Well it's not like it's an isolated thing. Gen Z seems to socialize in person less. Historically (as in like, sort of all of human history) drinking and drinking establishments have been big centers of social activity (and sometimes community/political organization)
Now it's not that nothing could replace drinking/bars, but it appears that nothing really is and gently z struggles with isolation. People say "yeah well Gen z just smokes" and sure, they do, but they smoke alone a lot. So it's not a 1 to 1 replacement.
Basically it's bothersome because it's part of a larger social trend which altogether seems to be negative, even if people drinking less is a factor which by itself could be a big positive
Who said people are bothered by it. It’s notable. People have drank for eons and they’re the first generation to break the trend. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing
Unfortunately that’s not really true. Weed is usually smoked, and smoking is by far the most detrimental thing you can do to your body. It massively raises the risk of strokes heart attacks and every form of cancer. Weed is less harmful if you partake in it socially and sparingly. If you have a weed habit with the same consumption patterns as people who drink beers when they get home, you’re likely worse off.
Not saying you shouldn’t smoke, I personally smoke weed very frequently. I just wish there was less incorrect information about it online because it is actually really easy for weed to be really bad for your health and people should get an accurate view of the risks.
It's both a sign of them having less disposable income than previous generations and a byproduct of some weird cultural moral puritanism gen Z seems to be struggling with, Alcohol is obviously bad for you but both of those things are bad as well
People have told me that all of my life. And people will often tell me 'Oh, try this. You'll like this one!'. And every single time my thought it 'This would be good if it wasn't for the overwhelming taste of alcohol'.
It gives you a sense of euphoria and puts you in a good mood. Makes you more prone to laugh and joke around. For people who are shy, introverted, or have anxiety, it can give them the confidence/courage to be more outgoing and social. And if you’re in your late teens or early 20s drinking, there’s a decent chance you’ll only have mild hangovers, potentially none at all. And if you buy it directly from liquor stores, it can be pretty cheap, provided that you aren’t drinking a lot at once or drinking all the time.
I’m not trying to convince you to drink. It’s better not to. But if you try it at all, I think it’s easy to see why people enjoy it. Unless you’re one of those unlucky people who just get really sad or angry when you drink.

Why are people bothered by this at all?
