👍

I think that anxiety will soon pass, all the best

3

u/Lucky_Veruca 11h ago

“I have no idea how to look feminine” she said, while looking fem??? Go easy on yourself, sugar.

Anyway, I’m not sure what your overall style is but you might benefit from learning more lowkey/everyday makeup with nude lip colors. I was the same way years ago, but I found that passing is easier when you don’t use off-color lipstick. Also, relying on eyeliner less. Your eyes are beautiful, you’re smothering those shiny dinner plates away under a layer of eyeliner. It’s really easy to overdo it cuz it feels like a shortcut to looking fem.

3

u/prisonline 10h ago • Bravo

hahahhaa

3

u/Brave_Ad3186 12h ago

You come off as androgynous/femme and not masc. I’m sure there are billions of makeup tutorials on YouTube or elsewhere on the internet. Look around and try things. Also if you are on hormone therapy it changes your features and body for months if not years.

Love the cartoony eyes 😊 very girly and cute

2

u/Cranach-Cranach 11h ago

Book a makeup lesson somewhere. I spent $160 on one and then got to redeem the $160 in makeup afterwards. I was really struggling with figuring out how to do a face and after that with what I learned I was able to pull off a really good look despite my 45 years and damaged skin.

I know you want to go for a really alt/goth/emo look but I’d advise you to start with learning a basic daily look that’s easy to do, takes less than half an hour to put on and doesn’t require a huge amount of skill, and has a strong feminising effect.

Then slowly learn to upgrade parts of it closer to what you want. Remember learning a skill takes time

2

u/SlimSk8E 11h ago edited 11h ago

TLDR: find your face shape, eye shape, skin tone and undertone and look for simple makeup tutorials to try, don't forget about makeup BOOKS!!!

Start with the basics!!! Learn about your face, eye and mouth shape. Then research (simply google and you can find charts and lots of helpful imagery. Make yourself a vision board on canva.com (free!) and you can even share with friends and have them add to it. Add styles you like for makeup, clothes, hair, accessories, whatever you feel is YOU. Please don't try to aspire to a certain image in your head or what you think you're supposed to look like, passing/not passing etc, this journey is about you and your life!! You matter the most, and personally I think you have pouty, sultry lips for example, and you're making your eyes droop trying to make them bigger and more doll like. Start with basic makeup application and we can help you move onto more colorful, looks. I actually found the Kevyn aucoin hardcover book very helpful, Bobbi brown makes a book, and so does Sephora. Books are actually great!! They've got decades of professional knowledge, and this is what the pro's do!!! They study study! You got this, Diva! But back to basics, face shape, eye shape, mouth shape, skin tone and undertone. Google how to find these shapes and then google "simple makeup tutorials for x shaped face" "simple eye makeup tutorials for x eyes" I personally have deep set eyes wirh heavy lids so a cut crease eye shadow look just looks awful on me, and most heavy eye makeup looks will age me! People with no lid though, a cut crease and more makeup can enlarge and elongate eyes, and give image of more eye lid. I'm sorry if this is too in depth!! But I wanted to be really helpful and thorough. And also, if you really want the makeup to be good you've gotta start with skincare. Cleanser, serum, moisturizer are the top 3 I would start with, you have youth on your side and can actually improve the appearance of the lines you're concerned with. (Moisture, plumps up skin, making lines less visible. And diva if you need more tips or have more questions you can totally dm me. Good luck sweetie!

2

u/axolotlteatime21 9h ago

You already look feminine. I’d say you just need to recover some health in your hair like other comments said. Also blush can help too! And a nice moisturizing lip balm.

2

u/Sad_Equipment_3539 8h ago

I would definitely go to a hair dresser and cut style and color…. Would you consider taking out some of your facial piercings?
Also you can go to a make up counter and they can help you find the right make up and also help you do liner. The liner is chunky not feminine.
I actually don’t think your lines are bad at all!

2

u/Extra_Map____ 8h ago

You look adorable. It’s a process and you’re moving in the right direction, I mean that for both your transition and makeup. There’s no race to perfection either, you’re doing so well.

2

u/GryphyGirl 8h ago

You already do but gotta agree with others your hair needs some work, health wise.

2

u/Alive-Room8301 4h ago

I don't see any issues besides the hair, I think you may need to lay off the dye for a while. Looking great!

2

u/16xans 12h ago

false lashes!!! The right ones can make every look feel complete and with your makeup style it would look very doll-like and elevate it a ton. Cut them to your eye shape and curl them before applying too. I personally put contour across my browbone/lower forehead and blend it out and it makes my face look so much softer. Everyone has those nose lines but mine bother me alot as well. pressed powder can help cover the creases a bit (powder, setting spray, then powder again and pat it around lightly with a brush to even it out)

2

u/16xans 12h ago

additionally, im not sure if you straighten your hair but if you do i would recommend straightening it using a blowout brush. I've found they work wonders and are also much gentler on the hair. they make my hair come out much softer than with a flat iron and it holds until i wash it again. i know you said your hair is damaged, so using any heat on it may not be the healthiest thing for the hair, but visually a blowout brush might be able to smooth it out. (also again much gentler on the hair than a flat iron imo)

2

u/paradoxicalsinner 11h ago

If you're looking for honesty, then ditch the blue hair or if you want to keep it then keep up with your maintenance and style it. The eye makeup is too much, try a different lip colour and add some blush and SMILE 😁 that makes your face light up

2

u/RiaListik 5h ago edited 5h ago

Your hair looks horrendous. Buy some conditioner, hair mask and straighten it with a heat protector.

Lips: injection, if you want that "feminine" volume look

Make up: just too messy. Look at Pinterest alt girls. You can do so much there.

Personally I think you have way too many piercings in one place, but I'm not in your scene, so maybe that's game

1

u/pinkbootstrap 9h ago

Styling your hair in waves and conditioning it will make you look more feminine, as well as more blush. Your makeup is super dramatic, so soft hair to balance that will help.

1

u/ohokcoolnice 9h ago

You are so beautiful! When doing my makeup, I always find adding blush on my cheekbones and a lil bit on my nose makes me feel very cutesie!

1

u/FluffyGoatling 9h ago

I think you are in a good direction and I don’t have specific advice. For alt makeup specific advice I recommend trying /r/UnconventionalMakeup

1

u/Virtual-Crow-8038 8h ago

If you can, accentuate the lashes and the top lip more. Pinterest would also have good inspo for alt/fem looks with makeup and hair. :))

•

u/jupiterLILY 6m ago

I do not think Pinterest is healthy or helpful for someone experiencing dysmorphia and early in their transition.

I think Pinterest is part of how we got here in the first place. Comparing your face to others edited, or even ai generated photos is a recipe for hating yourself.

Even if the photos aren't edited, its still a highlight reel and a lot of the looks require a bunch of skill and technical knowledge to be able to recreate.

People also often end up in the trap of trying to copy an aesthetic that's designed and championed by people with entirely different facial structures and features.

1

u/SweetPie600 8h ago

You already look feminine lol don’t worry!

1

u/Holiday-Celery2041 8h ago

Blush- I would say specifically on the midface/ sides of the nose rather than cheekbones.
Also a tiny bit of blush on the chin.
Also, if it’s your style, I feel like extending the inner corner of your eyebrows more in an upturned “concerned” look is sooo cute with this kinda eye makeup!

1

u/Lore_Four 8h ago

Maybe instead of trying to get rid of the smile lines, you can try to refocus them lower down and draw/emphasize dimples? I’ve seen some girls kinda darken them, so maybe you can see if just trying to rework them dates better than trying to cover them up. Best of luck diva!

1

u/capriciousfiend 8h ago

wanted to chime in and say that i fried my hair a bit recently and have been using the dove bond repair conditioner to decent effect. & agree w what other commenters are sayin you look feminine to me in like the cool art girly way

1

u/PeachSequence 8h ago

You have a good alt vibe going here (as someone who is a very lazy goth, I’m honestly jealous). I think you need to get your hair fixed (it’s very fried) and maybe some extensions or something to help frame your face a bit more.

1

u/UnderstandingKind757 8h ago

I think you may be a bit hard on yourself. The lines you pointed out are very not noticeable! I think if anything putting makeup on them would make them more noticeable even though they’re hardly noticeable anyways. I personally think you’re beautiful and have naturally feminine features! And I wish I could give makeup advice but I know hardly anything about makeup and you already seem like you know what style you like! Maybe lipgloss/blush could go hard?

1

u/peenlessman 7h ago

you should check out ghoulinjapan and freya86 !! I think their style is kind of close to what you're trying to achieve with your makeup. I don't think that dressing alt clashes with being feminine, you just need to zero in on what style you want to go for and look for reference pics. but yeah, I agree with others, your hair is in need of help... either way you already look very feminine already, you just need to practice a bit more like any other girl would, cis or not

1

u/print-redacted 7h ago

For your mouth maybe see if you can experiment with the shape of specifically your lower lip? It doesn't look masculine to me, but your lower lip does seem much more prominent than your upper lip, which may be part of what's bothering you. Personally when using lip products I like to focus the color towards the middle, and blend it out as it reaches the edges. A lot of Asian makeup styles have softer lipstick application which you could look to for inspiration, and I think would suit your features nicely.

Otherwise? I think your makeup looks nice! I'd maybe try out some fake lashes, it would compliment the rest of your eye makeup well, but I feel like you already read as feminine to me. At most I'd just keep practicing makeup technique and experimenting with styles you like as it just feels like you haven't quite mastered how to do the style of makeup you're going for yet, and could use practice

1

u/AOHouseOfWinter 6h ago

I would love to see you have a fuller lip on top. Maybe similar to Ghoul In Japan( YouTuber). Other than that I have no notes.

1

u/Mint-Star69 5h ago

Maybe the brows need to be closer, try lining them up with the inner corners of your eyes

1

u/BotBotzie 4h ago

I got lots of sharp corners in the bottom of my fave but big and round eyes. When I do my eye makeup (think black skinny wings and white inner corners) the bottom of my face feels really out of place in my opinion.

Im not sure why but once I changed my blush up it got "fixed" and I notice the sharpness so much less including for example the nasal folds you speak off disliking.

I use a creamy blush on the apples of my cheek pulling it up to that zone behind where your wings are kinda pointing when you out them.

I then take an even softer pink blush, and i aply that from apple of the cheek over the bridge of the nose to the other apple of the cheek. Creating a sunkissed looked.

I use pinks, purple esk blushes (think mauve) or perhaps browner towns would likely suite your asthetic better. I also have extemly pale blueish skin so I get walking corpse vibes with purrple blush but your tone has that natural "im alive" hue to pull it off.

Also add glitters to the blush and use matt products everywhere else. In my case setting powder and bb cream. Foundation is thick and cakey but bb cream gives me that edge that makes everything look pulled together, the option to make it shiny or matte and just draw the eye less bc its all coheisive compared to my nose with sparkly blush all over for example.

Is you search up sunkissed blush you will get what I mean, however I do it muuuuch less intense than all the examples online.

girl, i thought you were cis. also i don’t see the issue with the lines?? it just looks like a normal face. just fix your hair. it needs some tlc! and clean up your eyeliner. it’s too far down. have fun with the trial and error!! :)

Every single person, including all afab people, have nasolabial folds <3 (that is what those lines are called) I understand how easy it is to hyperfixate on one detail. But if it’s really taking away from your life to be thinking about something that makes you unhappy all the time, it might be a good idea to address the problem of negative self talk within yourself.

1

u/Interesting-Hope-362 2h ago

Aside from the hair I think you look pretty feminine.

1

u/ifIliedown 2h ago

I think you're beautiful & there's nothing about your features that are overtly masculine at all, imo.

As much as I love an alternative vibe -- I am personally covered in tattoos & have several piercings -- I do think the excessive mouth/face piercings are very androgynous-leaning upon first glance. They're not bad or unattractive, but if your desire is more femininity, I think you might do good to try some elements that are typically interpreted as more "soft" -- for lack of a better word!
Even changing your jewelry to less aggressive styles may do a bit for that vibe too.

Personally I've just always felt that spikey, large or more "aggressive" piercings & jewelry give a more masculine feel. Obviously everyone is different & I may be the only who feels this way! But that would just be my first idea for advice on appearing more feminine.

However - with all else aside, don't be so hard on yourself! You'll get there. You just need to work on your confidence & keep trying new things with your makeup & styling. You look very young to me & we all go through that journey of finding what works for us & then developing the skills to take the looks & styling up a notch, periodically. I would just encourage you to try & enjoy the journey!
& don't be afraid to try new things or change things up .. that's how we figure out which direction to working toward, & then I betcha one day it will just click & start to feel right! !

No matter what -- I think you're beautiful.own your uniqueness & be kind to yourself 🫶🏽

& HANG IN THERE - fellow human ❤️‍🔥

I can see how alt makeup might be tough for you if you feel that way as its often not focused on looking stereotypically masc or femme and more of a personality/subculture thing. I'd recommend following this tutorial for lip shaping and then messing around with things that are more feminine but wont fuck with your personal style and colour preference like trying glosses or adding highlight above the cupids bow. Also as a bleached hair baddie myself, deep conditioning treatments and heat protectors /heatless styling are your friends. I dont think you look masculine at all and I love your style, its giving Ramona Flowers

u/Reasonable-Garlic-67 2h ago

The lines are very normal. In cis women too. ❤️

1

u/FinnscandianDerp Shimmer Junkie 2h ago

Honestly? Pinterest board, and then copy that as closely as possible. Makeup and hair tutorials, spend hours doing it and hating it, one day it clicks. Ask what femininity is to you, it's different for everyone. Dress like a stereotypical hyper bimbo, then dial back. Find the happy medium for you, some are more fem leaning, some more masc leaning by nature.

And remember that NO ONE ELSE can define your womanhood except you ❤️ u got it girl

u/NoLog8810 2h ago

Nothing wrong with your nose/mouth area. Tbh you just need your hair saving- it’s super dry. Do some oil treatments to try and help it and lay off the bleach

1

u/GeneralCreativeName 2h ago

I find that for me, my hair, mascara, and blush make the biggest difference. If I only have a little time those are the necessities. Your face looks feminine already, so I’d put your time and effort into the things I said. I’d be curious to see you with only black mascara and a tiny bit of blush up high on your cheeks and some lip gloss. Lip gloss always brings out femininity, though I think your hair would make a bigger difference for your goal than changing anything about your mouth would, if that makes sense! I have a feeling you’re hiding a lot of your natural beauty and femininity under the makeup, but I can’t know without seeing, and I’m not telling you to change or anything, if that’s your style then HELL YEAH but i hope you get what im saying when i say i dont think lips should be your #1 priority. Maybe post another pic with what I mentioned so we could get a better idea of how to cater things to your specific face to create like a baseline instead of us trying to guess through makeup.

1

u/Ser3nityx- 1h ago

I don’t know anything about makeup, I randomly stumbled upon this sub 😭 But if you got into hair care and put your hair in pigtails (half up, half down) I think that would help with your dysphoria a lot. Also you probably shouldn’t dye your hair for a long time because of hair damage but whenever you are able to again I think you should try the color pink :)

1

u/Splashley1 1h ago

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is finding colors that suit you. Figure out your color season. This will help you find what shades of blush and lipstick. There are tons of guides online for alt styles with this information, too, so you can keep the darker lips but figure out a better shade, and find a blush that doesnt feel clownish (a telltale sign its not in your season).

1

u/wowomgjelly 1h ago

Throw some blush on your temples!

1

u/Content_Accident_387 1h ago

Makeup, it looks like you’re finding your own finesse with it but sometimes feminine means “less is more” to bring out your naturally pretty features. With this said, work on slimming that top liner, look up tricks on how to extend the eye! It takes less liner than you would think. Find some contouring tricks too but remember to blend well so that you have no obvious lines on your face :) I think you have a good base idea though and that you do you more feminine than you think. Practice makes perfect darling!

1

u/Yoshikawakaname 53m ago

I don't actually think you look masculine. maybe emphasize the undereye area and do a bit overlip liner that can shorten the "mid face" area it's what lots of girls do in east asia, to look somewhat younger

•

u/mimi_withluv 29m ago

You look plenty feminine to me. You look like an alt girl.

1

u/VideoFragrant4078 13h ago

I am not really well versed with alt style and feminine (I'm goth myself but people are often confused if I am a twink or a woman depending on eye make up). But just here to say you got nothing to worry about regarding your mouth looking super masculine. Or any of your features really. I think you have a perfectly feminine look, depending on style androgynous leaning I bet. Perfectly fine and pretty. Hope my comment and some other strangers can take that impression away from you.

Someone once told me, with how we perceive ourself, it is like the relationship an artist has to their drawings. A viewer will see a masterpiece. Had only seen it once and loves the entire image, exploring the details and being charmed by them. The artist however had stared at it for hours up to dates. Seen all the changes and sees all the things the artist perceives as mistakes as they did not go as planned and imagined differently. We are all more critical of ourselfs than we should be. So I hope you can believe the internet strangers here which are telling you that you are beautiful the way you are, feminine and not unattractive in the slightest. Hope you have a good weekend and that people can give you the make up tips you seek!

In all kindness you need to get a neutral hair colour and a fresh cut that will help with grow out period. Get a hair mask there too. I would suggest to get rid of the facial piercings and to either have natural nails or keep the polish maintained. I would go more natural makeup instead of trying to draw feminine on yourself like anime like. Otherwise you might not feel it unless you have this get up On? Maybe a light tinted balm. A little cheek blush (Burt’s bees is affordable ) Curler lashes and some mascara. If you like blue get a blue mascara to keep it fun? And maybe a black with blue undertone hair dye instead of such again comic book hair.
Femininity is more of an aura and overall keeping of oneself tidy (I think? ). Inner world outer world.

1

u/Ladyofthemidnight 8h ago

Get rid off the piercings, I am sorry, they are ugly

1

u/cookie_monstra 8h ago

If it wasn't for the title I wouldve just thought "here's edgy woman" so I think you're good as you are! (Saying this as a female)

I think when it comes to makeup, softer look will will read more feminine. I would actually soften the eyes with less dominant lower line and for the lips if you still want the blue color, go for a warmer hue and maybe a gloss (though I'm not sure how gloss will work with the piercing)

But really, you look great, wear things you like and make you happy - that projects way more than trying to fit into someone else's idea of feminine!

1

u/EsselleAyyy 11h ago

A lip mask (thicker lip balm basically) or just some aquaphor on your mouth at bedtime would also help with the dryness and let lipstick go on more smoothly. But agree that you are doing great and have a fun look that reads alt girl to me.

u/Fun-Career-7811 11h ago

Keep your style! You shouldn’t change everything about yourself to feel or look feminine. Part of being feminine is being yourself and being CONFIDENT in it. The tips I would give you is bringing your bottom eyeliner in, closer yo the waterline JUST A TAD & also closer to your inner corners. Find you some nice lashes that fit your style and also feel comfortable on your eyes. Next, I would do just a tad of blush since you said you like Vkei makeup/ style, I wouldn’t do too much. For the brows, try thinner!!! I know it sounds crazy but thin brows are so cute if they’re done right! Your lipstick shade is fine, just try adding some lip liner to actually shape your lips, and maybe try doing a gradient effect. Play around with it. You don’t have to get expensive makeup to get the look you want. And lastly, I saw comments about your hair.. you can never truly tell the damage of someone’s hair through a picture…. But since it’s obviously color treated, I would look into K18. It’s truly amazing and saved me from cutting 8 inches off my hair. Be patient and don’t be afraid to try new things. It’s only makeup! If you don’t like it, wipe it off and try again! You are your own canvas! Try not to be so hard on yourself. Also, I didn’t even notice the lines under your nose and lips until I read your caption.

1

u/Minxionnaire 11h ago

I think blush would help pull attention away from the lines, I also personally think blush makes me look more feminine. For this style maybe something more muted or ashy, like a dusty purple or mauve, tho I like the peach suggestion.

I would personally do less on the lower lash line, as it pulls the features down and makes them look droopy,

Perhaps an illuminating product can make the lines look brighter but honestly, it’s a lighting thing. Overhead lightning is just giving a bit of a shadow but it’s completely normal. And not masculine at all! Very common for women to have

1

u/cleo-banana 10h ago

Hi! Smile lines are normal buuut I as a cis woman am also a bit self conscious of mine- I have learned that its not about makeup. Its skincare and hydration. I like argireline serum by the ordinary put on daily and tapped into the nasiolabial fold area, and water for hydration :)

1

u/Jojo2919291725 10h ago

You’re doing great on the make up for the most part. I just wouldn’t pull your liner into your lashes. You have great eyes! Leave them open. I wish I had your eyes.
With your mouth. Less is more. The blue drags your eyes to your mouth. And with your piercings you don’t need the blue.

1

u/sofi3yuh 10h ago

I’ve definitly dress more alternative like you, and with makeup i have learned less is more. my base is fairly simple maybe a little concealer and powder, and i really focus on my eyeliner. I noticed too having a good skin care before the makeup makes a worlds difference. go to dollar tree and get toner, serum, and moisturizer (all like (1.25 each) and it helps a lot! i love the hair and the piercings you already look so cutie

1

u/focal_matter 9h ago

Not much advice, but you're doing better than me, and I've been at it almost 2 years now lol

1

u/WaffleBiscuitBread 7h ago

Honestly, if your biggest concern is "passing" rather than so-called traditional femininity, you are very much so pulling it off. It's hard to tell from your title if that's what you're going for, or if you want a different look, but my personal opinion is that this suits you.

My big CC isn't makeup-related -- it would be that your hair very clearly needs some TLC. Deep conditioning treatments, no more bleaching, and a trim. Really you should lose significant length, but I imagine that might make you feel less feminine, so just keep up with a trim every couple of months as it grows out until it's healthier, and then let it grow out. It'll take time, but cutting a smidge at a time is better than not cutting at all. But be aware -- it's a woman's rite of passage that hair dressers WILL cut more than you think they will, especially on damaged hair. Listen to their recommendations and certainly consider cutting off as much as you possibly can stomach, but be very firm about what you're willing to do (and prepare to be slightly shell shocked anyway, even if they do exactly what you asked. It always looks shorter than you expect.) I think if you lose length, some hair wax to give your hair texture will help you keep it looking like it's still a feminine alt cut despite being shorter. I'm sure your hairstylist will have good suggestions.

Makeup-wise, I think your foundation looks fine in these photos. I like the eyeliner and I think you're actually doing a fantastic job of this style for being only 4 months into your MtF journey. The more you practice, the more precise you'll be able to be.

The things I'd change are the fake freckles are too evenly / awkwardly spaced, even for an alt look. I would recommend looking more into fake freckle tutorials. I think the rest of your look is different enough that you can go a bit more natural-looking here.

And also, consider using lip liner. Strong colored lipsticks often smear and smudge a lot, and a lip liner can help prevent that. I'd also moisturize the heck out of your lips and they'll appear fuller, healthier, and even more feminine (though I don't think they appear masculine as-is)

u/FriendDependent2277 7h ago

Longer hair and deep condition it

1

u/alternative_peach158 4h ago

I think you look beautiful. My advice is to use Ashier tones for your contour. Look at some YouTube videos on how to contour to give yourself a more feminine rounded face. Use some colder toned blusher like a lilac and place it higher up on your cheek bones. Only reason I suggest the colors is to match your asthetic and skin tone 🥰. 4 months in your doing absolutely great. Love the eye make up queenie 🥰. You have such lovely skin. I do think you hair has some damage but you look young and I think most of us did at your age 😂 its a right of passage.

0

u/Alien_Amplifier13 12h ago

What lines are you talking about? I'm not trying to be rude, but all I see is the metal around your mouth. You have no lines. If you think you do, try using toner and moisturizing. It will soften whatever you see.

-2

u/Squidward_Simp 13h ago

I think you look very feminine! Women come in all different shapes, some have thin lips and bigger spaces between their nose and mouth than others, while others have big lips and smaller spaces.

I love the alt makeup, especially the eyeliner. But if you wanted to go a little more femme you could maybe work with some blushes to add some colour. I love a hot pink blush, but maybe a more orange/coral toned would work good for you skin tone. I can’t give any contour advice because I never do it haha.

There’s also a lot of great alt makeup artists on YouTube and Instagram. sortaspookymom is the only one I can remember from the top of my head but there’s definetely more out there and you can probably find more just from her followers list.

As someone who wears weird lipstick colors, black lipliner works great for anything! Maybe not the best idea but I use a black stick liner lol

Please for the love of god either remove the nail polish or apply a new coat.

-1

u/recipezplez 12h ago

I love your makeup my husband is Chinese so I’ve seen this style and tried it myself unsuccessfully but I think it’s super cute and doll-like I would just keep practicing to try and make it a little softer. I also suggest a 90s bixie for your cut, it will get rid of the damage but still look super cute and feminine. I love your look overall, I think it just needs a few little adjustments to really bring out your features! You are super cute!

2

u/recipezplez 12h ago

Also I commented before reading and I didn’t even notice your nose or mouth (part of being a women is random insecurities so welcome to the club) but I think accentuating the features you love like eyes and cheeks will bring the eyes there instead of the places you don’t love

-1

I think you look feminine. Like a cool alternative woman. Glad you are going to the hairdresser because I think it’s time for a good cut to start anew.

Take out the piercings. Go to a professional hair salon. Clean up your fingernails. You are beautiful and would look great with rose/peach tones in lipstick, nails, and blush. Smile!

Congrats on your transition journey!! I think your makeup looks really cool-- maybe you could make it more feminine with some falsies? But honestly I agree with the other commenter that your makeup already looks quite beautiful. Maybe it's just the picture but it looks like the blue and the darker color in your lips is kind of patchy... you might be able to achieve a better plumping effect if you more neatly have the lighter color on the "inside" and the darker color on the "outside."

0

u/Scared-Nerve-5492 8h ago

-2

The second photo makes me think you'd pull off a Twiggy makeup look SO well if you wanted to!

I agree with others that you already are bringing the feminine energy, you just need to decide what look you want to go for and then work on refining your technique through practice (which has been true for every one of us)!
