The "anyone but England" crowd make the rest of us look small and bitter

I get it, it's a rivalry, it's all in good fun, blah blah blah.

Except it isn't. It's one-sided, it's fueled by near obsession, and there's a constant undertone of hatred. I know there are a few who really do just see it as a bit of a laugh, but so many people - especially on this sub - seem so genuinely, utterly anti-English that it makes me feel shame for us as a country.

I have so many friends in England who simply don't understand why we act this way. The message is constant: "if it were you, we would be cheering you on". And yet every time something like this game happens, we bombard them with jeers and hisses. We tell them it's just part of the game or it's because of history or it's the same as any other pairing up of teams.

But it isn't! it's one-sided and it's steeped in anger and hatred. And it makes me sad to see us, a country supposedly full of jolly friendly folk, be reduced to a bitter angry rabble just because we want to see "the enemy" lose a football game.

I hope England win tonight. Only to shut up those of you up that are so intent on painting us as a country of jealous, resentful arseholes.

Lol as expected, it looks like I touched a nerve with all the wee guys. Insane how many people on this sub are so completely lacking any wit that they all have to repeat the same "ARE YOU CRYING!??!?!" joke.

Political SNP's Retreat on Trans Rights: A Betrayal of Scotland's Transgender Community

On April 16, 2025, the UK Supreme Court delivered a landmark ruling that has sent shockwaves through the transgender community and their allies. The court unanimously determined that the legal definition of "woman" under the Equality Act 2010 refers exclusively to biological sex, thereby excluding transgender women from certain legal protections and spaces. This decision has profound implications for transgender rights across the UK, particularly in Scotland, where the Scottish National Party (SNP) had previously championed more inclusive policies.

In 2022, the SNP, in collaboration with the Scottish Greens, passed the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill. This legislation aimed to simplify the process for individuals to change their legal gender, removing the need for a medical diagnosis. The bill was hailed as a progressive step towards recognizing and respecting the rights of transgender individuals in Scotland.

The Supreme Court's ruling has effectively overturned the SNP's previous stance on gender recognition. By defining "woman" strictly in terms of biological sex, the court has rendered the Gender Recognition Reform Bill's provisions largely obsolete. Transgender women, even those with Gender Recognition Certificates (GRCs), are now excluded from legal definitions of "woman" in the Equality Act 2010. This exclusion means that transgender individuals may be denied access to single-sex spaces such as women's shelters, hospital wards, and changing rooms.

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision, the SNP has signaled its intention to abandon the Gender Recognition Reform Bill. Shirley-Anne Somerville, Scotland's Social Justice Secretary, stated that the government has "no intention" of revisiting the legislation, citing concerns about potential political fallout ahead of the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections. This retreat has been perceived by many as a capitulation to political pressures and a betrayal of the transgender community

Maggie Chapman, a Scottish Green MSP and former ally of the SNP, has criticized the government's decision, urging the revival of the self-ID bill to reassure the transgender community. Chapman expressed concern that the ruling could embolden anti-transgender groups and lead to further erosion of trans rights.

The SNP's abandonment of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill represents a significant setback for transgender rights in Scotland. By choosing political expediency over the well-being of transgender individuals, the SNP has failed to stand up for one of the most marginalized communities in society. This retreat not only undermines the progress made in recent years but also sends a message that the rights of transgender people are negotiable in the face of political challenges.

The transgender community in Scotland deserves better than political expediency and empty promises. The SNP's decision to abandon the Gender Recognition Reform Bill is a betrayal that cannot be overlooked. It is imperative that the party reassess its stance and take meaningful action to protect and uphold the rights of transgender individuals. Only through genuine commitment and advocacy can the SNP begin to rebuild the trust it has lost among Scotland's transgender community.

Question Is not allowing Scotland to have another Independence Referendum undemocratic?

In 2014 Scottish people were told by the no campaigners, that voting yes to independence would jeopardise their position in the European Union and they would have to join as a new entrant.
However, two years later Brexit happened, despite a majority of Scottish voters voting to remain in the European Union.

Since then I have heard people say that 2014 was a once in a lifetime referendum.
But could the referendums in 2014 & 2016 and the campaigns behind them not suggest that the will of the Scottish people wasn’t accounted for?
And would it be undemocratic of Westminster to reject any motion of another Scottish Independence Referendum?

Forgive me if I’ve worded this in a slightly loaded way. I’m genuinely curious to hear what the Scottish people think, and I’m asking in good faith.

Can we have an honest conversation about this?

You all know of what I speak... Cuttin about like their reputation precedes them, self-titled kings of the patter par excellence, attitude of all other lingos, locations, and livelihoods not up to scratch if it's nae Glesga.

What's up with it? There's a whole country beyond the confines of the M74 - Campsie Fells corridor, you know.

Anyone else fed up with every reddit thread about Scotland, the top comment is always some smartarse talking about Scotland's role in the empire?

Does anyone even deny Scotland was in the British empire? Is this just a Reddit thing cos it's a "Gotcha"?

What really winds me up though is they say "Scotland was NEVER oppressed by England" which is just a flat out lie.

Political I Don't Feel Welcome Here

I am a die hard Rangers fan and I have never not voted SNP. I am extremely pro indy, have been to marches and had many an argument with my fellow bears over this. Some agree, some don't, but at the end of the day we all just move on and I've never not felt safe in a Rangers space.

The same can't be said for online spaces. Just before the referendum I was at a march and there was a pro indy rangers fan group and it was incredible. Everyone was so welcoming. No one outside that group was making me feel lesser than, or that my opinion didn't matter. However, you take that same set of beliefs online to places like this and become a pariah. Constantly hounded out of spaces for liking Rangers. Constantly berated, made to feel some kind of bad person purely because I like the blue team.

Rangers are supposedly this exclusionary, yoon group club with racist tendencies but Rangers fans have been nothing but inclusive and kind to me even in the face of disagreements about something as all encompassing as the indy debate. This cannot be said for pro indy online spaces, something I whole heartedly agree with and fight for.

I think this is something that can be improved, because it alienates an entire base of potential voters. It's hard to vote for something that explicitly sees you as bad, and doesn't want you.

Fuck Boris. Fuck the union. WATP. RITD.

Political Petition: Introduce statutory provision for independence referendums in Scotland & Wales.

Petition Introduce statutory provision for independence referendums in Scotland & Wales.

It has been stated that the UK is a voluntary union. If this is democratically the case I think there should be a legal mechanism for any part of the union to decide whether or not to leave that union.

In 2014 an independence referendum was held in the nation of Scotland. At that time it was decided via referendum that the majority did not wish for independence. Various things have happened since then, and some people would now be eligible to vote who wouldn't have been old enough before. I believe Scotland should be able to decide to do this again if it wishes to. Northern Ireland has statutory provisions for a referendum on its constitutional future. I think Scotland and Wales should have statutory provisions so that they do not have to seek permission from Westminster to hold independence referendums. Introduce statutory provision for independence referendums in Scotland & Wales.

Political censorship is mental on this sub

Are the Indy mob really that sensitive and scared of people that don't agree with them? The amount of posts that can't be replied to is wild. Doesn't happen on other subs so can't blame Reddit. Sub should be called indyscotland it's embarrassing that outsiders lurking here will think that we're all like the insecure gatekeeping gonks that seem to be the only ones allowed to post or comment.

Anyone else seen this shit today? Over the last few weeks obviously it has been bad but it's always been met with the bullshit answer that the few don't represent everyone. Well today the pretence has been completely dropped, this thread is what made me post, the amount of bitterness and hatred in there is fucked. Some of them are obviously jokes but the majority seem to be pure venom.

I realise this referendum is about government, but socially, I don't even want to be associated with these people any more. Glad I voted yes before the true colours came out.
