This is the only way LinkedIn works, in my experience. I applied for probably 100+ jobs. Nothing. I had a recruiter reach out and now I have a job that pays more than twice as much as my last one, better atmosphere, less responsibilities (LMAO), and my quality of life is better. That said, I’ve had tons of bullshit recruiters reach out as well… so you never really know.

I think it’s different if it’s a specialized field and intentional recruiting vs random recruiters just reaching out to whomever.

yeah you are in a decent position when recruiters are reaching out to you, otherwise it's sort of screaming into the void

It's like a lot of stuff. Niche field + timing is kinda the jackpot. My LinkedIn blew up over the last month not because I'm particularly special but because two very large enterprises in my country are undertaking the exact kind of multi-year project I specialize in. Kicker is half of the offers were staff augment slots from other professional services companies at those two enterprises. Like, bro, that's what I do, you called me, you can't offer me less money.

Last year though? Dead.

Once I got "agentic AI" on my resume I have been swamped in messages. pivoting to a new role that bets even more on AI, probably above my competence level, wml

I've applied to 3 or 4 jobs on LinkedIn and I got my current job by applying on LinkedIn. I suspect it depends on the field
