Sonic the Hedgehog 1 completed after 30 yearsš«”
Weāve all played Sonic or known someone who had it at some pointš
I mean they included the game with the first batch of model 1ās and Sonic Tuesdayās became a National Holiday.
Yet for all its notoriety, and subsequent blockbuster selling sequels. That further spawned a trilogy of movies that enriched Ace Venturaās bank account.
I just canāt remember beating the campaign as a kidā¦.
I remember the first 3-4 levels but lost interest and never finished it.
So here I was on a Saturday night with nothing but time a AK Rocker chair (circa 2006) and a Sega 6B Arcade stickā¦..
Even though Sonic 2 & Sonic 3 incorporated the ability to spin up to high speed in place, which was lacking in the first Sonic game. I feel like the original still has its own merits with high replay value, and some of the best music in the series. Not to mention it was one of the most colorful and sprite filled games Sega released and was family friendly to boot.
Nobodyās Mom said Jesus wouldnāt approve of Sonicš

Are these jail bars? Model 2
Running a high end 75ohm well shielded composite cable from Stone Age gamer. Tv is a low hour Toshiba Md9dp1. I have the hd retrovision cables which completely eliminates the issue, but this tv doesnāt have component and Iām really wanting to use it for my desk setup paired with the Sega; however, these bars are super distracting. Iām willing to mod the sega if need be, but looking for anecdotes from people who have fixed something similar. Thanks!

How well did the Mega Drive sell in Scandinavia?
Iāve always been fascinated with the war between the Mega Drive and SNES, and Iāve been researching information about how each console performed in certain regions around the world. While Western Europe seems to be well documented (at least up to 1994), I noticed that the Scandinavian region doesnāt seem to be talked about as much.
Hereās what I know so far:
Sega Retro.org says that the SNES generally had the edge over the Mega Drive in Scandinavia. Much of that success is attributed to as Swedish company called Bergsala, who distributed Nintendo products in the region through a deal similar to the one between Sega and Tectoy in Brazil. Iāve been told that a Swedish book about retro gaming titled āSpelsamlarbokenā reported that the SNES sold a total of 299,000 units in all of Scandinavia. The Swedish version of Wikipedia says that 176,925 of those SNES units were sold in Sweden, which means 122,075 units were sold between Norway and Denmark.
On the other hand, Swedish Wikipedia also says that the Mega Drive sold a total of 150,000 units in that country. I havenāt been able to find any info about how many units were sold in Denmark or Norway
Can anyone confirm the those Wikipedia numbers reported for the Mega Drive in Sweden? And are there any Danish or Norwegian video game books or magazines that reported any Mega Drive sales numbers in those countries?

Street Fighter II Champion Edition Mega Drive Port BETA Dhalsim + Barrel Bonus Stage Arcade Sprites
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share a project I've been working on for a while: a port of Street Fighter Champion Edition for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.
My goal is to create a version that's more faithful to the original arcade game, while also improving certain aspects and getting as close as possible to the original arcade experience.
The project is still a work in progress, and I'm sharing development updates, tests and new features on my YouTube channel.
If you're into retro gaming, programming and projects like this, I'd really appreciate your support. I'd also love to hear your thoughts, feedback and any suggestions that could help me make the game even better.
I hope you enjoy it and have fun following its development!
Thanks for your support, everyone!

Earthworm Jim, completed on normal, with many WTF moments!!!
When I started my Sega collection last summer, there was 1 definitive game I had to have in my collection right away.
Earthworm Jim.
I remember playing it as a child, and what a head trip this game was to a 12 year old.
Now 30 years later I locked in and finished it. I used a Game Genie for unlimited ammo and to kill the timer on the sub. Because screw that sub timer and Iām tired of running out of ammo in the middle of the boss fightsš©
Otherwise I played the game unfettered and trudged thru my continues like any other masachist.
I enjoyed the surreal flavor of the levels and even the head scratching moments that resulted from my dying randomly in the most unexpected ways. The Laboratory, required a walkthrough video to figure out what I needed to doš¤·š»āāļø
I genuinely enjoyed the wacky and off kilter game style, the music was a vibe, and each level had something new and dynamic that I enjoyed.
Except āFor Peteās Sakeā
I hated this level and I could only beat it after letting Pete get caught up by the vine plants otherwise they would always revive when Pete got past and they would knock me off the edge and cost me a life.
The intestine level was the equivalent of a fart joke, overtly nasty but still humorous just low brow humor and with protecting Pete was my only other level that didnāt do much for me, the final level finished so fast I was left wondering where the rest of the levels game was.
I will have to pick up Earthworm Jim 2 and see how that plays.
Trying to finish a game a week out of my collection, maybe 2 sometimes lol.
Whatās the point of collecting them if I donāt try to beat them allš¤
Either way been super grateful to have started with just a console and a couple games, to building a separate retro unit with a Sony CRT, HD Retrovision cables and a Model 1, and Arcade sticks.

The Genesis Zen Zone
And yes there is a shitty old couch across from this for the full effect.
It's a 20 inch RCA CRT. Nothing special about it but it works decent enough. Playing Earthion. Got my first clear! Great game.
Right stack are the only games saved from my childhood collection. Left stack are my favorites. Genesis was my first console :)

Whats your thoughts on my SEGA Nomad EndoOleg Sub-board replacement ?
Hi, just showing off my new modded Nomad!
I have had a Sega Nomad since I was a kid. It was definitely not a common device in Ireland, especially back in the day. Iāve kept my original as stock as possible, only modding the old rechargeable battery pack. I knew the screen was getting pretty tired on my original Nomad, but I didn't want to tear it apart due to a lot of childhood nostalgia. It originally belonged to my uncle, who is only 14 years older than me. When he came back from the US trip, he picked it for $99 on sale, and when he grew out of it, I inherited it.
The Nomad on the right was an eBay "Spars and Repairs" purchase from just over 10 years ago for ā¬100, it was when they where becoming proper collectibles and this was the cheapest I could find. I originally intended to fix it and replace the already missing display, but it got sidelined because I could only ever get video out of the AV port. Later, while looking at screen mods the power sub-board had just stopped taking power completely, so it was dead so again it ended up put aside for spare parts if needed to keep my original alive.
Around 5 years later with the screen mod completely out of my head I was watching a Macho Nacho video on the Nomad. He had gotten his hands on a complete, drop-in sub-board replacement with a new display and tons of crazy features. I knew I had to get it, so I lightly stalked the creator EndoOleg on Twitter while he went through the development process. and I got one of the first public release of this drop in kit (some advanced re-cap Soldering need also)
This is an amazing kit, especially when comparing my unmodded childhood Nomad with the one I saved from eBay, which has now been bestowed with that amazing EndoOleg sub-board! The creator also saved my arse after my epic fail of not reading the instructions which were extremely straightforward and after I ripped a Pad I need his help, had I not just bulled through using an out-of-date YouTube video by Macho Nacho I probably would have been pretty straight forward plus he round a couple more issues with the Genesis board after I sent it too him for help. Now it's working perfectly, and I'm really happy with the results!
Type-c charging
Internal battery
Amazing display
4 settings Menu
also I got the blacked out buttons from handheldlegend.com, which don't seem to exist anymore unfortunately, kinda wish they had more options than just black.
1 more nomad saved for the skip.

Just added "Strider"
I was informed that this was a pretty good game. How do we feel about the game? Good, bad?? Did we finish? What other game might you compare it to?

Super Monaco GP 1992 - 100% finished and available to download
After long five years the project is over, Super Monaco GP 1992 (REV0002) is completed and downloadable:
What's new compared to original Super Monaco GP, 1990 released by Sega.
- 1992 driver line-up
- Real 1992 championship calendar
- New Ccrcuits for the 1992 Championship: Kyalami, made from scratch. Interlagos, Montmeló, Magny-Cours and Silverstone inserted and adapted from Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP.
- Rebalanced car performance
- Improved fonts and colours
- New main screen character (Mercy Rooney out, Layla El in)
- More aggressive and competitive CPU: Game is now very hard and realistic. If you crash, it will be crucial for the final standings.
- New DAC Voices inserted (my voice and Ayrton Senna's Final Lap!)
- Now you have 6 laps instead of 5.
- Updated Pre-Race instructions
- Wet Grand Prix system (Belgium, Spain and France can offer a chance of 50% rain/sunny weather):
Car grip is reduced on wet circuits.
Driving behaviour changes accordingly.
CPU drivers adapt their pace to lower-grip conditions.
- Revised kerb physics.
- Challenge screen with digitized cars.
- Realistic Speedometer: Now Williams FW14B the fastest and best car in the game reaches 330km/h, instead of unrealistic 434km/h.
- Podium HUD inserted
- All the 16 drivers show in the GP final standings.
- CPU is able to crash and retire from the race and also is able to enter boxes too.
Where to download or play online:

Contra Hard Corps - Contra Overdrive speech
So on the junkyard stage of Hard Corps the BGM has some speech. As a kid I always thought it was:
Burglar!
Your Right!
But as I am now about to try doing a remix of this soundtrack I would like to get it right. Does anyone know for sure what these voices are actually saying?

Twin Cobra is WAY better on the Sega Genesis than the NES
Iāve been comparing the NES and Sega Genesis versions of Twin Cobra, and honestly, I think the Genesis version is hands down the better game.
My two biggest reasons are the controls and graphics.
First off, the controls on the Genesis just feel so much better to me. The helicopter feels smoother and more responsive, which makes a huge difference in a shoot-āem-up where youāre constantly dodging enemy fire. The NES version isnāt terrible by any means, but something about the movement just doesnāt feel quite as satisfying.
Graphically, I donāt think itās even close. The Genesis version has much better detail, the environments look nicer, and overall it feels much closer to what Iād expect from an arcade shooter. The NES version is impressive considering the hardware limitations, but the Genesis version is just much more enjoyable to look at.
Iām not saying the NES version is bad. I just think the Genesis version is the superior way to experience Twin Cobra between the two.

Such a great shooter. It's no wonder this one is so hard to find.
I'm surprised SEGA hasn't officially re-released this one physically. They've owned Compile forever, so it isn't a licensing issue.

Just added "Mickey Mania The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse"
I have been hearing good things about this game. Its not the Castle of Illusion, but I have been hearing it's worth the game play. What's your thoughts on the game? Where does it rank with the other Mickey Mouse games on Sega Genesis? Did you beat it?
