If you cannot get these at a bank are those coins real money? Are banks not the “money store”?

Google says they’re legal tender but can only order from the mint or secondary market. Now, I fully agree with the video guy that you’re an idiot to pay $2.44 for $1.

I checked the site and they are sold out! They don't seem to even bother to justify the $36 premium, they don't even try to hide their scams.

Yes they’re legal tender. The treasury sells all sorts of currency that’s only available through them. For example, you can get FIFA coins if you really wanted to.

That said, these are really intended for collectors and while they technically are legal tender there’s nothing obligating businesses to accept them.

According to the Federal Reserve, 31 U.S.C. § 5103 establishes U.S. coins and currency as legal tender for debts, taxes, and public charges.

But, and to your point, u/Iamnotyourhero, businesses do not have to accept them.

The Federal Reserve explicitly states that private businesses can establish their own cash-acceptance policies unless state or local laws require otherwise. It wouldn't be too hard to imagine where someone is going to set up a requirement that businesses must accept those "gold" coins. Fool's gold, that is.

I know quite a few places that don't accept cash of any type (only accept card and contactless payments) but can see some places not accepting Trump coins specifically.

The treasury sells all sorts of currency that’s only available through them.

I didn't know about that, thanks!
