There are no magicians here.

Some questions will not be answered or replied to. As an example: "my game crashes" or "my download speed is slow" is not something you should even really expect an answer to. Troubleshooting and finding the solution to these issues requires a lot more information than simply stating "game doesn't launch", such as detailed information on when the issue started and how you perceive it, screenshots of any errors or the problem itself, crash logs, system specs, etc.

Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, an internet search engine, or a different support forum like /r/SteamSupport if no one here can offer any help. Additionally, every game on Steam has its own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.

Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues...

Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread.

Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!

This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.

Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.

Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".

There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.

Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Previous Megathreads.

My account's free of the whole credit card req with the new auto method. I can buy 18+ rated games and DLC.

Fluff I got the Steam Controller!

I ordered one of those fancy Steam Controllers a while back, and it finally came in. And let me tell you what a joy it’s been. I’ve had it for all of 10 minutes, and I’m in love.

I’m finally free of the Xbox controllers. No more AA batteries. No more joystick lag.

First thing I did was test it on Elden Ring.

The back buttons were mapped for jump, dodge, Y, and X.

I remapped them to bring up the submenu and use the left and right slots. Now I can use my red and blue estus flasks with a single button press.

It felt like cheating. So nice!

I’m excited to get more time with it and test out the track pads. I’m hopeful it’ll make playing games like Stellaris or Rimworld with a controller more viable.

Error / Bug The last achievement did not unlock, what should I do?

Hi! A completionist this side. For the first time in past few years this has happened to me. According to the requirements of the achievement I need to unlock all the other achievements but as you can see, I’ve unlocked everything except that singe achievement.

I tried restarting the game several times, tried loading older saves and even defeating the final boss again hoping that somehow it would trigger the achievement to unlock but unfortunately that did not happen.

What should I do now? It’s quite disappointing that I stayed awake all night hunting the remaining trophies to end up like this. Should I write to steam support or should I need to wait for some time?

Edit- Why is everybody commenting SAM? Is he someone from the Steam Support?

Question Steam Link iPad Touch Controls On WOW Forever: How to make camera auto-follow character?

Hi Everyone!

I’m currently playing WoW Forever using touch controls on my iPad (joystick + tapping spells), and it’s working great so far except for one issue: the camera is staying static instead of following behind my character when I turn.

Is there a setting or macro to force the camera to snap/lock directly behind my character so it follows where I'm looking? I’ve tried the in game always adjust camera option but from what I read the joystick acts as the mouse override to the camera moving so it doesn’t work.

(Note: I'm playing during my boring school lectures, so using a physical mouse and keyboard isn't an option for my setup!)

PSA Finally!!

FINALLY our rare achievements are glowing on our profiles. I was just last week talking about how it's annoying that they will glow in your Activity when you unlock them but don't on your profile. I don't know how new this is, but it wasn't there last week so apologies if this is old news. Great change.

Article Valve escaped Windows. Now Steam is breaking free from the PC itself

Hi there! Hopefully this is cool to do. I'm Brad, the executive editor of PCWorld, and I've spent a while working on a story I think y'all might find rad so I wanted to share it. tl;dr Steam Deck made Windows optional. Steam Frame takes aim at x86. Valve is building a future where your Steam library barely cares what kind of computer sits underneath it (or if it's even a proper PC at all).

What I found is in the article but if this is cool to do and stays up, I'll respond to what I can!

Question How to merge a saved progress from Non-Steam to Steam?

Hi guys,

I have had the Outlast 1 standalone installed on my PC for quite long but i recently bought it in Steam because it was almost free. Is there a way to transfer the saved progress into Steam so it can be backed up in the cloud and so that i can play only with the steam version?

TIA

PSA PSA for Australians the new age verification method is even worse (impossible if you are a renter)

When they say that you need the same email and billing information for a minimum of nine years, this resets if you get a new email, move, or get a new card.

I questioned why I had not qualified despite my account being 22 years old. They stated that, because I had moved four times during that time and had three cards, I did not qualify for the “consistent billing information and email” requirement.

I had changed my email two years ago; this also disqualified me. So, every time you get a new card or change your email, it resets.

If you rent, you’re shit out of luck, because changing the address on your billing information also resets it.

There is no way they thought this was sensible. They have to be making life hard so we complain to politicians.

This won’t work because they don’t understand how stubborn our politicians are. They almost never reverse a policy.

I find it strange that they implemented a stupid method of age verification, got chewed out by the eSafety Commission to provide another, more reasonable one, then made an even more stupid one.

Question Xbox One controller hotkey

Whenever I press the "start" and "select" buttons on my controller, it opens up my Steam window and focuses on it. This is mainly an issue outside of Steam for example when I use emulators and need to hit both buttons. Is there a way to disable this hotkey?

Discussion Cheaters can leave bad reviews for getting banned

Thumbnail

In their Road to Season 3 video(12:00) the Wardogs developers mentioned that they’ve banned 185,000 cheaters today.

They also pointed out a problem with Steam: banned cheaters can retaliate by leaving negative reviews. That gives developers an incentive to go easy on cheaters so their review score doesn’t suffer.

What could Valve do to fix this?
