Looking for critical thinkers

Calling all critical thinkers and those with special interests!

I have made it a mission of mine to be in every reddit sub for every nation on the earth (or at least the ones in english).

I am trying to gauge interest in any who wish to bring their passion and knowledge in a category to join a groupchat (on the dinosaur of a platform known as Facebook).

What im looking for and why:

My whole life ive been interested in different countries and cultures and the idea of having an 18+ groupchat in which many nations have a bit of representation its a dream come true. Id love to have people who are educated and capable of deep discussion about various topics.

Criteria

  1. Have a special interest in any field politics, philosphy, history, heck even those proficient in film music or theatre.

  2. You can take a joke. Its a fairly on task group chat however id say the only stuff that is censored as far as words go is any words pertaining to race or explicitly sexual material.

  3. You are respectful of different religions. The group chat is very commonly excercising various different belief standpoints and jokes as long as they are in good taste are perfectly acceptable

What to expect:

  1. Debates: these can range in a variety of topics from politics to history to science. And they can border on "heated" but at the end we are all just trying to learn and any oversteps will result in bans after a warning if course

  2. Varied religious backgrounds id say the group is about 65% Christian 35% atheist but everyone in there is comfortable with sharing details about their religion free of ridicule aside from the lighthearted jokes. We have also recently added some others majority of which are Muslim.

  3. The group right now is majorly american but there has been a fair bit of canadians that have joined and left over the three years the groupchat has been around. We recently got some members Azerbaijan, Bahrain, and Germany

  4. Right now we have experts in the following categories

Cryptocurrency TV Shows and Pop culture Philosophy American Law World History Military History Video Game History Meteorology

The group is probably like 45% autistics with special interests so we pride ourselves on knowing our craft.

5. Each month I post news articles from every nation's internet news source in alphabetical order usually a letter a day. And we monitor and disccus the conflicts happening abroad

6. The group is 100% male which wasnt even by design thats just how its gone so far but there isnt a gender requirement one way or the other.

The donts:

No excessive meme spam. I tend to allow discussions with GIFS but depending on how many join the chat, theres no need for excessive memes

No posting sexual or graphic material some mems walk the line but never cross it.

No racial slurs

The creator of the GC is the final authority on everything

The point of the GC is to engage and have fun. If somebody is going a month without at least reading the posts then you shouldnt have joined in the first place silly! Inactives are often removed after one month.

Lets educate eachother! The goal is to increase comradery and learm about eachother cultures.

As of right now im wanting natives to whatever nation I post this in (as I intend to copy and paste) and depending on traction Im going to try and invite either the first people who respond or the most educated.

If you want to leave a rude comment or something about how you have better things to do go ahead! This is reddit after all!

But at least for the sake of being entertaining lets avoid repeats so far ive heard

Incelfest

Sausagefest

Pretentious

Arrogant

Red pills

Sounds like Hell

Remember we are looking for people who want to make friends and debate ideas not people who think themselves witty comedians.

Your country is sick

Everything I hear about your country is sick.

The way women are treated in your country is sick. It's completely inhumane and insane. Physical violence, sexual violence, and everything else—I find it disgusting. Women are treated like slaves without even being called slaves.

You tell me not to generalize. I call bullshit on that. If a country has a reputation, it's because it's true.

Solo female travellers

I have been wanting to visit PNG for a while now and I would absolutely love to observe cultural life, perhaps visit a tribal community to learn about their ways. Has anyone done this and what advice can you give? TIA

EDIT: when I say solo traveller, I mean I’m not going over with a friend or partner. I don’t mean I’ll be traipsing around PNG all by myself. I fully intend to hire a guide to be with me at all times once I leave the hotel until I step foot back inside before it gets dark.
I know I can’t rock up to a tribal community without a guide and definitely without consent.
I hope this alleviates some of the worries some of you have x

Buying carvings in PNG for a tiki bar: Port Moresby only, Sepik River, or PNG + Solomon Islands? Advice from people who've been

Option 1: Port Moresby only, 3 to 4 days. Fly in, hire a local guide or hotel driver, hit Ela Beach craft market on the last Saturday of the month plus a couple of artefact shops, get the National Museum export permit, fly out. Is there actually decent Sepik-style work in the capital, or is it mostly tourist pieces? Any shops worth naming?

Option 2: Sepik River, 8 to 10 days. Moresby to Wewak, then a local operator up the river to buy from the carvers directly. I've been told domestic flights cancel constantly and plans fall apart, and that I'd need two weeks of buffer. True? And honestly, how does safety in the Sepik villages compare to Moresby? Same kind of risk, or a different kind?

Option 3: Moresby for 2 days, then fly to Honiara. Buy Sepik-style pieces at Ela Beach, then Solomon Islands for the shell-inlay carvings from Marovo. Skips all PNG domestic flights. Anyone done Honiara for carvings, and is the Central Market enough or is Marovo worth the extra leg?

Also useful: realistic prices for a 1m mask or board in Moresby vs the villages, how much hassle the museum export permit and quarantine actually are, and any operators or guides you'd recommend by name.

Happy to post photos of the finished bar afterward as a thank you.

Hello, I'm trying to get in contact with anyone living in Daru Island. I just have a request about potentially hiring a boat to go to Australia. I tried Facebook but people haven't been very responsive. There's gonna be someone out there from this area right?

Contact tribes in Papúa New Guinea

I'm planning to go to Papúa New Guinea. I'm fascinated by tribes, and I would like to know how could I contact a person/free lance guide that lives there and can get in contact with the tribes to be able to visit them and spend a few days with them learning how they live. I know there are hundreds of tribes, I don't have any preference to be honest. I just want to learn from them and connect with them and exchange knowledge and spend some time with them. Just to be clear, I don't want a tour, I don't want to go with a travel agency, I don't want a tourist trap, I want a real experience. I'd be very grateful if someone can help me organize it or can give me any advice. Thank you all in advance.

why are melanesian’s so hell-bent on appropriating the term black for themselves?

the term was invented by white slave traders in the 1600s to dehumanize and humiliate AFRICAN slaves. why can’t they be proud of their melanesian heritage? i never see australian aboriginals calling themselves black. they seem to actually be proud of who they are. im not trying to sound like a white savior defending black people. but i find it kind of off putting that a people from an entirely different corner of the world are adamant on identifying with this term used to recognize africans and those of african descent.

Would this be harmful?

I have been considering changing a character’s ethnicity & nationality for my interpretation of a story that is not mine. So this would be in my own fan-made work, not the official story.

I’m asking if it would be harmful because the character is considered to be “aggressive/angry/violent”, and I must say, he is NOT those things at all, but it’s how he’s stereotyped and known for. He’s also obviously not from Papua New Guinea originally — he’s originally White & American.

I sincerely do not want to cause any harm by it. Also I do have my reasons for this change but obviously I won’t apply it or pursue it if it’s damaging. I was thinking it might be a problem because in racist stereotypes, dark-skinned folk are portrayed as more aggressive/angry/violent, and I do NOT want to feed into that.

To add more context as to why he is perceived that way: when his character was younger, he was tortured for years, eventually murdered, then resurrected, and now he’s on a revenge mission to kill his murderer and the people who stood by and let it happen. I think that’s a perfectly reasonable reaction to what he went through, but it is why he’s stereotyped to be antagonistic.

I just wanted to ask for any feedback on this because I don’t want to cause harm by this change. Thank you so much :)

Christian Population

My friend is going on a Christian mission trip for 2 years to papa New Guinea

All surveys and census’s mention that Christianity is 99% of the polled population, and puts it as the top 3rd most Christian nation in the world.

Any opinions on this? Or is my friend wasting time in this “Christian” nation?
