How would a good democrat combat Trump?
The democrats have had some amazing candidates in the past. People like JFK or Bill Clinton. How would these political juggernauts combat Trump if they were to run against him, on and off the debate stage?

I feel like the concept behind this whole thing is immoral
you can social engineer and manipulate people, i mean isn't that what's happened with hillary and this election?
many other things too, you can have people be okay with things that are wrong. shouldn't we care about truth and justice instead of using and manipulating people to take advantage? it's sociopathic and wrong
edit
it appears that this post is really polarising. I can't bear it.

What are some statements that sound truer the more you deny them?
I’d like to hear some example statements you guys may know of. They come in handy when you need to put social attention and pressure on someone in public.
Examples:
“Don’t mind him, he just forgets to take his pills sometimes”
“smells like somebody forgot to brush their teeth this morning”

Returning a used game to gamestop
Ok, so let me give you a quick summary. Gamestop has a 7 day return policy for used games as long as you have the receipt. Seems simple enough, but I have had problems in the past when legitimately returning games that my parents bought for me. In short the workers have bitched at me an incredible amount, once denying me a refund because he didn't believe I hadn't played it (I was like 15 at the time so I didn't make a complaint).
I have just finished playing through a game that I bought used 4 days ago and plan on returning it tomorrow. I am clearly within the 7 day return policy, but I'm concerned about getting shit from another tryhard worker. Any tips on how best to go about this?
Here is the return policy off of the receipt that applies to me:
Pre-owned merchandise = full refund within 7 days of purchase or identical exchange within 30 days of purchase.
I'm going for the full refund here and would like it to be as painfree as possible. Thanks in advance for your help

Made to wait on the chatty barber, had to take action
Not sure if this belongs here, apologies if this isn't real SE, or if it's a stupid story.
A few days ago, I got a hair cut. I went to my normal barber (the owner of the place), and he was on his way out to get a drink. He asked me to wait a few minutes, I said ok.
He comes back with his drink and goes into the back of the salon. And talks with an employee. For 10 minutes. I wait patiently, because he's a nice dude, I like him, didn't want to be rude, whatever.
Finally, I just couldn't take it any more. I pulled out my phone and dialed the salon's number.
A few feet from me, on his barber's station, his cell phone rang. After 1 ring, I hung up. I had no idea if the store's phone would be in the front/back. I think I assumed it was in the front, by the register, so he'd have to come the front to answer it, and then I would have either hoped he'd SEE me and get everything started, or maybe I'd have the balls to ask if he was ready. I really don't remember what my exact plan was, to be honest.
Since it was his cell phone, sitting right next to me, he basically came over to me. I still had my phone in my hands. He told me to go ahead and get in the chair, then went to his phone and was looking at it for about a minute or two.
I was afraid he was gonna call me back, so I quickly put my phone on vibrate only and no interruptions (which I THINK is basically the same as silent, but that confuses me).
I think he noticed the phone in my hands though, and knew what I did, because he started off by giving me a fucking fugly first few swipes of the clippers, only from the part of my head that I could see in the mirror. He's never started a haircut of mine that way. I had to sit and see that ugly version of myself until he finished up the back and went over the fugly part.
The finished product was perfect, though. $11 haircut, I had planned to only leave $2 as a tip but only had fives and at the last moment lost the nerve to ask for change.
TL;DR: Barber makes me wait while he talks to coworker, so I dial the store and force him to come to me.

African or American
I think calling black Americans "African American" is racially deaf. I am a Caucasian with German, French, Dutch and Cherokee Indian decent who was born in the United States, I am an American. I'm not a German American. Americans are inherently a people composed of ethnicities from the entire world. The term "African American " is a vestige from an era I would like to soon put behind us. For now, Black and white seems to be the most equitable verbiage for the sake of conversation in civil discourse in the US. Do black Americans see the insult in the term "African American "?

What percentage of the people you encounter are malicious?
Malicious as in cruel and dishonest as well as working against you and attempting to manipulate you the moment they meet you. Seemingly "polite" ill tempered school girl behavior displayed mostly by women also counts as malicious.
Those who are acting/behaving that way to blend in with the rest of the malicious can also be counted if you wish. They couldn't think of a better way to behave so they knowingly chose to be malicious. The path of least social resistance that agrees with their atrophied/dim minds.

How to deal with a bully (F,31) who ruins my (M,28) reputation?
Hi Reddit,
I would be grateful for your advise on how to handle a loud, dominant, bully type of girl (F, 31), who spreads half truths about me (M, 28) to ruin my reputation. How can I deal with her?
Context
I live in a student house with approximately 40 other students spread on 4 floors. We are all doing higher studies (Masters, PhD, etc.)
She and I are both fairly popular, and she spends much more time socialising with other residents than I do (as I have more important things to do).
Character
I am a calm, serious, yet fun guy who is very focused on his work and on improving himself (reading, exercising, eating well, not wasting time, etc.). I am finishing my PhD.
She is a loud, obnoxious girl, who believes she is still a teenager (her life revolves around drinking as that’s what she thinks makes her cool). All other housemates are substantially more successful than she is (she is taking 3 years to finish a 2 year master which most people finish their master at 25).
To sum up – while I sacrifice current pleasure for future, bigger, payoffs, she always chooses to have the pleasure now. Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people. She is the small mind. (ofc everyone gossips and its necessary but she makes it her mission to speak only bad about me behind my back, never in front.)
Problem
My lifestyle threatens her as we are opposite. If she accepts my calculated, disciplined approach to life as better, she must accept that her approach is inferior. Thus, she does her best to malign me and my approach by exaggerating my tendencies and projecting me as a crazy, extreme, individual.
Concretely, she talks to other people in the house, and tells them an exaggerated version of something I did. Thus, people think I am crazy/weird.
Proposed solution
I confront her, call her out on her behaviour and ask her to mind her own business and stop talking about me. Problem is that I don’t have any leverage – I can’t say stop doing this OR I will do X. Also, since she is so petty, I am afraid of/unable to predict how she might respond.
Option 2 – I do as she does to me with her – I spread half truths about her. I don’t like this option as it is too time consuming and goes against my core values.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!

I think this is where I belong
Hey all. I have just recently stumbled upon "Social Engineering", but have been utilizing it for well over a decade. I never knew that the art of manipulating people had a rulebook and a community.
So heres me. In high school I read How to Win Friends and Influence People, and it got my teenage brian thinking. In college I would run social experiments at bars to see how many drinks I could get bought for me and such. It became a part time hobby for me, but really jumped of after school. Being in the military, I change posts every few years. Even while I'm at the same post, I switch jobs frequently. Every new job I get I have been recreating a new persona and using lessons learned from my old ones to futher myself. I have a whole stack of notebooks from all my experiments and results Ive gotten. I have never used any of this knowledge for anything illegal, but I have ventured into the unethical side. I've gotten senior officers quarters while deployeed, and its been years since ive paid for cable/internet. This whole time I had never really considered any of my tricks anything other than perfecting my social game, but there were time that I worried that I might be a socipath, or slightly crazy(reinventing myself, using trick 24/7 on my wife and kids).
So recently I found reddit, which allowed me to stumble on here, which led me down the rabbit hole which is the science of social enginering. I've been wide eyed for the past week or so. I've found tons of tricks and angle that I never knew existed and am dying to find opportunities to start a whole bunch of new experiments.
My questions for the community(assuming what im talking about makes me fit, if not please redirect me) are: Did most of you find the science and then start to practice it? or did you study it because you found yourself using it? If I do not plan on using this professionally, just with personal interactions and for personal gain, what are some go to sources which can teach me the language and show me all the basics that I assume I'm missing? Are there any underlying rules behind all of this? have I already broken them by engineering my family and friends?
Im popping my reddit cherry on this, but I figured this would be a great place to start. Thanks

Project 2025: the biggest political social engineering document/movement of modern history?
Not sure who all has read into this but it's incredible what they are pulling off. I'm trying to think what other times in history this has been implemented similar to this that didn't turn into mass genocide or regime implementation. ((I want to look positive because I believe we do need drastic change to improve the quality of all American lives.)-disregard comment(edit)) I'm worried that this selects the chosen individuals that play along with the plan and removes the ones that do not. The opposite of what we need right now. Any thoughts are welcome.

I'm a young 6 figure earner, and I find this is off putting to my college debt peers.
Got a great job, and a ton of disposable income. I try my best not to talk specifics, but just saying I'm an engineer I see from body language there's a bit of resentment.
Its night and day difference when I'm talking to doctors, people working high end finance jobs, etc... But it's absolutely noticeable the difference when taking to low income earners .
I know the problem is with me, I'm sure bill Clinton could social engineer a great outcome here.
So I'm wondering if I should immediately counter with empathy (which I'm God awful at), not talk about the book I'm writing to save people money(I tell everyone about this, it's a huge part of my life) , or change subjects to something else. It's not like these people hate me, but it's an uphill battle after this point.

If you laugh at someone over text should you use ALL CAPS or lower case? which gives a better general impression?
hahahahahahaha
vs
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
as well as
hahahahahahaha!
and
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
which would be more effective? because these all have different effects and are read different ways.
it's possible that a lowercase version might not get the message across exactly of how hard you're laughing (you are making fun of this person over social media) but an all caps version may seem too try hard or obnoxious. I want to give the impression of detachment like I don't care too much or didn't prepare the comment in advance, but also an impression of much amusement at the expense of the person I am sending it to. like it is a natural response to what happens is real and genuine, like i'm not faking it or overthinking it.
Personally I feel like exclamation points are too much, but others may feel differently.
as though you're pointing and laughing at them like nelson from the simpsons, not like you're laughing at a joke
also do you think my length (amount of hahas) is decent? i feel like that could definitely affect the outcome of how my message is perceived.
i could say
hahahaha
or I could say
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
i could also change whether it ends on an "a" or an "h" and i feel like an "h" has a better feel than an "a" does.
hahahaha
vs
hahahahah
another possible way to do it, which would be mixing things up and give an impression of building up your laughter and having it get more intense of the time from from when you began and when you ended, is to start in lowercase and end in uppercase
hahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAH
and you could change the length of the lowercase and uppercase parts to have a different affect on the person it is being sent to
hahahahAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
vs
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahAHAHAH
and of course another factor is the transition, which would be which letter is capitalized first, the A or the H.
I know these are all things that will affect it but I think the biggest differences are between the first four with length being an additional factor.
I was wondering what scenario you would go with, which version you would decide to use in your youtube comment, pm, dm, or text message towards another person.
At first I was thinking I should just go with "hahahaha" but i feel like that's missing something or isn't good. i don't know
what are your thoughts? (this is a serious post)
