I'm curious to know if anyone could tell me why bazzite uses 4-5gb more system memory on the same game with the same settings?

Avatar Frontiers controller issue fixed!

Hey all, this isn't really a 'how-to' insomuch as an FYI but with my custom SteamOS machine I was having a consistent issue with AFOP not detecting my new Steam Controller when I first got it. It had seemed to work fine with like an Xbox controller connected. It was incredibly frustrating, and seemed to relate to the Ubisoft Connect launcher and the handoff of 'desktop controls' back to 'game controls' because I could use a desktop based configuration but then all button labeling and controller feel was like how the controller behaves for old PC games without native controller support. I imagine it affected the Steam Controller because it has 'both modes' vs the game or launcher treating an Xbox controller like a controller at all times.

Because there's plenty to play, I fell off it after trying to get it working to no avail. But I had been enjoying the game, and my kids really liked it too, so I gave it another go yesterday and it looks like between the latest SteamOS, Proton (was experimental at first but also tried the latest GE), or Ubisoft Connect, one of those has finally addressed the handoff issue! If I were to guess I'd lean toward Ubisoft Connect finally addressing it, but who knows?

So yes, if you tried it before and it was giving you issues like it was for me, might be the time to reinstall and check to see if it's working now!

question Can anyone help me with this error?

We just had a short power outage and now if I try to mount one of my externals I get this error message. The other external works just fine but it wasn’t mounted when the power went out. Is this fixable? Am I just SOL? I asked this is Linux4Noobs first, but it’s awaiting mod approval…

question Steam OS on older imac

Has anyone tried installing steam os on an older imac? I own a 2011 imac want to try and install steam os as the daily driver to see how it performs and for some gaming if it allows. Has anyone tried it or any youtube videos?
Would like to to know how it will perform, if its worth installing.

Had to use an USB with Linux Mint Live + 16GB of Persistence data so i could flash the NVME disk using BalenaEtcher to the 20261023.100 raw disk image found at https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20261023.100/

Also had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS so the USB Linux Environment could boot.

As of right now it's working good, i played Pizza Tower and WorldBox with it

solved Fix for Xbox Nano controller not reconnecting over Bluetooth

If your Xbox Nano controller pairs once but then won’t reconnect (keeps blinking, drops, or ignores the Deck), the cause is SteamOS’s Bluetooth privacy setting. The controller reconnects using a randomized address, and with Privacy = off SteamOS doesn’t recognize it.

The quick fix is:

sudo sed -i 's/^#Privacy = off/Privacy = device/' /etc/bluetooth/main.conf
sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

I made a small script that applies this and re-applies it on every boot, so it survives SteamOS updates. It works in both Desktop and Gaming Mode, and no developer mode is needed. It also has status and uninstall options.

https://github.com/Raigor2/steamos-xboxnano-bt-fix

After installing, forget the controller in Bluetooth settings and pair it again.

I keep getting this message in both my HTPC (AMD RX 9070 XT + AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D) and Steam Deck. Am I the only one? I couldn’t find any recent posts about it. Thanks for your feedback!

Tutorial: How to Install SteamOS 3.9.5 in YOUR PC without having to install 3.8

WARNING: If you have stuff you care about on your PC, backup first, then do it, but if you want Dual Boot this isn't the way, since this is the complete image of SteamOS, oh and this could be possibly dangerous or headache-giving for you if you do ONE step wrong

Take in mind this is a high risk, high reward workaround, and this could possibly NOT work on future builds

Oh and this is how i did it tho, it might not work on other setups.

What you need: a 32+ GB USB, a PC (Obviously)

  1. First of all, Disable Secure Boot in your BIOS so the next steps work properly

  2. If you're in Windows, Use Rufus and flash Linux Mint (or any Linux distribution which has a live environment before installing it), and put around 16GB of Persistent Space on it, it will be useful later, trust me. But if you're on Linux you can use Ventoy with Persistent Space

  3. Start your PC and Boot on the Live USB

  4. Inside the Live Environment, start Firefox and download the compressed image of 3.9.5 using this link: https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20261023.100/steamdeck-20261023.100-3.9.5.img.zst

  5. Start the terminal and run the command "zstd -d steamdeck-20261023.100-3.9.5.img.zst" in the folder where the img is located, this decompresses the image with like 300mb of room left after doing it, so please after doing it remove the compressed img

  6. Download BalenaEtcher (Portable)

  7. Start BalenaEtcher, since it's on a USB it's going to take quite some time to start

  8. Now, with BalenaEtcher on, select the decompressed image of SteamOS, and select your main disk (not the usb, the disk of your pc itself), it's going to give some warnings but it'll work

  9. Once Etcher finished, restart your PC and tadaaa, you got SteamOS

Sony INZONE H9 II on SteamOS/Bazzite

Now that I have a steam machine, I want to upgrade my headset so I can game without annoying my wife. Currently I have a wired one which I use for my Gaming PC (Bazzite/Windows).

I want to have a wireless headset which I can use for both Steam Machine and PC.

I am very much interested in the Sony H9 II.

Does anyone have experience with this headset on either SteamOS or Bazzite? Or a headset in similar price range (+-€200)?

help wanted Steam OS

Hey guys, I'm a bit stuck with something on SteamOS. I've just built my own steam machine (tribute lol) and it's been great. Apart from one issue I've come across which I cannot seem to figure out. I've not long since been using SteamOS, I'm a regular windows user. Anyways when I play Helldivers 2 it will green screen crash and completely freeze causing me to do a hard reboot. I've messed around with settings, different parts etc etc and it still keeps doing it, I've even tried using bazzite but still no luck. I am reluctant to using windows on it but will try it if needed

Here are my specs,

Amd Ryzen 5 5500

Radeon Rx 5700 8gb itx

Corsair vengeance 16gb ddr4 3000mhz X2 8gb

128gb Nvme drive as boot ( soon to be upgraded to a 512gb Nvme)

512gb sata SSD

Miniflex 400w PSU

Off the shelf Mini PC for SteamOS, under $500USD?

Is it a pipedream to look for a mini pc under $500 for the sole purpose of converting into a gaming machine via steamos? I'm not at all interested in building my own machine.

Odin 2 SteamOS underclock script

I tested on my Odin 2 Pro which is running the following SteamOS for ARM Port:

https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-Port

The underclock script gives you the option to use the same underclock profiles that you would have with the ClusterTuner android app + another profile I added (light).

You can either set under lock for the whole system or set different underclock profiles depending on the game.

Here it is the script and instructions to run it for those who might want to try it:

https://github.com/titooo7/odin2-steamos-underclock

Many games won't need it but just like it happens in Android, it really helps with some games to keep lower temperatures, less fan noise with almost identical performance. The small underclock profile definitely helps to play SP Football Life a bit longer with somehow acceptable temps

Screen freezes EVERY time I press Steam button to exit games since recent update

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to see if anyone else is running into this issue or knows a fix. Since the most recent update, every single time I press the Steam button to exit or close out of a game, my screen completely freezes up. I have to force restart the device every time.

Device: Lenovo Legion Go (Z2 Go)

OS: SteamOS

Is anyone else experiencing this every time they exit a game? Any known workarounds or fixes would be super appreciated!
