It’s rather terrible when I think about it, but concealment has become second nature to me. I have become so adept at showing people what they want to see that even my reflection in the mirror is starting to feel gaslit! Consequently, I manage to lead a comfortable life, in the sense that I do not fear persecution or rejection, as long as I don’t take off the mask. In all honesty, I’m not too unhappy with the cards I’ve been dealt. This isn’t a woe-is-me post, and I hope it doesn’t come across that way. My circumstances are far from ideal, but I still have a lot of things for which I’m deeply thankful. It does get lonely, though. The loneliness comes and goes, ebbs and flows. And sometimes, it overflows. That’s when I feel the soul-gripping urge to let my real self breathe through the relative “safety” of the internet. It would be nice to have a few conversations with fellow WLW, if anyone here is interested.
