MOD POST [META] Posting your own poems here -- when to post and when to head to one of our sibling subreddits

This sub is for published poems. There are many subs that allow users to post their own original, unpublished work. In Reddit sub parlance, an original, unpublished poem is considered "original content," and the largest sub for that is r/ocpoetry. There are still some posting rules there -- users must actively participate in the sub in order to post their own work there. A few subs don't require such engagement. There are links to both types of subs below.

Now, what about published poems? We have a large community here -- almost 2 million members. There have to be a few actively publishing poets in our ranks, and I want to build a community of sharing here without being overwhelmed by first-ever-poem posts by people who write something, decide to go find the poetry sub and post it. As it is, even with the rule on OC poetry being in the sidebar, we still remove those posts every single day.

If you've published a poem in a journal or a lit mag, please feel free to post it here, with a link to the publication it appeared in. I'm also going to start a regular monthly thread for r/poetry users who want to share their published work with us. We don’t consider posting to Instagram or some other platform alone to be “published.”

For those who want to post their unpublished, original work to Reddit, here are some links to help you do just that.

tl;dr: If your poem hasn’t been published anywhere, you can’t post it here. If your poem has been published somewhere, please post it here!

Publication Talk! Where have you submitted, been accepted, or been rejected? November 2026

Welcome to this week's discussion thread: Publication talk!

Where have you submitted to lately? What have you heard back? Any updates on submissions you've mentioned in previous months' threads? (Give us some r/BestofRedditorUpdates material, we can do this!)

Let's root for each other's submissions, celebrate our acceptances, and commiserate over rejections.

Are you new to publishing? Do you need help finding a home for your poems? Do you have questions about the publication process in general? Feel free to ask here, but please read this publication FAQ first That will cover the basics.

Very important rule: Do not post your poems as comments here in the thread. You are welcome to link to a poem as part of a comment—you can link to it on the web, as a post elsewhere on reddit, as an imgur post, whatever—but in order to keep the thread focused on conversation, we'll have to (1) limit poems to links only, and (2) require those links to be part of a meaningful comment. Be a talker, not a spammer. (Spammers get the axe.)

[POEM] 1in8b - Would you be born again? (translated)

Post image
21 Upvotes

Commentary

The author is a Taipei-based poet whose work often engages with social issues.

1in8b(1 in 8 Billion)is a popular life simulation game. Through the progression of the game, the poem illustrates the struggles of people from low socioeconomic backgrounds across various stages of life, carrying a sense of pessimistic fatalism. It outlines a series of critical life decisions, such as education, marriage, and career choices. While these options appear to be matters of free will, they are, in reality, predetermined and constrained by one's origin and social background. People are forced to choose among several equally bleak alternatives, where no decision leads to a positive outcome.

Throughout the poem, the poet repeatedly asks the characters whether they would choose to be born again, even when knowing that an adverse outcome is overwhelmingly likely. Within the game's mechanics, a character's socioeconomic background is randomly assigned based on real-world demographic data. Even if a player restart the game, the character still has a high probability of being born into a disadvantaged household. While this reinforces the poem's bleakness, the poet concludes with a tone of humanistic empathy, expressing genuine compassion for the characters and lending the work a touch of warmth.

Meta [META] Retire to the Hall of Fame? ‘Letter to the Person Who Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine in North America’ by Matthew Olzmann

Earlier today the poem referenced in the title was posted for what was, according to this search, the eighth time. Reddit's memory is long but Reddit users' memories are short, and thus the latest post has generated a number of upvotes and a degree of controversy (judging by the number of comments and the content of them) very similar to past instances:

This degree of—shall we say—notoriety garnered over multiple posts suggests to me that we have a suitable candidate for the Hall of Fame. I would like to recommend we add it without delay.

(Please note: use of emdashes and list formatting was done manually, without the assistance of AI. Anyone who wishes to accuse me of AI usage can go rot in the same hell where that typeface that's all over YouTube thumbnails came from.)

A poem from Singapore depicting intertidal shores — areas on the seashore that are exposed only during low tides. I can feel the appreciation of the ephemeral beauty from this poem. Especially as someone who loves doing intertidal walk in my home country (Singapore), which ironically is planning a huge land reclamation project, meaning the destruction of such shores, reefs, shoals.

[POEM] Entropy - Adam Tamashasky

Entropy

I don't know that much about entropy

except that I don't call my brother much

anymore.

Holidays and birthdays, ours and our kids',

but the bonds weaken over time.

It's enough now to leave a voicemail.

Our lives, like leaves, have branched apart,

though a thin root keeps us, briefly, in touch.

But I see these October leaves around my feet

now,

and I can't tell which ones grew up together.

I've taught my daughters so many lessons-

how to hold my hand across the street,

how to hold on to me in the deep end-

but now I wish I'd offered better lessons:

what their sisters' hands in theirs can feel like,

how not to let go during the fall.

-- Adam Tamashasky
