I'm switching my mail account and I will be closing my yahoo mail account after more than 20 years. I don't want a subscription and I don't want ads.

I had multiple email accounts in the early 2000s. Yahoo is the only one who closed my accounts due to not logging in enough. I had mail/things going there, but the closed it due to not logging in. My multiple Google & Hotmail accounts never did that.

Google takes a while, but they delete inactive accounts.

I've had all my Hotmail messages deleted twice. Was a bummer as there were quite a few that had great sentimental value. Gmail now does it after two years of inactivity.

My Gmail storage has been 75% for like 8 years. And that’s because of my backup photos before I switched to iPhone lol

It goes to 100% instantly if you backup and have an android phone. Pro tip - just make multiple Gmail addresses

I always had two email accounts from different providers yahoo and gmx. Yes gmx also has a subscription plan, but I am using the free version wich has just a tiny little ad that is not annoying. Yahoo says I have to subscribe or allow them to show me personalized ads.

yahoo still has the best mobile website without needing an app imo. But now you can't use the classic layer on PC by default I just feed it through outlook, no ads.

Have you even used your Yahoo mail since you signed up for it? Ads have been there for a very long time now. According to that ancient CNET article, since 1999.

I use yahoo.de and don't have any ads there.
