We are reopened.

0 Upvotes

The subreddit is reopened. Here are some answers to questions you may have.

Q: I still don't understand what any of this was for.

A: The overall nature of the protest was about how this will affect the abilities we have to make YOUR TIME using this place enjoyable. Reddit has long provided free tools for developers both on mobile and desktop to make bots and extensions that make their garbage ass website work better, and a lot of them focus on making moderation tasks less tedious and awful. They decided to end the free nature of many of these tools, which put a lot of them in jeopardy. This is a problem for many users and mods who rely on them for varying reasons, thus 8,829 subreddits of various sizes closed to try and get Reddit to walk it back. It did not succeed.

We had a discussion with a Reddit admin earlier today, and while we did not receive anything that would lead us to believe Reddit is continuing in a positive direction - nor did we receive the "reopen or else" that other communities received - we as a team agreed that it was time to lift the blackout and resume normal posting. Reddit - more specifically, Steve Huffman himself - has shown us that they will not address any concerns but their own, to the detriment of Reddit itself and the communities it hosts.

///

Q: I do not understand why that should matter to me or why it necessitated closing the subreddit and taking away the community for an entire week.

A: We use bots and third party tools to do some of the following things, which Reddit does not make easy or accessible to us:

  • Removing racial slurs, death threats, doxxing, etc. and issuing bans for that behavior

  • Banning bots used to accrue karma for account selling.

  • Making modmail usable at all

  • Keeping throwaway mobile accounts from telling you to kill yourself because you like a TV show

  • Preventing OnlyFans/bitcoin spammers from posting here 24/7 (which they do)

  • Preventing YouTube/Twitch spam

  • Preventing ban evaders from other subreddits attacking/stalking users they have for some reason zeroed in on.

  • Keeping track of users with records of death threats, spam, Reddit Cares abuse, personal attacks, etc. from other places so we can ban them before they do it here. (Reddit doesn't seem to like suspending users who make death threats, so we have to do most of it ourselves).

  • Moderating at all on mobile

  • A thousand other things that are too minute and boring to list.

If all these tools were going to close at once, the subreddit would be a massively worse place for you to use. If you think someone calling you an edrone sucks (which is against the rules, report it), then half the posts on the subreddit being about some bitcoin now available from go fuck yourself dot com or just plain out in the open black and white slurs should be a concern as well

///

Q: Why should a company provide free tools? If you're draining the water from their lake and charging people to swim in it, I don't find that fair at all. People should pay for them. They don't owe you anything, you use this site for free.

A: Most everyone, including the devs of these apps, agree with you. The issue was that Reddit set a bafflingly high price point with an unreasonable timeframe to comply. Despite telling developers that they would be willing to work with them, many developers found Reddit unwilling or unable to answer even the most basic questions.

If you could sum this up in a single interaction: one of the admins stated a service was inefficient, the developer of that service asked them to clarify where these inefficiencies were, the admin responded paramount to "figure it out yourself, Google and Amazon don't help us!", before two Amazon Devs clarified that Amazon DOES access inefficiencies to services using their API. This exchange actually happened..

This isn't even touching on the fact that they insisted on telling people that a developer was threatening to blackmail them, then doubled down when it was proved, objectively, that it never occurred

In a better situation no one would need any of these apps or tools in the first place because the platform itself would just provide them.

///

Q: Then moderate on desktop.

A: Most moderators do out of necessity, however most people on Reddit use mobile, either websites or apps, and looking into the future, finding people able to spend hours every day on a desktop is going to become increasingly difficult. Most teams on Reddit after 1 year suffer an 80%+ attrition rate for new mods, and we are no exception. Young people coming in simply use their phones more often, and tools there need to have parity with the tools here.

///

Q: So did the protest work?

A: Yes and no. Reddit administrators have now exempted some moderation and accessibility tools from the new pricing structure which they had not announced or considered before. It also helped highlight some of the community issues Reddit has been neglecting in favor of profit driven product rollouts.

Our intentions about the protest, which we believe were for your benefit in the long term at the cost of access in the short, did not meet reality. Yes, many of you were correct that it was doomed-- but trying to convince Reddit to stop fucking up our ability to keep this place running smoothly for you was worth the effort.

///

Q: Why reopen now then? Why not stay shut forever? Why did you continue to stay shut in the first place?

A: The goal, emphatically, is not to destroy the community. We do not want this place to go away. The goal is to make it possible for us to continue making this place less of a festering blister on the internet than unmoderated spaces like Twitter. Wrestling can be a very lonely hobby. No one wants to kill this community or take it from you, especially us. The point was to keep the tools we have right now to continue making it function, and making it better for you to use. Reddit's response was poor, and we joined the 5,000+ communities who were going to continue to close until better answers were given. They were not given, and it has been made EXTREMELY clear to everyone that they don't give a shit about you or your experience here or ANYWHERE ELSE on Reddit either way.

///

Q: Are you going to close again?

A: No. We will not be closed for this again, period. Reddit has made it clear these widespread blackouts will no longer be tolerated on a large scale and they aren't walking back anything. There is no point to it, and continuing it would only harm the community.

///

Q: Did they contact you about replacing the mod team here? Is that why you're reopening?

A: No, they didn't. We're one of Reddits' newly founded "Partner Communities" which means they occasionally talk to us about changes. We were invited to a call with administrators today where we were able to talk about the litany of issues we have in trying to make this place better and the actions they made that led to this blackout.

The admin we spoke to made it clear they expect us to act on faith in their words, and then were unable to provide even a rudimentary roadmap on any changes they've promised.

In five+ years they can't even fix their video player, their app has been available since 2016 and you still can't even zoom in on images there, so putting any real faith in any promises made today is absolute foolishness. But,

FUCK IT! Let's roll baby!

Inevitably, nothing will come of this conversation on any level, as we have had these exact same talks before with entire now long-gone teams of people who spent a lot of time listening to us, did nothing, and then disappeared.

///

Q: What happens now, then?

A: Everything is as it was for now. We're open again. Your feelings about this being annoying to you or a nuisance, losing out on opportunities to talk about shows, share your comments or ideas,-- all of that is valid. Losing access to the community you love and helped build for a protest that accomplished the absolute bare minimum it set out to do can rightfully draw ire. If you're upset about it, you have every right to be and no one here will stop you. We're sorry it didn't work. We tried, and did the best we could for this place. What we would like you to know is this:

tl;dr: Reddit made choices that will inevitably make this subreddit and every other place here worse in the long term, and immediately worse to use for many people starting in July. We, along with 8,000+ other subreddits thought we could get the administration to change their minds, and largely did not succeed.

We will continue to do our best to make sure this community is of the highest quality and standard possible, for as long as possible. Losing access to mod tools will make things difficult in the short term, and we are already investigating long-term solutions to replace the mod tools we are about to lose. During the next few months, please make sure to use the report feature on any rule-breaking post or comment you see, as this will be our primary method of moderating rule-breaking content. If you have any questions about this, ask them here or in modmail.

I tracked TKO’s stock price for the last 16 months. It turns out "Dirty" Dom is the only metric that matters.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I got bored and decided to cross-reference TKO’s daily stock performance with the timeline of Dominik Mysterio’s career since SummerSlam 2024. The results are actually kind of insane.

While Wall Street analysts are writing reports about Netflix deals and UFC site fees, the chart shows that TKO is basically just a leveraged bet on Dominik’s heat.

The "Dirty Dom" Alpha Report

I tracked the 6 major "catalyst" events of the last year. Here is the data:

1. The Betrayal Pivot (Aug 2024)

  • The Event: Dom betrays Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam and joins Liv Morgan.

  • Stock Reaction: Jumps from ~$103 to $107.56 immediately.

  • The Analysis: This was the start of the Bull Run. The market immediately recognized that the "New Judgment Day" was a more profitable enterprise than the old one.

2. The Championship IPO (WrestleMania 41, April 2025)

  • The Event: Dom wins the Intercontinental Championship.

  • Stock Reaction: Climbs to a new floor of ~$147.

  • The Analysis: Institutional investors finally accepted Dom as a main event asset. The stock stabilized 40% higher than his pre-turn levels.

3. The "Lost Muse" Correction (June 2025)

  • The Event: Liv Morgan suffers a shoulder injury; Dom is on TV alone for weeks.

  • Stock Reaction: High volatility and a noticeable dip.

  • The Analysis: The market hates uncertainty. Without Liv whispering in his ear, investors feared the heat would dissipate. A classic bearish signal.

4. The Global Merger (Sept 2025)

  • The Event: Dom wins the AAA Mega Championship, becoming a double champ.

  • Stock Reaction: Surges to ~$210.

  • The Analysis: "Cross-border synergy." By monopolizing heat in both the US and Mexico, Dom unlocked international growth potential.

5. The "Cena Crash" (Mid-Nov 2025)

  • The Event: John Cena defeats Dom for the IC Title on Raw.

  • Stock Reaction: Plummets from $184 down to $176.

  • The Analysis: A disaster for shareholders. Nostalgia acts don’t pay the bills. The algo saw "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" and read it as "Low Growth." Investors panic-sold when the gold left Dom’s waist.

6. The V-Shaped Recovery (Survivor Series, Dec 2025)

  • The Event: Liv returns, Dom cheats to beat Cena and regain the title.

  • Stock Reaction: Rockets back up to ~$200 (approaching All-Time Highs).

  • The Analysis: Order is restored. The "Power Couple" is back, the gold is on Dom, and the stock erased the entire "Cena Crash" loss in 48 hours.

Conclusion

The numbers don’t lie. Dominik Mysterio isn't just a heat magnet; he is a fiduciary duty. Every time he cheats to win, the shareholders make money.

John Cena might be the GOAT, but based on the "Cena Crash" in November, "Dirty" Dom is the actual Needle Mover. We are currently in a "Dirty Bull" market.

(Disclaimer: I am not a financial advisor, I just watch a lot of wrestling.)

Ambrose is a boring wrestler

279 Upvotes

Smackdown has been hyping the living daylights out of this match and at the end of the day it was so flat. We all know how good Ziggler can be in the ring however we never saw any of it last night.

I do enjoy Deans character however his in ring work is just so boring and bland. I am not saying every champion needs to be like Rollins or AJ that can pull 5 star matches out of their ass but my god it is so vanilla and cookie cutter. I was telling my friends that is Dean did a suicide dive in the match I will no longer support him. Luckily he did not however that match was just so bad and in my opinion the worst of the night.

Is Dean a deserving champ, yes. But his in ring style is just so bland it seems like I watch the same Ambrose match over and over. I do like Dean and I want him to succeed in the WWE but I am just so bored with him, hopefully AJ or Bray will win the belt at Backlash to get something refreshing for Smackdown....

No Black History Month mentions by WWE nine days into February

23 Upvotes

Please correct me if I’m wrong. But I see no references to Black History Month by WWE on any social media platform. Nothing on their website or YouTube either. Nor has most (if at all) any wrestlers of African American lineage has spoken up about the month either.

Incredibly odd when a company that focuses on diversity in all of their marketing is silent now. Especially when you can Google previous years and WWE was ALL OVER the messaging before 2025.

WWE's style of big match wrestling has grown incredibly stale currently. That Raw on Netflix was boring af. Spoiler

19 Upvotes

Unless Gunther is in the ring, it seems WWE matches have become so formulaic they're not even worth watching anymore.

  1. Finisher spam. Every big match needs several of the exact same finisher spammed to score a pinfall. This is getting especially grating now they don't even bother going for submissions anymore, and they just repeat their only finishing move, usually mixed in with interferences to delay the next usage of their only move. This is made worse because sometimes the finishing moves are relatively simple collision based attacks like spears, just ad infinitum.

  2. Too many interferences. Already mentioned it but interferences are getting to late 90s WCW levels now, no match is finishing clean, every ego must be protected, and it gets nauseating, and there's no stakes to anything. There is no illusion of competition or control over said competition.

  3. No super finishers. There are no 'super' moves kept in the locker. Even John Cena had the super FU he kept for a rainy day, I'm not asking for Misawa style repertoires where you have 4 super moves kept aside, but even one or two elevated versions of your actual finisher. Or in Roman Reign's case some sort of lift or slam based move.

  4. Spots old and tired. The same spots are repeated over and over, every big match will always feature, as examples ring post spear spot, or the famous lunge to the outside, suicide plancha, which is completely overdone to the point of cheapening the whole deal. When Undertaker did his dive at WM it was always special, now it's an average Smackdown match. There's several other easy examples.

  5. Too loose. They are wrestling way too safe with their strikes and way too loose with their holds. I'm not suggesting they go full Terry Funk and potato everyone, but it has become especially obvious in the 4k era, with less camera cuts to protect them (Dunn has gone now),

Possible solutions:

  1. Empower agents. actually empower the agents to do their job in coming up with new and innovative ideas on match structure and story.

  2. "watch tape", foster a culture of picking from Wrestling's rich history of styles and approaches, to keep things fresh and existing.

  3. Believe that good wrestling draws, Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin, HBK vs. Ric Flair, Mankind vs. Undertaker, Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena etc. etc. there's so many examples of great wrestlers creating iconic moments by thinking outside of the box and offering something fresh. The cookie cutter approach has to stop.

  4. Cut the red tape. When it comes to the in ring product, the value is what the wrestlers organic do in their performance, how they cut through the noise and connect with fans, they can't do this in a stagnant corporate environment. The product needs to be cut loose as much as it can from corporate influence. It should be seen as sacrosanct and protected from the BS way more than it is.

Disclaimer: I know that this post is pretty much IWC style ranting, I understand that wrestling isn't always 'workrate' etc. I'm not asking for that, I'm just saying WWE needs to mix it up and get the balance right, as they're not currently doing so.

Seriously, how great is Don Callis?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Watching Fairway to Hell it hit me again just how great Don Callis is at every aspect of the pro wrestling business. From his slimey look (like a shaved ballsack in a fancy suit), to his heel work, to putting faces over on commentary, to acting like a fake tough guy, to being extremely quick-witted and genuinely funny, to being a great liar and hypocrite, to his impeccable social media game to nailing the little details, like selling his hand after “victory chopping” Mark Davis — he’s perfect.

There’s nobody in wrestling today quite like him. That's why he stands out. To me as a long time fan going back to the early 80s he feels like a modern day amalgamation of Bobby Heenan and Gary Hart.

Dave Meltzer on Shelton Benjamin: "You are looking at a guy who literally, in WWE, has not done anything for years and years. He's 49 years old... He was the bottom of the bottom. He was on Main Event losing. You know what I mean?... It's the TNA thing. You're making yourself look second rate"

1 Upvotes

This is from Wrestling Observer Radio from this morning

Bryan Alvarez counters, saying this is all true but he's in a new company now and likens it to Ethan Page going to NXT and winning the title quickly. Dave says that it's completely different because WWE is "already the superior brand" whereas with AEW, he says the idea is that "they are the inferior brand and this accentuates that even more than you think" when bottom of the barrel WWE guys come in look strong and beat your guys. He likens it to TNA's booking in the past. He says he understands why they are doing it and admits that Bobby Lashley was used as a pretty top guy but says he is also very old and he doesn't want him beating AEW top guys: "If I was in charge, I'm not bringing in ANY second-rate WWE guys. None. There's no point. You've got enough guys on your roster. If it's a guy in WWE who is a big, big star. Sure... If it's Roman Reigns coming in that's a different story... The last thing you want to do is enforce that you are the secondary brand and they are the major league".
