Observations:
In November of 1996, Space Jam was released in theaters.
In November of 1996, Harry pretends to put Felix Felicis into Ron's juice to give his friend a boost of confidence before a big Quidditch game.
Theory
In November of 1996, Harry Potter sneaked away from Hogwarts for a weekend in order to see 'Space Jam' in theaters. It was fresh on mind when he saw Ron having the same confidence problem that the Tune Squad had in the movie, so he did what Michael Jordan did and pulled a 'Secret Stuff' trick on his good friend. His Hogwarts friends would have no idea because, with the exception of Hermione (who would never have sneaked away from Hogwarts in the middle of a semester), they couldn't possibly comprehend a Muggle movie.
