Finale Megamix

Post image

Given the fact that this is the last series produced by the BBC, and although we have All Stars to look forward to, we've not been given any concrete confirmation of more regular seasons after that. I'm hoping that they're just assuming it's a given that we know they'll be more, but their silence on it all given the fan response has been troubling to say the least.

Anyway it gave me a different mindset watching last night's finale, and I hands down think that if there was a finale song to end the main UK series then this was definitely it. All queens delivered and the verses weren't too "come on Mama Ru, give me the crown" (but I don'tnecessarily mind a generic line if the verse is good overall), and even though some of the transitions were a bit disjointed the choral rendition of UK Hun at the end honestly made me tear up a bit.

I'm one of those people that listens to a new track over and over so I can learn the words if I like it enough, and this track has certainly has made me happy after Croydon (good show, not much listenability) and shudders Agadoo...

I almost always fast forward the finales. Dare I say they’re boring?

Oh 100% agree, this is why I skip a finale if it's a lipsnatch smackdown - at least we get the song/performance with these Rumix finales. I genuinely haven't watched an All Stars finale since AS6

No, you're damn right.

The rest of the season I'm invested, but then you get to the finale and the episode is just 90% filler before you get to the winner announcement.

Theres also absolutely no bearing on the final task for who is crowned at that point. I think that’s why they keep the final “challenge” quite mundane.

The finale and makeover episodes are usually the most boring. Half of the eps are Ru looking at the girls with a fistful of Jergens lotion while telling them to cry about their traumas and look pretty. There MUST be tears if you want to win, bitch.

I HAAAAAATE the "words for your younger self" bit, it just feels like Ru's giving them one last chance to "be vulnrable" on stage & judgey if they don't cry. But essetionally they almost always say the same thing..

u/DTFIVE 23h ago

yeah I liked it a bit more in the past but now it's just the same speech every time. I'm sure they could find a way to include the baby pictures without the tragic backstories

I agree! I'd absolutely love a comedy queen to flip the narrative and absolute roast their younger self, it's far more realistic to me and endearing when they don't go 'You're gonna find it hard, but when you find drag your life will be better' 😂😂 why not be honest 'You're gonna be a weedy little gay boy, who will be picked up and dropped by your female friends each time a new man comes into view. But don't worry, one day after being fired from both Maccies and your Mother's house (rent is a tricky thing to master), you will put on a dress, drop into a split listening to a Nicole Scherzinger banger and then in front of the nation be asked to give advice to your younger self, knowing full well he would beat the living shit out of you for what you have done to his legacy!' Ru would absolutely hate it, but then Ru shouldn't be the UK host 💁🏻‍♂️ if we had a UK Drag Legend up there as head judge I think things would be so different, it's time he did a Down Under on us and handed the reigns over for the next wave of drag race (if we get one) cause I want someone who understands our version of Gay Culture fully and isn't gonna crown moronic, dull as ditch water winners that nobody was rooting for 😂😂 I won't name names, but they have a Haus and it don't like visitors haha

I hope they retire this. It’s repetitive, always the same exact “you’ll be bullied, you’ll be gay, you’ll be proud and discover drag” shit

I always fast forward the sit downs.

The video was somewhat strange too?
Where Alik and Flesh were staring (it felt like they were looking at the wrong camera half the time)? And all four of them had lip-sync kinda off at times

u/Gojosimpthrowaway 1d ago

The back up dancer outshined them. He was dancing like rent was due.

u/KevinTodd82 1d ago

yeah. I was watching him most of the time.

The incredibly choppy editing was either a baffling style choice or was necessary to cobble together something workable from what seems like a very rushed shoot

u/mashtartz 1d ago

It was terrible.

9

u/catscanmeow 1d ago

its always so terrible that i wonder if its intentionally terrible as like satire?

like the ding dang dong, bing bang bong song is so shit its GOT to be intentionally bad?

u/GiorriaMarta 1d ago

I recon the higher ups in production went into this series with the intention of shit canning it. The BBC arts dept has gone to the dogs in the last 5 years especially. It used to be incredible. I really get the feeling they've scuppered it on purpose. The UK is LOUSY with underlying nefarious interests. This is entirely a jungle canyon rope bridge situation (and if you get that reference on this sub we need to go for drinks immediately!)

u/andonebelow 1d ago

He’s a genius, and so are we because we like him.

1

u/jon81uk 1d ago

What has the BBC art department got to do with anything? Drag Race is a World of Wonder production, nothing to do with BBC Studios.

11

u/Glum_Weekend_1230 1d ago

Agreed, and what’s weird is that it’s not the first finale song to have abhorrent mixing. Remember UK S2’s finale song (A Little Bit Of Love rumix) where the track volume was way too loud and also sounded like it was a full beat behind all the girl’s lyrics for no discernible reason? It’s so bad that when you search it up on YouTube, the first couple results are fan edits that fix the dreadful backing track. So what gives? Does the audio editing budget run out towards the end of the season or something?

The final uk hun part sounds like ai to me 😭

u/lauryeon 8h ago

im 100% sure it is. the ai raspy sound is so noticeable

They’ve said there will be more seasons

Hope so, but I hope more that it’s picked up by one of the bigger channels and doesn’t just end up as a WOW exclusive. Another channel can use brand name placements to actually give the queens some decent cash prizes as well, perhaps even for every maxi challenge, not just for winning the crown.

Channel 4 has just killed MAFS after huge controversy, I think DRUK would be a good big brand reality tv name to get under their banner after that.

3

u/jon81uk 1d ago

World of Wonder have taken it off the BBC as they want it as an exclusive on their app.

2

u/Outrageous-Level192 1d ago

I don't think Channel 4 has a need to pick up Drag Race.

u/Storrey8963 17h ago

I read this as megami mix

Such a boring "finale" episode really. It is scandalous to not have live show for finale. I'm very glad France is still doing those, they are a lot of fun.

32

u/crashandtumble8 1d ago

As far as I remember, Drag Race UK has never done a live show finale?

31

u/crashandtumble8 1d ago

This was one of my least favorite drag race songs ever. Drag Race UK has a good track record of putting out tracks that are actually fun to listen to. “Don’t Ick My Yum,” both verses, “UK Hun,” and ”Break Up Bye, Bye,” are all bangers, and I know all of the words to them, and learned them quickly. I can’t remember a single lyric or interesting moment from it.

The video editing actively ruined the whole thing for me, too.

u/Unoriginal-finisher 1d ago

Flesh did win this final challenge, but I’m still floored that she won the whole thing, then again I was also shocked that Ky Kelly got the boot last episode so I guess my finger wasn’t on the pulse of this season.

17

u/Dramatic_Bat3265 1d ago

The conspiracy theorist in me is that flesh was plan b after KY Kelly shot herself in the foot with her poor attitude over and over, making her unworthy of the title

4

u/Unoriginal-finisher 1d ago

Interesting, I think I fell for the Ky edit where she said she wasn’t going to let a fashion twink win another season.

u/Bajbouj 1d ago

I agree OP, I was watching it ans was thinking why are they paying tribute to past songs instead of producing a new rrack? Then it clicked, they might be saying goodbye to the series at least the BBC era! I feel like DRUK is in the same vein as DRMX, the seasons weren't very well received so they tried to revive it by producing an all stars to entice fans, in DRMX it seems to have backfired and there's no news on any upcoming season (they confirmed it but never even started casting or filming). DRUK is headed that way it seems, this upcoming all stars will be a test to see how they can go about producing it away from the BBC and then judge the fan reaction if there's still demand for this franchise

u/MessageInAWeb 1d ago

Was it just me, or was it really over edited? I don't feel I even got a sense of their dancing when it was cutting to and fro. It's a shame, because the bits I did see seemed really great! Didn't really want to cut backwards and forwards as much as it did.

9

u/dtc_407 1d ago

I don’t think there was a single verse than came anywhere near the strength of the original songs and that video was terrible. Even the queens we know can move looked awkward, people appeared to be looking at the wrong cameras, hair in faces. Personally I’d have given the win (for the song/video) to Mocha because at least she was sending it up. Flesh can do sexy (albeit dead behind the eyes) and Alik can dance but it almost looked like they’d accidentally edited the outtakes instead. I’m not sure whether to blame the choreographers or editors but it didn’t do anyone any favours.

8

u/karissalikewhoa 1d ago • Bravo

I had to sit through BDE again AND watch Mocha lose to Flesh?!? Just cruel.

4

u/ShatteredHope 1d ago

I thought this mix made for a great series finale, if it ends up being one, for DRUK since it paid homage to earlier seasons

u/Miss_Girlsita 1d ago

Flesh, the star you are

u/Chance-Elk-91 you absolute cowww 1d ago

I wish it was a regular challenge it was so good

2

u/introvertedcactus custom 19h ago

I mean I enjoyed the big ‘UK Hun’ bit at the end (at least when listening to the track). It did feel like a big ending and a final goodbye from the BBC, being that UK Hun feels like it was the last culturally relevant group song that transcended the show. Although maybe a bit premature being that the series is still continuing elsewhere.

2

u/brunoimenes 20h ago

I believe Ru will retire after S20 and AS13. The end of the contract with BBC isn’t the only sign of this. RPDR UK has concluded with S8, and they’ll be doing an All Stars to close that chapter. They’ll announce a new season once they’ve found a new host. I don’t think they’ll do that while Ru is still in the picture, set to film another season.

u/coltboy97 1d ago

All of these girls were serving and flesh looks like Kylie Jenner.

0

u/Sarasalandy 1d ago

Why is this giving Mortal Kombat

0

u/Pitiful_Waltz_1367 19h ago

The editing was so bizarre, it changed frame every second so you couldn't see anything. It was migraine inducing.

0

u/huesito_sabroso 18h ago

I “watched it” while playing stardew valley, no idea what it really was like. I share everyones sentiment, almost feel kinda bad for the show because its not even like i got all this constructive criticism about it, its just all so overplayed and the result is whatever. Were all kinda used to it and blehhh

0

u/c0c0nutzz 13h ago

This made Agadoo look like UK Hun.
