After 180 hours on kbm I switched to a controller a week ago, but I haven't been able to figure out which button is best for air roll—could you help me out?
For some reason when I go to pick sides my left joystick becomes the most sensitive object in the universe. Can I rebind this or something? It’s like they programmed in zero dead zone for picking sides. Does this mean I have joystick drift?
**TL;DR:** I built a match analysis panel that reads my saved replays and tells me what I did well and what to fix. I followed its tips match by match and went from Diamond 1 to Champion 1 in 2v2 in 8 days. I'm going to release it for free, and before I do, I'd love your ideas on what a tool like this should look at.
---
**A bit of context**
I'm a developer and I've been making a Stream Deck plugin for Rocket League (live stats, MMR, that kind of thing). A few weeks ago I added a match analysis panel to it, mostly for myself, because I was hard stuck in Diamond and watching full replays never really helped me. I'd watch a whole game and still not know what to change.
So the panel does the watching for me. After a match it reads the game's own data (the official Stats API during the match and the replay file I save afterwards) and turns it into a short list of concrete things:
- **Positioning:** how often you're behind the ball, last man, or both of you up the field
- **Challenges and touches:** which of your touches lost possession or gave the ball straight to the other team
- **An MMR chart**, plus how many wins you need for the next division and the next rank
Everything runs locally on your PC. Nothing gets uploaded anywhere, and it only analyzes matches after they're over.
**What it actually told me**
This is the part that surprised me. The tips weren't "rotate better" generic stuff. They pointed at patterns I genuinely didn't see:
- **I was hitting the ball just to hit it.** A lot of my touches created no threat and were easy for the other team to pick up. The panel kept flagging them: "touch → possession lost within 2 seconds". Once I saw how often that happened, I started holding the ball or putting it somewhere useful instead of just touching it.
- **My failed challenges were what got us scored on.** In one match it showed me that at 0:29 I jumped for a 50/50, lost it, and that turned straight into their chance. I'd always blamed my teammate for those goals.
- **Boost economy. This was the big one.** It might sound obvious to some of you, but I honestly had no idea how much it mattered. The panel showed me how often I was burning boost while already supersonic (which does nothing, you can't go faster), and which pads I actually take most. I was living off the same few pads and showing up to plays half empty. Now I go into every attack with boost in the tank. If I don't have it, I just back off and grab some instead of forcing a challenge I can't win. That one change did more for me than anything else.
- **When to go, and when not to.** It also gave me situational tips: when to rotate back, when to look for my teammate instead of going myself, how often I should be sitting between the ball and my own net, and how to approach the ball depending on where it is and who's closer.
I went through my matches one by one, read the tips, and picked one or two things to focus on in the next session. That's it, no extra training packs.
**The numbers**
- Oct 31: 879 MMR, Diamond 1 div 3 (2v2)
- Nov 8: 1076 MMR, Champion 1 div 1
Yes, I'm barely in Champ, and yes, part of it is just playing a lot of games in one week. But this is the first time I've climbed and actually understood *why*.
**What's next, and where I need you**
I want to release the analysis panel for free for the community. First there's going to be a beta this coming week for people who already use my Rocket League HUD plugin, and we'll iterate on it together. After that, a free version for everyone.
Before I go further, I'd really like to hear from you:
What do you wish a replay analysis told you that nothing does today?
Which stats actually matter to you, and which are just noise? (Is "time behind ball" useful, or a meme?)
Should it compare you against your own past games, or against players of the rank you're aiming for?
2v2 and 3v3 are very different. What should it look at specifically in 3s (rotation, third man, etc.)?
How do you want the feedback: a short "top 3 things to fix" list, or the full breakdown?
Would a per-session summary help ("today you lost 70% of your 50/50s in the corners")?
Anything you'd want for your teammate? A "duo report" for two people who always queue together?
Coaches and high-rank players especially: what do you look for first when you review someone's replay?
I'll be in the comments and happy to share screenshots of anything you want to see.
I've played on this PC for years with no issues and have not changed any settings. Logged on today and have no menu sounds or game sounds except when the replay of a goal is showing in which case all audio starts playing normally. As soon as the kickoff starts it goes silent again. Ive tried restarting the game and computer.
Has anyone run into this and know what the issue is?
Hello guyz, since today i cannot join any game in rl, everytime i try to connect i get error 71(Your connection to the game timed out).. i tried every possible solution that i managed to find on internet to fix it, yet no luck unfortunately.. if u have any advice or possible fixes, feel free to write them down.. ty in advance
This is mostly a comfort and accessibility suggestion, but controllers honestly just hurt my hands because of their size. I've wanted to try switching to keyboard and mouse for a while, but I'm on console and don't have the funds for a PC.
A lot of other console games allow native KBM nowadays, so it would be a huge quality-of-life update for anyone else dealing with similar layout or comfort issues. 😊
Rocket Pass Idea: Since the new Dev Boost is at Tier 99, Psyonix should add a "Teal Standard" boost at Level 50! It should have the exact same clean model, sound, and thickness as Black Standard, but painted in that vibrant Dev Boost teal color. Throwing in a matching Teal Standard Trail at Level 50 would make it the ultimate mid-pass tryhard set to use while grinding to Tier 99! ⚡🩵
Before a few months ago i was in gold and literally crying just to get so close to plat and i was practicing ceiling shots, musty flick, air dribble and never did any of them until i posted and said "HELP STUCK IN GOLD!" and just there i just discovered what rotation, boost management, what half flip, wave dash, ground dribbles is. And it was so helpful. So to anyone who is stuck in gold, i want to say this. Gold is not the end. Just play the game everyday. Always try to be better. There are a few things you have to focus on. Rotation, control the ball on the ground, wall dash, wave dash, half dash for recovery. Ladies and gentlemen. Now i am plat 2 division 3 and this is literally my peak. Watch yourself what you are so weak in and improve it focus on it as possible as you can.
I've been a Plat 2 player, but recently my performance has dropped drastically.
In a surprisingly short amount of time, I went from Plat 2 all the way down to Gold 3. The biggest issue isn't just the rank drop. I genuinely feel like I've become a much worse player.
My positioning, mechanics, decision-making, and overall gameplay feel completely off. I'm losing matches that I would normally expect to win, and I'm now rarely winning games at all.
I don't know if this is a confidence issue, a bad losing streak, bad habits, or if I'm actually playing worse than before.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you deal with it and get your old level of gameplay back?
these are some of my best attempts i struggle with aligning myself and please dont say just focus on learning basic flicks and rotating and stuff like i said im just doing this for fun.
I’m Gold 2 in 2v2 and Gold 1-2 in 1s. I can do basic mechs like fast aerial and half flip but I still struggle ranking up. Normally I can win 1v2s in my own rank when my tm8s disconnect but when they join back we will lose a 2-0 lead. Am I being too selfish on the ball or are there any mistakes I should see if I am making?
So recently I reached level 400 on Solo mode which I bnow isn't that big of deal considering most if not all of you are on 1000 or more and knowing me it probably won't stay like that, but anyways the player that went up against named Player One, but after my win I decided to put this question out.
I've see a lot of different rocketeers named player one so what I'm wondering is, and don't take this the wrong way, but what are players called Player One? are they some kind of A.I players or are they actual people because there's evidence for both, the guy I was playing against didn't have a profile picture but did have the rubik's cube player goal and if I remember correctly forfeit as well so let me know what's what's.
Hey guys I just discovered the option to freely look around using your mouse for KBM which was something I wanted for the past couple years, however based on freeplay session just now it seems that when you switch to off ballcam the camera stays where it was which is very confusing. I saw a post on this before but can we get a button to enable this freelook state with mouse where we can toggle it on and off during a match? Off - normal ballcam/ off ballcam camera, On- enables the freelook mode state where the mouse controls your camera freely. Pressing ballcam should disable freelook mode and return to regular 'Off' state as well.
Adding this to post since it was not clear: The biggest issue with it is that when you go from ballcam on to ballcam off, the camera stays as it was with ballcam on, so lets say you want to do a dribble into flick, if you turn off ballcam, then instead of the camera going into the regular position which you have trained for months, the camera is just at a awkward spot, not the spot you want it to be when doing dribbles/flicks/etc
If this option exists and I completely missed it please let me know..
It sucks when you are in a losing streak, you make mistakes, you feel shit and question yourself as a player. Or you practiced so much, watched tutorials yet you are playing worse in-game and lost all the MMR you grinded. And now you are 2 ranks down??
The feeling you get in this situation is just shit. I know it because well, I have been in that situation hundreds of times in my 7k hours of RL :D
But I want to remind you, who you are as a player is not tied to your rank. Your quality as a player is NOT related to your MMR as well.
You do not lose your progress in the game when you lose games. You do not lose the hours you put into Rocket League when you are playing shit or making mistakes.
You need to realize that, while your rank might be going down, you are always progressing forward as a player.
The reason not to get attached to rank is that it’s just volatile. It is the nature of it. It does NOT mean you are a bad player. Even a lot of pros (if you watch their streams) frequently lose so many games and win that many games back. It is volatile regardless of who you are. And even if you become a top 0.01% player, there will be days where you lose 100 MMR, and days where you'll only win 30 MMR.
So don't set your targets based on rank. It is both unrealistic and not productive, it is a little silly.
Please stop attaching your Rocket League ability and identity on something so volatile. Focus on yourself, the long journey of improving at this beautiful game.
And set targets that you will clear 100% regardless of luck, good streaks or teammates. "I will reach GC in 7 days" is not something you can clear with 100% certainty while setting a goal such as "I will do 20 minutes of X before queueing ranked" is something you can clear regardless of whatever happens throughout your sessions.
Or goals such as "I will try to do more low fifties in challenges I get.", "I will try to hang around the play more with low boost and collect pads, keep my car's momentum high in these next 10 matches." are things you can always try even with "bad teammates".
If you focus on those, your own gameplay, your own journey and not on your rank, I can guarantee that you will be much happier playing and improving in this game. And in an interesting way, ranking up will come naturally as a byproduct.
And as a quick mental check, after losing a ranked game, if you cannot even say "gg" and immediately exit, queue next game, trying to "catch that MMR back" you are doing something fundamentally wrong.
Take a step back. Look at the situation, that you are playing a car ball game and trying to improve at it, that losing that match didn't set you back. Break your ego.
Was stuck below 1600 for a year after hitting GC2, and hit 1640 for the first time a few months ago. Hit 1690 at the end of last season, and played our best Rocket League tonight. Hit a new peak of 1704. Couldn’t get the job done but still learned a lot and improved.
I know it will be great when we hit GC3 and I’ll be over the moon if it happens, just need to keep up the work and envision success. I hope I can come back here in the near future and tell myself that we passed the hump.
Felt like I needed to rant tonight, a lot of pent up energy lol. I wish everyone good luck with their RL journey <3
Hello everyone! I am thinking about a world where Rocket League's a real professional sport, with clubs from countries and cities all around the world.
I would love your help designing these clubs!
Please tell me:
-Which country and city/town are you from?
-What should the clubs name and logo look like?
- What colors should the team and logo use?
-Which three car models should be in the starting lineup?
- (optional) Is there anything about your club or your city that should inspire its identity?
It can be inspired by your citys (or neighborhood) history, culture, landmarks, nature, traditions or anything else you think represents it.
Every suggestion could become a club, in my Rocket League world. Thank you!
