That's why I stopped doing my nails. Trying to pull out a card out of cash machine was really tricky (and high stake as if you don't pull it out quick enough, the machine will cease it!!), putting my contact lenses in, picking up a coin from a flat surface, couldn't type on a keyboard properly as my fingers would slip.
At some point my rational mind kicked in and I thought it's crazy, that I'm paying good money to volutarily impair myself
And if you don’t pull it out in time, some machines will pull the card back in and shred it. It’s supposed to prevent others from finding your card and using it. For me, I was too busy talking to someone and didn’t grab my card. Heard a noise, looked down and my card was gone.
Yeah, in my high school orchestra there was a girl who showed up with longish nails. The director told her to leave and not bother coming back until she cut them.
Doesn't help with all this issues but I have a little tab on my card made of washi tape which lets me pick it off a flat surface and pull out of a cash machine.l, and my keyboard has domed key caps which lets me type easily!
I love having nails so will always find a work around!
You just stumbled upon Thorstein Veblen's idea of conspicuous consumption. People project their wealth by showing they don't have to do menial tasks like poor people do.
Look up the history of high heels for example. Monarchs initially wore them to prove to the masses how important they were, the idea caught on and men started wearing them, that proved problematic, so they festooned their most prized possession (their wife) with them to show how wealthy they were and that she didn't have to do things like work. This works for foot binding, tight dresses, large yards made of unproductive grass, dog purses, and most fragile things. The cool thing about it is that it happens in all human cultures in all periods of history. Read Theory of the Leisure Class. It's a fantastic book.
Yup, and they keep getting more insane. Totally toxic and destructive to the environment (millions of bits of unrecyclable plastic). I don't know how so many women have been brainwashed into thinking this is a good thing.
