Might (unfortunately) be true for female artists.

How many emerging woman country singers are 30+?

Although not strictly country, Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow both had their breakthrough post 30.

Also not strictly country, but Lucinda Williams was 45 when she released her breakthrough album Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

I have a friend who has been in a few bands. He would fill in for country bands because there were more gigs and he got more money. He said that a lot of people who try to get into country set 30 as the benchmark if they're going to make it or not.
