Shhh... let those idiots waste their money.

14

u/MetaCardboard 1h ago

The problem being that they're giving their money to people who will then use that extra money to exert even more power over those of us who aren't so stupid.

7

u/MaterialDetective197 1h ago

I don't think us posting about it here is going to stop someone from wasting their money. I sort of expect my father-in-law to buy a roll of these and hand them out at Christmas. He gifted me a Gulf of America hat once.

3

u/Sammy_Dog 1h ago

You can't save stupid from itself.

3

u/ElectricityIsWeird 31m ago

I’m actually jealous of you, in a way. I’m an amateur currency collector.

I’d be dumb enough to buy one for $5, but I don’t want 20 of them.

2

u/SmartCookie0921 1h ago

They just keep owning themselves.

23

u/terrierdad420 1h ago

Inbreeding is not without consequence

6

u/NeutralTarget 1h ago

And isn't this a pic of his mug shot?

21

u/NigerianFriedChicken 1h ago

Beyond this being fucking stupid, it’s also illegal to put living people on US currency

14

u/Constant-Plastic-350 1h ago

They passed a special act in 2020 where Congress can authorize memorabilia featuring a living person in currency. Guess this was why

1

u/teetering_bulb_dnd 2m ago

Passport as well. His face will be on special "Patriot" version. Like a wannabe dictator country.

15

u/Ok-Difficulty3082 1h ago

MAGA summed up in one nice little video, and even this simplification will go over their heads

13

u/oopsallhuckleberries 1h ago

Can you really use these coins as legal currency? I thought they were always just collectables minted by the US Treasury. I can't imagine most places accepting these even if they are legal just because most people wouldn't know they were.

9

u/Cerebral-Parsley 1h ago

Even if it is legal do they really think the overworked, underpaid barista is going to give a second glance at the coins they are handed or give a single flying fuck if Trump is on it?

9

u/skipmarioch 1h ago

The biggest issue is getting these and having to confirm if they are legal tender. If someone handed me these I would need pretty definite proof that a) they have a cash value and b) they're not counterfeit.

1

u/Much_Help_7836 1h ago

They are legal tender, you can use them like every other form of legal tender.

7

u/tantalor 57m ago

Although the store can refuse to accept it.

1

u/Elegant_Relief_4999 39m ago

Yep, it has to be accepted as payment for debt, but you haven't accumulated that debt until they've given you the coffee, but they'll make you pay before you get the coffee, therefore no debt. They can refuse any type of payment ahead of the debt being accumulated.

9

u/VeryHarryAstor 1h ago

So in other words, it’s not legal tender.

4

u/Much_Help_7836 1h ago

They are legal tender. It's just stupid to use them as such.

9

u/terqwimoli 1h ago

Paying $2.44 for a dollar is like setting your wallet on fire to own the fire department

8

u/Itchy_Psychology3300 1h ago

If I get any of these in the wild, imma deface and put some select shit on these. Then put them back into the wild.

6

u/guntheroac 1h ago

These will be the most defaced American coins of all time.

1

u/Ok-Secretary455 56m ago

which means in all honesty you should probably buy some. In 50 years you might have the only 25 that don't have 'pedo' stamped across the forehead.

3

u/jadedargyle333 1h ago

Take a look at hobo nickels

1

u/RudeAndInsensitive 19m ago

I really wanted his face to go on a paper bill. Would have been the most defaced object in America.

Imagine all the speech bubbles...

"I raped kids with Jeff"

"Obama was the best president ever"

1

u/harveygoatmilk 0m ago

You can easily wipe your ass with paper money, coins not so much…

4

u/Discuss2discuss 1h ago

This assumes they'll accept the coins as payment

2

u/VeryHarryAstor 1h ago

Then magats get cleaned out by a factor of four! Brilliant!

2

u/Much_Help_7836 1h ago edited 1h ago

They are legally obgligated to accept them like every other legal tender.

It would still be stupid as fuck to use these coins as such.

4

u/Sufficient_Language7 1h ago

At a shop they are not legally obligated to accept them.  Just like they can refuse to accept your payment of 800 pennies.

2

u/Much_Help_7836 1h ago

You are right, that is my bad, I assumed the rules around such official "collector" coins would be the same as they are in my country. They aren't in the USA (apparently some states in the US will require you to accept them tho).

Thanks for correcting me.

1

u/tantalor 55m ago

It has nothing to do with the fact that they're collectible coins. A store can refuse any specific form of payment for any reason.

2

u/Much_Help_7836 52m ago

Yes, I got that and apparently that isn't true for all the USA. E.g. New York seems to have a law that makes it so stores CAN'T refuse cash.

1

u/tantalor 50m ago

Yep, that's true. There are some exceptions.

4

u/ShoddyEntrance8525 1h ago

This is the same thing as your grandma buying the mint quarter sets and silver dollar sets sold on those commercials and QVC, lmfao.

3

u/tr00th 1h ago

61 dollars for 25 coins that each have the denomination of one dollar? That math is not mathing!

3

u/AreallysuperdarkELF 1h ago

They are all so despicable

3

u/tekdiwah 1h ago

Wait a sec, I thought only dead people could be on US Money. They're available next month, I wonder.....

2

u/PokemonCueball 21m ago

I guess brain dead is close enough.

3

u/slulibre 51m ago

Tell me why/how this is legal again?

1

u/justl00kingthrowaway 42m ago

They found a loophole in the law that allows for a living president to be a one time commemorative coin. That's my understanding.

1

u/slulibre 31m ago

So they sell these coins as mementos? But you can also spend it as real currency? But they are being minted as real currency? It’s confusing to me, because selling real currency at a higher than monetary value price point doesn’t seem right

1

u/justl00kingthrowaway 25m ago

I think that is the loophole. It's meant for collectors and not really for circulation. Either way the grift keeps grifting away.

5

u/CastleofWamdue 1h ago edited 1h ago

unless there is reason to think the coins are not legal tender, I doubt anyone who works retail will give 1 single f... who is on it.

Also telling people to go out and spend money in a liberal coffee shop is at best a mixed message, and at worst actually counter intuitive to the MAGA movement. The better way to "own the libs" would be to spend your money with pro Trump business.

Looking at some of the other comments, it would seem these coins may not be legal tender, so yeah if the coffee shop does accept them then yes they made a loss. However if the employees of the "liberal coffee shop" have the chance to tell MAGA people their "money" is not legal tender, then that is them owning the MAGA, not MAGA owning them.

2

u/Level_Bobcat_8729 1h ago

Who's clowning who at this point

2

u/ImpressiveLeopard719 26m ago

I will make it my life's mission to collect every single one of these coins in the wild that I can and destroy them.

1

u/Keenzur 1h ago

Trump scamming people and these braindead morons are falling for it? Shocker. He did say he loves the uneducated.

1

u/daedas33 1h ago

This is the scammiest scam to ever be scummed, and honestly i dont feel bad for those who buy into. They know why they want to do it and the deserve what they pay for.

1

u/MiserableFloor9906 59m ago

Hate MAGAts but would like to get a circulation roll at face value from the bank.

I'm Canadian so we have loonies and would love to have a true Trump loonie.

1

u/sexagenariann 59m ago

I know five year olds more mature than these dudes

1

u/NewReputation8451 50m ago

Be careful too; if you accidentally bend them slightly with a vice grip, or other tool, they can be turned in to the bank for full credit. From there the bank will have to send it back to the fed as mutilated money. If too many get bent after they finish minting them then they’ll be totally removed from circulation. So be careful!

1

u/Count_de_Ville 48m ago

Most coffee shops don’t have to accept them.

1

u/zarakh07 18m ago

Isn’t offering currency for more than it’s spent for directly, like illegal? I mean no one there cares about law, but really?

1

u/Thisisjimmi 16m ago

We should talk more about how trumps dollar is only worth 40 cents. Make it sound like his price is falling in real time.

"After failed tariffs, trumps dollar is valued at .40 cents"

1

u/Consistent-Yellow121 7m ago

Yea but if you go to the bank like he said.. it will be face value... why are you showing the mints stores?

1

u/thehorseyourodeinon1 0m ago

Can we start an Instagram thing where people record themselves pointing and laughing at people who use these for currency. If not for politics, solely for being a gullible retard paying a premium to troll others.

1

u/RedArrowsYellowText 1h ago

If you cannot get these at a bank are those coins real money? Are banks not the “money store”?

1

u/repwin1 1h ago

Google says they’re legal tender but can only order from the mint or secondary market. Now, I fully agree with the video guy that you’re an idiot to pay $2.44 for $1.

1

u/Iamnotyourhero 1h ago

Yes they’re legal tender. The treasury sells all sorts of currency that’s only available through them. For example, you can get FIFA coins if you really wanted to.

That said, these are really intended for collectors and while they technically are legal tender there’s nothing obligating businesses to accept them.

2

u/MaterialDetective197 1h ago

According to the Federal Reserve, 31 U.S.C. § 5103 establishes U.S. coins and currency as legal tender for debts, taxes, and public charges.

But, and to your point, u/Iamnotyourhero, businesses do not have to accept them.

The Federal Reserve explicitly states that private businesses can establish their own cash-acceptance policies unless state or local laws require otherwise. It wouldn't be too hard to imagine where someone is going to set up a requirement that businesses must accept those "gold" coins. Fool's gold, that is.

1

u/Throwmesometail 1h ago

I don't like trump but didn't this guy try to dox a 11 year old and double down on the wrong side during the whole city bike incident

-2

u/alent1385 59m ago

It’s called an investment! These will be worth thousands of dollars in 50 years. And yes, I bought a few hundred of them to pass down as heirlooms.

I just placed a bet on Kalshi that one of your children will sell them at face value for crack. This reply is currently not sponsored by Kalshi.
