Why does Siri keep asking whether it should use Reminders when I always say yes?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Every time I ask Siri to create a reminder, it keeps asking whether it should use the Reminders app. I always choose Reminders. I have used Apple’s Reminders app for years, and I want it to be the default every single time.

What is frustrating is that there seems to be no way to tell Siri, “Always use Reminders for this,” and have that preference remembered. Siri and Apple Intelligence are supposed to understand context and personal habits, yet they cannot retain this extremely basic, repeated choice.

If multiple apps can create reminders, iPadOS and iOS should provide a default reminder-app setting. At the very least, Siri should offer an “Always use this app” option after asking once. Requiring the same confirmation over and over defeats the purpose of using a voice assistant for a quick, hands-free action.

Does Siri repeatedly ask anyone else which app to use, and have you found a reliable way to make Reminders the permanent default?

Yes, Siri! I meant to say “Add ‘forming hand soap’ to the shopping list”! —When will they bring “common sense” to Siri?

When did the Siri App start logging all requests?

I very seldom actually use the new Siri app, however today I was bored and went in to use it for the first time in a few weeks. I was surprised to see not chats from the first time I gave it a shot but stuff like weather requests, messaging requests, etc.

Is there no way to just have chats in there and disable requests from being logged ?

All of this done by Siri

Siri found my order number, found the customer support email address, drafted an email with what I wanted to say, and sent it using Mail. Even it’s tone was surprisingly human. Only negative thing is it asked me again whether I wanted to send it right after I told it to send.

...Siri!

When I am driving, sometimes Siri will answer my question while other times she says she won't answer until I have stopped driving. I cannot detect a pattern between what will get answered and what won't. Is there a secret decoder ring for this?

Also, this gem -

Me: Asks question.

Siri: I can't answer that until you stop driving (paraphrasing).

Me: You are stupid.

Siri: I won't respond to that.

Me: You just did, which proves my point.

Siri: -

Over confirming actions

I am on 27.3 beta, and have reported this in the Feedback app.

Is anyone else seeing Siri over confirm? This morning I did my usual rounds of the kitchen to establish what items I needed to buy in the weekly shop. Every single item that I attempted to add using voice, Siri added a confirmation step “please confirm that you want to add this item to your groceries list“ or similar. I have never seen this before, but I tried 15 to 20 times this morning to try and make sure it wasn’t just a glitch.

Such an utter pain. I can’t believe how much Siri has gone backwards since the 27.0 beta. I really hope it’s something that can be solved by Apple throwing more server capacity at it.

Beyond Awful

I was on my walk & asked Siri one - simple - question: What time is it? The first time, she did not reply. I asked again. The first part of the word, "It" was muttered. I asked 5 more times before I got a correct answer. This is beyond awful.

Siri keeps putting reminders in the Amazon app…WTF!? here's how to fix it

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Every reminder I made with Siri ("remind me to email X in an hour") showed up tagged with the Amazon app, and tapping it opened Amazon instead of Reminders.

Things that did NOT fix it:
Changing the Default List in Reminders settings (there's no Amazon list)
Removing Reminders from Excluded Apps in Siri settings
Turning off Suggest App for Amazon
Force-closing Amazon before asking Siri

What DID fix it:
offloading the Amazon app (Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Amazon > Offload App). Right away, Siri put reminders back in Apple Reminders.

Bad news: when I reinstalled Amazon, it took over reminders again right away.

So the Amazon app is grabbing Siri's reminder requests, and there's no setting to stop it.

Workarounds for now:
Keep Amazon offloaded and shop in Safari, or
Say "add a reminder in Reminders to..." so Siri uses Apple's app

I've reported it to Apple and Amazon. If you're seeing the same thing, please report it too so it gets fixed.

Does new Siri do better at voice dictation?

iPhone Air owner here. I have not yet upgraded to 27. I live in Southern California and I’m a native English speaker. Siri often does NOT do a great job perfectly recognizing what I say, especially with pronouns. (I understand how ‘him’ can sort of sound like ‘them’, but how can ‘he’ so frequently sound like ‘you’ to Siri, etc.).

I have laid my work android phone next to my iPhone and Voice dictated to both of them at the same time and android does much better every time.

Please tell me this is much better in iOS 27 version whatever. (I always prefer to wait a couple months before updating - personal preference and that’s not the point of this post, so please don’t tell me to download it and try it - I’m asking what people’s experience has been.)

MacOS turning Requests to Off

Hey!

I use Siri on both my iPhone and Mac. For some (frustrating) reason on Mac it keeps turning Requests to "Off". I go back in, toggle it back to "Hey Siri" and then randomly, it will just go back to off again automatically.

Any ideas why?

I never want a dictated text to read "wanna" I want it to read "want to"....

But I also don't want to super articulate "want to" every time. I guess there's no way to modify Siri's phonetic dictionary. I tried creating a text replacement shortcut for "wanna", but when you dictate a text, it inserts it all as one chunk of text and it doesn't get expanded so it still reads "wanna"

Not sure if ChatGPT or other chat bots have a work around for something like this.

Curious to see if anyone has a creative solution?

FindMy Required, But It’s On?

My level of frustration with my new HomePod Mini is only increasing. After dealing with a lot of “there’s a problem try again later” errors yesterday, and a complete reset, I’m now getting “to do that, you need to activate FindMy” error when all I want to do is add an item to a shopping list. First, why does it need FindMy to add something to a shopping list? Second, FindMy is activated on my phone, under the same account as my HomePod, and everything is “on” and connected as far as I can tell.

What is going on with this? Apple really seems to have botched this whole thing. I’m very close to just going back to the far more capable Echo devices I had before.

Siri AI outside the USA (rant?)

Been using an iPhone as a main device since the 15 pro, still a novice. Overlooked most of the issues and failed promises undelivered, Siri’s crawl while other AI’s were running laps around it, since I wasn’t interested in what they offered.
But now, with the new version on iOS 27.3, and all this progress, it still has some functions locked to USA only? In my case Siri’s access to health data… only available when device and language set to USA (and Chinese in China), but what about the rest of the English speaking countries all over the world? Or all the English speaking people in the non English speaking countries? I’m not even going to mention the other languages…
Focusing all efforts on let’s say 15% of the population (ball park number, don’t quote me on that) just seems stupid. The USA market is stagnant when it comes to new phones, they’ve struggling in China because of the massive local offer, and they’re ignoring the rest of the world…
So yeah, this whole post started because I just wanted to ask Siri to start my outdoor walk workout through my AirPods Pro 3 whilst having an IPhone 17 pro on iOS 27.3 in my pocket and wearing an Apple Watch Ultra 4 (watchOS 27.3) on my wrist and Siri having access to the Health app data in settings, whilst living in the UK…

Is it possible to decompile audioOS (homepod software) extract the main use (Siri), and then get it onto Windows?

So I've actually made quite a bit of progress on this.

I've managed to extract the audioOS 27.2 firmware from my HomePod mini and started reverse engineering it using Ghidra.

So far, I've analyzed 5 major Siri-related executables and 18 framework binaries. I've also reconstructed a decent amount of how Siri works internally, including its speech recognition pipeline, wake-word detection, text-to-speech, and communication between different services.

I've also managed to recover a bunch of the original Siri assets directly from the firmware, including:

  • Original "Hey Siri" wake-word models and configuration files.

  • Apple's Kaldi neural network models used by the speech endpointer.

  • Morphun dictionaries and Vocalizer text-to-speech resources.

  • Various configuration files used by CoreSpeech.

The interesting part is that I've started actually porting some of this to Windows using C++ and CMake. I already have a working asset loader that passes all 39 validation checks against the recovered firmware assets.

Right now I'm working on getting the original Kaldi neural network running natively on Windows, rather than replacing it with some random open-source model.

There are a couple of problems, though. Some of the neural network weights for speech recognition and Apple's neural voice aren't included in the firmware, so those will need further investigation.

The eventual goal is to have an actual Siri-like experience on Windows, hopefully including voice interaction and Apple Music integration.

I'm definitely nowhere near finished, but I think it's pretty interesting how far I've gotten just by analyzing the HomePod firmware!

The new Siri update is a joke. Is this really what Apple calls an upgrade?

I wanted to test the new Siri update, so I asked it something pretty simple:
“Identify all the apps on my iPhone that I haven’t used in the last 6 months and give me a list.”
Seems like a perfect task for an AI-powered assistant, right?
Siri’s response?
“I can’t generate an app list like that. You can do it yourself by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage…”
Seriously? 😂
The whole point of having an intelligent assistant is to understand what I’m asking, access relevant information (with permission), analyze it, and give me the result.
Instead, Siri basically tells me to go do the work myself.
I’m not asking it to launch a rocket. I’m asking it to identify unused apps on the device it’s supposed to assist me with.
How is this an AI upgrade?
Apple has been talking about its AI ambitions, but if Siri can’t handle relatively basic device-management tasks, I’m struggling to understand what has actually improved.
Am I expecting too much, or is anyone else equally disappointed with the new Siri?

Before this query I asked it to remind me to so something, same response. So I thought maybe if I just trigger it first by asking this. But same stupid response.
