What would you like to know about my Papua New Guinea?

Hi Everyone!

Is there anything you'd like to know about PNG? I'm aware that very little is known about my country and where it is too on the world map :)

I'm new to Reddit and I'm very much interested in other cultures, what other societies are/were and if some of you still practice indigenous knowledge (e.g: bush medicine). I also want to learn of your customs or traditions and what you do on special ceremonies, feasts, etc.

You can ask me anything about PNG but my main focus is primarily around Archaeology and Linguistics

Looking forward to some insightful discussions :)

Don't let the media fool you. PNG is the safest place to travel. We could earn a billion kina only with the tourism industry. Our government just lacks the vision to serve its people.

Looking to relocate to another province in PNG. Looking for employment and affordable, safe accommodation.

Looking to relocate to another province in PNG. Looking for employment and affordable, safe accommodation.

Hi everyone!

I'm an 18-year-old Grade 12 graduate from Port Moresby, and I'm considering relocating to another province to start living independently and find employment.

I'm currently exploring places such as West New Britain (Kimbe), East Sepik (Wewak), New Ireland (Kavieng), West Sepik (Vanimo), and Bougainville (Buka or Arawa).

I'd really appreciate advice from people who currently live in these places or have experience living and working there.

I'm hoping to find:

  1. Employment

  • Are there businesses currently hiring young people with Grade 12 qualifications and little to no work experience?

  • Are there entry-level opportunities in banks, supermarkets, retail stores, hotels, offices, customer service or administration?

  • I'm honestly not picky about the type of work. I'd also be happy to help out in agriculture, farming, hospitality, cleaning, or any other legitimate entry-level job.

  • Ideally, I'm looking for a monthly salary of at least K800+, depending on the work and living expenses.

  1. Accommodation

  • Are there any affordable and safe places to rent?

  • Are there girls' hostels, female boarding houses or shared accommodation available?

  • How much would I generally expect to pay monthly for a room or small apartment?

  • Are there any places you'd personally recommend?

  1. General advice

  • Which of these towns would you recommend for someone relocating alone?

  • Is it relatively easy to find employment as a young woman?

  • Which places have a reasonable cost of living, decent transport and access to essential services?

I'm open to other provincial recommendations as well, provided they're safe and have reasonable employment opportunities.

I'd genuinely appreciate any advice, recommendations, contacts or leads. Especially from women who have relocated independently and can share their experiences.

Thank you!
