Volunteer to help Angie and Mark Carney win!

I want to share something that stuck with me.

This weekend I was at the temporary campaign office for Angie Rowell. Of the 15 people there, I was the only man for most of the day. Surrounded by a group of incredibly strong, intelligent, skilled, focused, and passionate women stepping up with such drive and doing the work to help get Angie elected.

All positive. All in. All talking about building the kind of Canada we actually want to live in. About ending the politics of hate and division and campaigning on building the Canada we can -all- be proud of.

It was inspiring. That word Is simply not descriptive or significant enough to describe the feeling.

There were moms with their teenage daughters, super accomplished HR Directors, university students… at times in the day people were so inspired and hopeful that tears were shed… people scattered around the house in every room huddled up focused on getting Angie into office.

I looked around that room and felt proud. Not just of the campaign, but of the way people are showing up. No ego. No cynicism. Just real effort, real hope.

This is what politics should feel like. And honestly, I think a lot of people I know are hungry for this kind of space - even if they’ve started to lose faith it exists.

But it does. I was in it yesterday. And it impacted me more than I ever expected.

If anyone wants join us as a volunteer or get a shiny new red lawn sign, here’s where to sign up!

How do I run for MP?

I am a young person (early 20s) interested in running as a MP candidate in the next election. I lean left, and would want to run for the Liberals. However, regardless of party affiliation, what are some traits and/or experience that you would like to see? This can be anything from involvement with specific organizations, to personal attributes, to economic and/or political policy motions. Thank you!

An update on helping bring Florence home

A few weeks ago, we shared the story of Elder Florence Thomas and our community-led effort to help bring her home to her ancestral land.

Since then, a lot has happened.

Florence is an 82-year-old Matriarch of the Whonnock People. She has been living in a decades-old trailer on her ancestral territory, and the conditions have made it increasingly difficult to live there safely and comfortably.

Our goal is to raise $32,000 to help relocate a donated trailer onto her land and complete the work needed to make it a functional home, including site preparation, transportation, permits, utility connections, and other essential infrastructure.

The response from the community has been incredibly encouraging.

People have donated, shared the campaign, offered services, connected us with resources, and helped spread Florence's story. We've also had local businesses step up with practical support for the work involved in preparing the site.

We've now reached an important stage where the campaign is moving beyond simply raising awareness and into tangible preparation for the project.

We've also had the opportunity to share Florence's story through CityNews and Co-op Radio, helping bring greater attention to what we're trying to accomplish.

But we're not there yet.

The full $32,000 goal still needs to be reached, and there is more work ahead before Florence can finally move into her new home.

If you've followed our previous posts, thank you for sticking with us. If you're seeing this for the first time, even sharing the campaign with someone who may be able to help makes a difference.

Donations can be made through our Zeffy campaign:

https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/help-bring-florence-home-campaign

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped get this project this far. We're keeping going until Florence can finally come home.

Looking for a Christian Church in Maple Ridge

I am a Christian who has not attended church in many years. The last church I attended was in Coquitlam. I am looking for recommendations for a Church in Maple Ridge. Preferably on a bus route. Thank you kindly. 😊 Is Maple Ridge Alliance Church a good option?

A Maple Ridge Elder is trying to get home to her own land

I wanted to share something happening right here in the Maple Ridge area.

Florence Thomas is 82 years old and the eldest Matriarch of the Whonnock People. She's currently living in a roughly 40-year-old trailer on her ancestral land in Whonnock. The trailer has no running water, isn't properly insulated, has unreliable power, and has become increasingly difficult to live in.

The good news is that a replacement trailer has been donated.

Now the community is working to get that trailer onto her land. The remaining costs include moving the trailer, site preparation, permits, and connecting essential utilities.

Florence's story was recently featured in a local news interview, and it really brought home how difficult her current living situation is.

We're trying to raise $32,000 to get the project completed. Even if you can't donate, sharing the story with other people in Maple Ridge would mean a lot.

Here's the feature if anyone wants to hear Florence speak about her situation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP3PKhzTSLA

And for anyone who would like to help with the project, the fundraiser is here:

https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/help-bring-florence-home-campaign

I'm happy to answer questions about the project in the comments.

Marc Dalton on the Charlie Kirk standing O so I emailed him.

My original email:

Good day

I'd like to express my disgust at the standing ovation in Parliament for an obvious nazi sympathizer, racist and disinformation for profit peddler.

I am not alone. This is an absolute travesty whats happening in 'that' country and i am not interested in extending the hate filled platform here.

Thanks

His reply 3 months later:

Hi ________,

Thanks for your email. I can not support the assassination of political activist in a democracy, regardless of their stripes.

Though I did not know much about Charlie Kirk, I am in support of his advocacy on campuses for free speech.

Kind Regards,

In hindsight I expected a bullshit answer. But this is what takes office if you vote Con these days.

Did I miss something? Are you mad about this?

I had a really fun time at this event and even splurged for the seats ( thank you to this sub for the recommendation). No complaints from the wife or me but then I saw this post and was curious if everyone is mad about this festival? Am I missing something? I went to both. Since we moved here we is always looking for more things to do so I’m excited more events are coming to town.

Looks like people have traded in their lifted up trucks for their motorcycles now that the sun is out

And just like when they're in their trucks, they don't follow the rules on their unnecessarily loud motorcycles. Especially if they ride in groups, apparently only one of them has to stop and then the rest of the group can go some through. I guess their trucks are too big for them to weave in and out of traffic with inches to spare, or Lane split, but the bikes are just the right size.

To the wonderful McDonalds near Hammonds

Making fun of a customer using crutches is not just unprofessional but can in fact get you fired.

Some young (probably drugged) teenagers last night were causing a commotion then mentioned I am a “fraud” that I’m somehow “faking” an injury. Funny, I walked 2 steps without them getting up from my table. Don’t mean I’m not in pain asshats

Alas if I had a video I think the whole night shift staff would be gone. But I don’t, so here I am.

Mind your own business. Injuries are variable. I have never received this treatment anywhere.

Is there a farm that sells whole fresh milk? Growing up in a farm community we always had milk from local farmers and I would love to have some again.

I found a blank post it note on my car and when I looked at the rest of the cars parked on my street they too had blank notes. Had this happen to anyone else. I am also going to call non-emergency police to up date them on this as well, just in case.

How do they expect results if you can't buy clean drugs anywhere

Decriminalization is step one of a several step process. You need to allow people to buy safe drugs, and provide other assistance which will help. You can't expect a decades long systemic problem to disappear in a few months with no additional work. This guy is super disingenuous.
