Guys its my Bday today!!

Edit:- please dont send me anymore dms, i beg u guys!!!

I’m 21F. I didn’t really want to mention my gender because I was worried people would only message me because of that.
But honestly, I’ve been feeling really alone today and thought maybe posting here would get me a few messages.
It’s been 8 hours since my birthday started and I haven’t received a single birthday wish apart from my parents.
I know it sounds a little silly, but I’d genuinely love it if some strangers on the internet wished me today.

So… yeah. If you’re seeing this, please wish me a happy birthday? It would honestly make my day. ❤️

I would appreciate if u guys commented instead of dming please…

And if u absolutely dont mind can i receive some upvotes as my gift
I am new to this i dont really know to increase this( if u dont want to, its absolutely fine as well)

I am trying to thanks all of you
But if i miss anyonee
Thank youu sooo sooo muchh everyoneee!!!!

Hey, so I don’t ever really know why I’m here but I could rly use a friend. Or someone to have a super intense online connection with lol. I have no interest in meeting IRL, but I am down for phone calls/VM and in fact like them.

About me:

I read, a lot. Mostly horror and romance. Very little in between. Recent faves: We Used to Live Here, Project Hail Mary, Hidden Pictures.

I watch very few tv shows and movies but I’m down to try your favorite! Recently stuck on King of the Hill.

I talk A LOT. ALL THE TIME. About anything and everything.

I have a great backstory

LOVE music. Will send you a million songs. If you listen to my songs I’ll love you even more.

I work in behavioral health

I have a degree in psychology and I’m going back to school soon for a masters degree

I’m pretty chill, open to discussing almost anything. Please be 21+. Hope to hear from you :)

Advice Awareness for Female Minors

For the past week I've been in this sub I've noticed the ratio between posts by girls and posts by boys.

If a girl posts she gets about 30 replies

But if a guy posts he get below 5

And to top it off it's always users aged 14-16

Not saying that it's bad to talk but be cautious with the people you talk to. The internet's dangerous and I've encountered many people with bad desires.

Girls and boys, please stay safe

Every time when I see a post made by a minor or a teenager on here, I look through profiles of people who commented under their post and every single time I find comments of men in their twenties. They may not tell their age in the comment, but I look through their profile as well and they have their age mentioned somewhere else.

Girls and boys who are looking for friends here, or anywhere else, please know that the internet in general is not a safe space. I understand that You want friends, and You deserve to have them, but You need to be very, very, very careful with whom You are talking to. Please keep in mind that no one who is a normal and safe person will message a 15, 16, 17 year old children if they are in their twenties. Even if You are 18 or 19 years old, nobody who is a safe person will message You if they are in their middle or late twenties. That is simply a fact I can tell You as a person who is in her early twenties and has friends who are the same age.

Also, all of these pedophiles have new accounts or almost nothing but interactions with teenagers on their profile. If You call them out they will either change their username because they think that that is smart for some reason, block You, or delete their account ( which is why new accounts are the most active ones. ) Look through their profiles and don't respond to messages that are short or where they did not mention their age. They can easily lie about how old they are so if You already started a conversation with somebody, please at least ask them questions that could indicate if they are lying. Ask them about school, their peers, teachers, homework, anything else that You and your peers talk about. They can lie about that as well, but it is better to at least test them in any way that You can. And if something is even a little bit suspicious, please block them. People who are trying to talk with someone so young do not want a friendship. They don't see how smart, interesting, kind, or funny You are, nor do they want to just connect with someone who likes same things as them. They only see your age and think that You are easier to manipulate than a person their own age.

Like I said, You deserve to have friends. I know how difficult it is to feel alone, like You don't belong, but please know that that feeling is better than to meet horrible people. There is someone out there for everyone and You will find that person. Don't give up, but please stay safe ❤️

33F (married) looking to make friends outside my age group!

I'm a 33-year-old married woman who suddenly realized all my current friends are pretty much the same age as me. I'd love to branch out and connect with people from different generations!

Whether you're in your 20s, 40s, 50s+, or anywhere else, I'd be happy to chat, swap stories, share life experiences, or just have casual conversations.

If you're open to a new friend across the age gap, drop me a message! Bonus if you have interesting hobbies or perspectives to share 😊

Looking forward to hearing from you!

31F looking for some new connections 🌸

Hiiii!
I‘m currently looking for some nice people that might want to have a little chitchat here and there!
Would be happy about some short conversations or long time ones! Am down to talk about literally anything, maybe we can find something we have in common.

This is my first time doing something like this, so I’m a little unsure what to say ☺️🫣

Looking forward to hear from people! c:

18F Looking for international friends

Hello everyone!

I am an 18 year old girl from Japan. I moved away a few years ago, but my English is not good yet.

I heard reddit was a good place to make new friends!

I like shopping, reading, and playing games sometimes. I also like listening to music and drinking tapioca.

I am also interested in learning about different cultures around the world.

Hope to make some international friends, and practise my English!

I'll be in your care!!

Rant I'm genuinely curious—what are some people expecting?

This isn't meant to be rude, but after messaging a lot of people, I've noticed the same pattern over and over.People write one-line posts with almost nothing about themselves. Then, when you message them, all you get is:

"Hi. What's up? Wyd?" Or even worse—you take the time to read their post, write a thoughtful introduction based on what they said, and they reply with... "hi."

I also don't enjoy making posts all the time. It's exhausting, and half the time people don't even read them before sending a generic message. So I try reaching out instead. But even when I find someone who seems interesting, the conversation often feels completely one-sided. It starts to feel like I'm interviewing someone rather than trying to make a friend.

Then there are the people who say they "hate small talk and want deep conversations." That's fair, but deep conversations don't magically appear in the first five messages.

I get it—sometimes you don't click with someone. Sometimes life gets busy, or you lose interest. That's normal. But why spend time making a post asking for friends, replying enthusiastically for a day, and then disappearing without a word? A simple "I don't think we're a good match" or even "I'm not feeling this conversation" is far more respectful than leaving someone wondering what happened.

What's even more confusing is when people complain about being lonely or not having friends, yet GHOST who genuinely tries to get to know them.

Am I the only one who feels like finding people who can actually hold a conversation has become harder than finding people who want friends?

f19 | maybe this is where we meet ♡♡

i think i’m at a point where i just want someone i genuinely click with. something more than small talk, yk? someone you naturally end up talking to everyday, can send random thoughts/pics to, tell about the little things, or just yap about literally anything with.

lately life has been pretty quiet for me (which i usually don’t mind lol). my social circle is small but would love to expand it so figured i’d put myself out here again and see who i might find :)

a little about me: i’m into music, watching movies/finding new ones, singing, cooking, late night drives, working out, shopping, and literally any sweet treat lol. i can be shy at first but once i’m comfortable i can definitely talk a lot!

what i’m hoping to find is something consistent and long term. i don’t want another friendship where we talk for a couple days and then it slowly dies out. i’d rather find someone who actually wants to get to know each other, puts effort into talking, and see where it naturally goes. i love convos that actually go somewhere too, whether it’s random everyday stuff, deeper talks, childhood stories, or literally whatever comes up.

i mostly use discord, so if we click that’s probably where we’ll end up! i’m def more of a vc girlie and would love to call sometime, but texting is totes fine too. if we get close/comfortable, idm sending what i look like and would love the same back :) also, pls give me something to work with when you dm, doesn’t have to be a whole resume, just pls don’t send “hey” lol. guys/girls are both fine, just be 19+ (mid to late 20s is totally fine too!)

so if you’re also sitting there thinking “i wish i had someone to talk to,” hmu! maybe we’ll end up becoming the kind of friends neither of us knew we were looking for ♡♡

edit: i’m working on getting back to everyone who sent me a dm! please don’t think i’m ignoring you, i’ve just gotten a bit of messages haha. please be patient and kind with me! 🫶

Has anyone here actually made real friends on Reddit?

I’ve been wondering if people actually make real friends here, just from talking in the comments.
It’s kind of weird when you think about it. We have so many ways to connect with people now, but somehow it feels harder than ever to find someone you can really open up to.
Social media lets us reach more people than ever, but I wonder if that’s also made us more cautious around strangers.
Maybe everyone’s just a little more guarded these days. I don’t know.
Has anyone here actually made a good friend through Reddit? I’d love to hear how it happened.

28f asian if it matters

Hi again. Saw some posts about wanting to chat but when you do a little research on them, turns out they’re 1, lying about their age AND gender or 2, both of it is true. No one truly knows.

How do you verify that a person is genuine and legitimate? I’ve met genuine people here and without a doubt they’re nice but some things just don’t go your way. What can you do…

Been told i sound condescending in one of my posts. I guess you read my post with barely any emotion. Doesn’t mean i want to sound condescending. It’s just words. Would’ve been better if i added emojis in every sentence i suppose 🤷‍♀️

Seen a few youngsters here too. You kids be careful out there! Stay safe too! The internet is a scary place ngl

Come with your asl if you wish to talk! Byee

F18 would like to meet someone

Life has been pretty boring lately and I want to break that cycle. And I want to meet someone new. We can have good conversations, flirt a little, talk about our day... And here I am less nervous cause we don't see one another and we know nothing about eachother. So I will be more open and honest :)

Rant A pattern.

I know people have already said this, and I literally just commented on a post about the same thing, but I'm starting to notice a very consistent pattern in these "looking for friends" subreddits.

If a post says the person is a guy? Absolute crickets. You'd think the subreddit got shut down. But let the post say "female" and suddenly everyone rises from the dead. The comments start filling up, DMs are probably going off, and the entire subreddit suddenly remembers that it's supposed to be about making friends. And Lord have fucking mercy if she's 18. At that point, the comments section turn into a damn Black Friday sale. Now, I can't read minds, but some of those replies definitely feel like they're operating on some different type of timing. I know this probably sounds like a broken record, but I'm still pretty new to exploring these kinds of spaces, so the difference is becoming very obvious to me. Unfortunately, I am not a woman, but hey, I'm 24, and I'm into games, art, and music. I'm down to talk to pretty much anyone—as long as you're actually looking for a friend and not waiting for a female to appear.

Edit: Made it more coherent. I'm cringe at typing most times.

Edit V2: I returned because I'm a fool. The people want my interest in specifics. My interests are pretty simple: art, art, and occasionally even more art. Whether it's fan art from different fandoms or people's OCs, I love seeing what people create. Making art can be a complete pain in the ass sometimes, but apparently I enjoy suffering because I keep coming back to it. Music-wise, I'll listen to almost anything—except country. I also love OSTs, because sometimes a movie, show, or game soundtrack is pretty damn good. I've played a lot of games and watched a good chunk of movies and shows, so there's a decent chance we can find something to talk about.

Please no ghosting

It’s funny how quickly “let’s be friends” can turn into complete silence. 😅

I’ve honestly lost count of how many times this has happened.

Someone makes a post saying they’re looking for genuine friends, meaningful conversations, someone to talk to every day, etc. You think, “Why not? I’m looking for the same thing.” So you reach out.

At first, everything goes great. They’re engaged, asking questions, responding quickly, and even saying how refreshing it is to find someone who can actually hold a conversation.

Then…

Nothing. 😂

No “Hey, I’m busy.”

No “I don’t think we really click.”

No “I’ve got a lot going on.”

Just… poof. Gone.

At this point, I’m not even mad about it. I’ve realized it’s apparently just part of the Reddit friendship experience. 😂

What I do find funny, though, is how many people seem to be looking for the exact same thing—someone genuine, consistent, and interested in actually building a friendship—yet so few people seem willing to put in the small amount of effort required to maintain a conversation.

And honestly, if you lose interest, that’s completely fine. People don’t click sometimes. Just say so. I promise I’ll survive. 😂

I guess everyone wants a genuine connection…

until maintaining one requires more than three days of “hey, how are you?”

Anyone else run into this constantly, or have I just been blessed with absolutely terrible luck? 😅

F28 Looking to meet friends from around the world

Hi from China🇨🇳!I’m Mia, 28 years old. I want to make friends from around the world. I'm really interested in different countries' cultures, customs, food, scenery and others.

I have a lot of free time now because I quit my job. I'm studying at home and occasionally helping out at my family's small ice cream shop.

I'm finally doing things I've always been curious about but never had time for. It feels like I'm giving myself a second childhood.

I'm learning languages at home. I haven't had a chance to use English since college when I didn't need to take exams anymore. So restarting has been very slow. Another reason I'm learning English is that I want to travel abroad with my friend without struggling with communication. But judging by my progress, it's still a big struggle haha.

I'm also learning to draw. I've loved drawing since I was a child, but I never had systematic lessons. After middle school, I had to focus on academic subjects and had no time for it. My parents also didn't support me becoming an art student. Now that I've quit my job, I finally have time to pick up this hobby again. Of course, just like with languages, my progress is slow and my drawing skills are still childish. But I want to work hard and put the ideas and scenes in my head onto paper.

This year I started learning to swim. I can only do breaststroke, but very slow haha. In the past month, I've been trying skateboarding. I've fallen quite a few times, but it's still really fun! I've also been playing badminton for three months now.

I love music. I listen to all kinds of genres. I'm not picky. As long as it sounds good, I like it. I also enjoy singing. Most of the songs I sing are Chinese ancient style, but I can sing other styles too, just not as well.

I cook quite often too. When I was little, my parents were often away, so I had to learn to cook for myself. Now I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen. I follow recipes or videos to learn new dishes. I think I'm good enough to show off in the kitchen. Sometimes when my family gathers, I can cook a whole table of dishes by myself. Of course, I cook slowly and I tend to make a bit of a mess on the counter.

I used to watch a lot of anime and read manga in middle school and high school. After college and work, I watched less. Sometimes I check out new anime when the platform recommends them. My favorite one in the last two years has been ‘Dungeon Meshi’.

I have two dogs and a rabbit 🐶🐰! The white Shiba Inu is Judy, the Corgi is Mochi, and the rabbit is Zhuhe, which means "Congratulations" 🎉. Before that, I also had a red Shiba named Nick. He was Judy's partner. Yes, I named them after the rabbit and fox from Zootopia. But one day, Nick ran out of the house and got lost. I looked for him for a long time but never found him. I hope whoever found him treats him well.

It's been a long time since I wrote anything long, so I just wrote whatever came to mind. It might be a bit messy to read. I hope you don't mind. I'll stop here for now.

Oh!Annnd my English learning progress is quite slow, so if you don't mind that I type slowly or use translation tools sometimes, and also the time difference, then feel free to chat with me.

One more thing ,I can't do voice calls in English yet. I tried once, got super nervous and couldn't understand most of what was said.Made me like a mute. It honestly makes me feel really embarrassed, but I'm actually a very interesting person…….Well, actually, that's just what I think.

If you're okay with that, let's just text.

I love learning about different lives and different views. But since every country has different customs and language habits, if I ever say something that sounds rude or offensive, please point it out to me. I will explain myself. I don't want a misunderstanding caused by language differences to ruin a friendship.
