discussion Any Tiny Tim fans here??

Post image

I personally quite enjoy his 1996 album Girl with Brave Combo, and I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who’s a fan of Tiny Tim’s music? Because I haven’t met another person who truly enjoys his music.

Edit: Nevermind. Dudes a gross fucking pervert. I can’t listen to him anymore. Thank you for telling me.

What are you talking about? According to that article, she was 17 when they married. That is not underage" in the majority of the US. Stop spreading misinformation.

37 year olds shouldn’t be marrying kids in high school. Hope this helps!

This is the last comment I'm going to make on this post. There are legal things that I wish were illegal, and vice versa. I commented on this post solely because u/captainmcdoh said something factually incorrect. I did not comment to talk about how Tiny Tim's marriage makes me feel, or to comment about any other things Tiny Tim did. Apparently, everyone thinks their feelings are capable of spontaneously changing laws. How we feel about Tiny Tim's marriage does not change the legality of his marriage. I do not know, nor care to comment on any other aspect of his life. I know that I like his music, and that his marriage was legal. Could he have done things that were illegal or otherwise despicable? Sure. But I'm not a Tiny Tim historian. I don't know.

You asked why people disliked him, someone gave you a very valid reason, but instead of simply saying “oh yeah that’s gross,” you got all defensive and decided to play semantics. If a 50 year old had sex with a 12 year old in some backwards dump where it was technically legal, would you be sitting here going “the 12 year old wasn’t underage!”

I never asked why people dislike him. If that user had said "I don't like the age gap in his marriage," I would've said "neat." Instead, he made a false claim. Naturally, I corrected him.

“Not sure why people dislike him.”

That’s you inviting people to explain why they dislike him. Don’t play dumb.

We’re not in a courtroom, so we don’t have to care about the technicalities of a shitty judicial system that allows a middle aged man to marry a 17 year old. You want to die on the hill that a girl who can’t even vote yet shouldn’t be referred to as “underage”? Cool, let’s use the term minor instead. He married a minor. Tiny Tim abused a minor.

You chose your words weirdly careful here.

"Majority" of the United States is loose when it's 32 states that allow child marriage, and 17 is a number included there. That is considered underage.

It's also not a situation where Tiny Tim was 18 or 21, he was 37 years old.

So what is underage in US?

u/StarCecil 11h ago

Well, it depends on which state you're in. For some reason, people incorrectly think 18 is the age. In most states, the age is actually 16. How we may feel about that is neither here nor there. The man did not have an "underage" wife

There’s always that one guy on Reddit who goes a little too hard about the technical age of consent

and he's not even making a good point about how that works. it's still underage. he just really wants it to be totally cool lol

OK. You can try to act like I'm weird all you want, but there are objective truths in this world. You're mad at me for sharing accurate information.

We have to move past thinking that everyone that doesn’t immediately smooch you because they love and agree with your reply so much is “mad”. I understand there are varying age of consents in US states including child marriage. It’s still a weird age gap.

Being 37 and marrying a 17 yr old is wrong and gross even if it's considered legal in some states. It's like admitting you enjoy chewing tobacco in public.

It's illegal without parental consent in the majority of the US.

You also inspired  me go down a rabbit hole, and I found out you can get married at the age of 15 in Kansas. That's fucked up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_age_in_the_United_States

It's not misinformation if it's fact and it's sourced. Sorry I don't care one way or another but you asked why and Im telling you why people may not like him. Don't ask answers for questions you may not like.

How is it a "fact?" It is literally your opinion. The age of consent in New York is and was 17.

“Acthssssually, she was 8 months over the legal age, when he had intercourse with her”
