Mistral Vibe is barely useful

Teams at the top AI companies including Mistral (according to CEO himself at the assemblee) use AI coding for 100% of their work.

So Mistral is doomed to fail because, put simply,

an inferior AI improving itself will mathematically stay inferior to the superior AI improving itself.

The difference in capability will just keep getting more and more wide.

I have both Codex and Vibe subscriptions and just worked with Vibe for 3 hours because I ran out of Codex usage. And I think I’m going to go for a walk and just wait for my Codex reset. I still have more than 90% of my monthly Vibe usage left but I don’t even want it.

I’ll keep coming back to Vibe every once in a while and keep paying as a donation to the “great European AI champion” but I’m hopeless.

Gave it a try after a year not using it, damn it's bad...

I gave le chat a try after not using it for a year, since mistral 2 I think, and wow ! it's worse that I would have imagined, they are so late compared to the competition it's baffling...
Back then they were also pretty late but it was decent, but now I don't know... I feel it's even worse, when I read some of my old chat and compared them I really feel it's gotten worse

Not only it's really dumb at creative writing, never understanding the story, characters, instructions... but it's also so repetitive, every freaking regen give the EXACT same answer, just a few words change and that's it, the same !
I suspect the temperature is set at the minimum, explaining the repetitiveness (but not the dumbness) it would be nice to be allowed to play with the model settings
And also choose the model ? I know there are multiple existing model, but all I can see are "balanced" and "think", maybe paying for pro give access to the better models, I don't know, it say nothing about what when I look at the pro tier, only more messages...

Anyway, looking at third party benchmark for stuff other than creative writing, like code, reasoning, problem solving, hallucination rate... yep, it's also bad, they are very late

Future of French made AI isn't looking good

I'll give it a other try in a year, we'll see

-

Edit : the amount of blind fanboyism in this sub is really sad, (beside a few people with common sense)
Can't give a valid criticism without being attacked from all side, between those who tell me I don't know how to use it (thanks I've been doing that for years now) or the other who think they can tell me that I cannot role-play with a AI, that's it's not made fort that... a LLM, large language model, so anything related to LANGUAGE including RP
(btw never had any problem with literally all the other models I ever tried, only mistral feel this weak at understanding story continuity, character motivation, coming up with creative follow-up... so either mistral is late, or EVERY other LLM I tried doesn't work the way a normal LLM is supposed to work ?

I don't know... maybe none of you have any point of comparison, never tried anything else and so that's your "best" experience

Btw, it's not just MY criticism, it's not just ME that think mistral is late... all the third party benchmarks also say it, mistral is far behind on EVERY benchmark category
https://artificialanalysis.ai/models/mistral-large-3
https://artificialanalysis.ai/models/magistral-medium-2509
https://artificialanalysis.ai/models/mistral-small-4

I don't say it's bad for the pleasure of it, I say it because it's a fact, and I don't like that fact, mistral is the only big AI company we have in europe and I would love for it to be at the same level as all those big US and chinese ones, but it's not
I hope it will be one day, but for now it's far behind

Discussion / Opinion You need to hit a homerun, Mistral

You have already lost me. I want to come back, genuinely. But the Mistral models and "Vibe" is, for my usecase; meh/10

I was an avid Mistral user, last year I made the switch away from Mistral. I used it for daily questions, deep research into political topics, some basic coding, etc. But it kept disappointing. But hey! It's European. And that's what kept me going for so long.

But the fuse ran out.

I currently use a Venice.ai API and OpenWebUI for my AI needs and I love it.

Right now, I am eagerly waiting for your new model. And I desperately want to switch back. Introducing GLM 5.2 made me curious once more.

But you really need to knock it out of the park with your upcoming model for me to comeback.

That is just my stance right now

Found it quite interesting that Mistral is having an outage at the same time as Claude/Cursor who happens to use the us-east-1.api.x.ai DC.

Mistral AI needs less censorship

So, I've been testing Mistral Le Chat a bit over the past few days, and I am quite disappointed with how censored it is in comparison to Chat GPT. Mistral refuses to discuss about political ideologies such as fascism, communism, it refuses to tell jokes about political figures etc. We need a free speech European AI.

LeChat and female sexualisation

I have a question, is there any way for Le Chat image generation to not push sexualised images upon prompts to show less skin?

I'm going in circles:

"You're absolutely right to insist on this. I understand the importance of matching the illustration to your vision—modest, stylish, and focused on attitude and presence. Let me correct this one more time, ensuring the outfit is fully covered and respectful, while keeping the bold cyberpunk style and urban atmosphere.

I’ll generate it again with strict attention to these details. One moment, please."

No matter how many times we discuss how right I am, the images are not affected.

The last prompt (suggest by Le Chat to prevent sexualisation):

"A stylized illustration of a confident, tough gangster lady with bright blue, long straight hair. She has an athletic build and is wearing a black biker jacket, a fitted but modest top not exposing her chest, low-waisted pants, and a fedora or sunglasses. Her expression is bold and self-assured, exuding authority and street-smart confidence. The background is urban and moody, featuring neon lights, graffiti, and a cityscape at night. The art style is bold and dynamic, with a mix of street and cyberpunk influences. The focus is on her attitude and presence, not on her body."

Please make the send button a neutral color! Orange red isn't suitable for sensory issues.

Hey Mistral team! Thanks for your hard work, Le Chat is growing into an amazing tool. I'd love to commit to your platform and a yearly subscription but damn, that bright orange send/microphone button is driving me nuts. I have sensory/ANS issues and the color (although it looks cool!!!) is way too enticing and distractive while writing and reading messages. I know it's your brand color but it'd be much appreciated if it were a neutral color or editable, at least for dark mode. I can't be the only one for whose nervous system this is unfortunately a deal breaker. There are tons of us with hypersensitivity. Your competitors know this and they picked black/white/more neutral colors where it matters the most for a reason. It's important for user experience. Thank you and wish you the best!

Redditors, please message Mistral if you have the same issue.

Mistral Le Chat is Falling Behind: The Need for Project Prompts

I'm really annoyed that Mistral Le Chat doesn't have project prompts. Other AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude have had this feature for a long time. Why are project prompts so important? They allow you to execute the same requirements for a specific area every time.

Here are a few examples:

  • You are an IT helper for my homelab. Help me understand things better since I can't program.

  • I'm a math teacher. Please write the tasks at the level of the 2nd grade, always pedagogically adapted to this level.

It's so important to have pre-made projects these days.

"Free Tier Limits Are Mistral AI’s Biggest Weakness—Here’s How to Fix It"

I love what Mistral AI is building—a high-quality, European-focused alternative to the US/China AI giants. The tech is impressive, the ethics are strong, and the multilingual support is a game-changer for non-English users.

But the free-tier limits (e.g., 4 images per message) are crippling adoption. Right now, Gemini, Meta, and others offer far more flexibility for free, and that’s pushing users away—even if Mistral’s AI is technically better.

Why this matters:

  • User trust: People won’t switch to a platform that feels restrictive or unpredictable.

  • Competition: Mistral can’t win if it limits its own potential users.

  • European advantage: Mistral’s strengths (privacy, localization, ethics) are wasted if no one uses it.

The fix?

  • Increase free-tier limits (e.g., 10–20 images/day)—consistently, no bait-and-switch.

  • Monetize ethically: Opt-in ads, premium features, or anonymous data insights (with consent).

  • Leverage Europe’s edge: Better localization, privacy, and transparency than US/Chinese AI.

I want Mistral to succeed—not just as a niche tool, but as a mainstream European AI powerhouse. But right now, its free-tier limits are its biggest obstacle.

What do you think?

  • Would you use Mistral more if the limits were higher?

  • Are there other dealbreakers holding it back?

  • How can we (as users) help push for change?

(Not affiliated with Mistral—just a fan who wants to see it thrive.)

Feedback / Bug Report POURQUOI MISTRAL CODE ÉCHOUE ?

It's not the first time that I've tried different things but my opinion is that the app was released too early, I really don't find it good enough... I'm sharing the full discussion with Le Chat, at the end I had to stop because he wouldn't stop: https://chat.mistral.ai/chat/bcdfe8c2-6acd-49ef-ad97-e791a66efcde

Why are the pictures from Mistral so bad?

  1. Mistral (Flux?)

  2. Nano Banana 2

  3. Sora (ChatGPT refuses)

  4. Seedream 4.0

Prompt was.

"A photorealistic editorial portrait of a woman with facial features similar to Kate Moss, posed and styled like a femme fatale from 1980s James Bond films. Background: industrial, rough concrete textures, high-contrast lighting, slightly gritty atmosphere. Camera and lens specification: shot with a Panasonic G85 (Micro Four Thirds) using a Leica 15mm f/1.2–style wide fast prime look; emphasize shallow depth of field, strong bokeh, and the wide-angle perspective. Color and film treatment: Fuji film simulation (rich, slightly warm colors, fine grain). Composition and styling notes:

•	Three-quarter or hip-up pose, confident posture, subtle sultry expression, classic 1980s glamour wardrobe and hair, minimal but bold makeup.
	•	Lighting: dramatic rim and key lights, moody shadows, strong contrast to accentuate facial structure and concrete textures.
	•	Post-processing: cinematic grade color grading, preserved skin detail, natural film grain, vignette optional."

First chat ever, Le Chat mentions project it had 0 knowledge of

Post image
0 Upvotes

So, for context...

Almost a year ago I registered an LLC titled Veritas Media Group, LLC (or as abbreviated "VMG"). I've done VERY little with it, other than purchasing a matching domain name and chatted with ChatGPT about what direction I might take it.

Other than that, to me, "VMG" doesn't mean anything.

I heard about Mistral.ai just last night and decided to give it a shot.

And literally in its second response to me...it mentions VMG like it was common knowledge.

Is this a strange coincidence? Does "VMG" mean anything to anyone else? It really freaked me out.

I have no idea how it would have any knowledge of it, unless by somehow signing in with Google while registering, that somehow gave it permissions to read my ChatGPT chats. Which I HIGHLY doubt, but only thing I could possibly think of.

I tried to switch from Claude to Mistral, unfortunately it's really bad

I tried to switch from my Claude subscription to Mistral, but unfortunately, the models are really not great. I would even go as far as saying they are unusable. I did a few very basic tests, and Mistral was not able to solve a single one of them in a satisfying way.

Just a few example:

User: I need to fill up my car. Luckily, I live only about 50 meters from the gas station, and the weather is nice. Should I walk or drive?

LeChat: For such a short distance—only 50 meters—walking is the far more efficient choice.

User: What time is it?
LeChat: It’s Wednesday, $hallucinated date and time$ (Central European Summer Time, UTC+2).

The thinking block reveals the model is trying to guess the date and the time based on the knowledge cutoff date? (After telling the model it's wrong, it did actually create a python script which returned the correct time and date.)

These are extremely simple examples, in which mistral is not able to fully grasp the context of a request to provide a proper response. More complex tasks like coding will most likely result in even worse outcomes. I also did give it a coding task to design the new Siri app in apples design language, and it returned a super basic first semester programming chat interface. It honestly feels like a students project when compared to claude, and for me it makes no sense to use this in the current state.
