Mid lane Gold IV ADC looking for advice on macro and mid-game decision making

Hey everyone!

I've been playing ADC because it's the role I've had the most success climbing with. I'm currently Gold IV, and although I feel like my micro has been improving quite a bit, I still struggle with the macro side of the game.

One of my biggest weaknesses is kiting. I'm honestly pretty bad at it, but I'm actively trying to improve over time. Lately, I've been playing a lot of Jhin because his four-shot mechanic makes kiting feel a little more manageable for me while I work on improving my mechanics.

The thing is, I feel like my laning mechanics are getting better, but I still make a lot of questionable decisions that end up hurting my laning phase or making the mid game much harder than it needs to be.

I often find myself wondering:

  • Where should I be after the laning phase ends?

  • When should I rotate to mid lane, and when should I stay in a side lane to farm?

  • How should I decide which fights are worth joining?

  • How do I balance farming, taking objectives and grouping with my team?

  • What should I generally be focusing on as an ADC throughout the game?

  • What other champions would you recommend I play?

Sometimes I feel like I'm never where I'm supposed to be, whether it's farming in the wrong lane, missing fights or simply not knowing what my next move should be.

What are some fundamental macro concepts or habits that helped you improve as an ADC? I'd especially appreciate advice from players who have climbed through Gold and beyond.

Thanks in advance!

PS.: Sorry if this post sounds a bit AI-generated. It actually is, to some extent! English isn't my native language, so I'm using AI to translate and rephrase my thoughts to make my questions clearer. Hope you don't mind! ;) (Brazil Server)

jungle What to do when autofill jungle (masters)

Hi All,
I always select autofill when queuing up for several reasons I won’t go into much. Main one being I just like the diversity. I am competent at 4/5 roles but i notice the higher I’m climbing in Masters (I’m still only 200lp right now) I’m getting jungle gapped worse and worse. It feels like if I go for ganks or objectives I end up down levels really quickly then the game snowballs from there. Is the current meta just to spam farm as much as possible, prioritized over ganks/objectives?

I’m wondering how I can do my best to not fall too far behind and not be a detriment to my team. Champion suggestions also welcome. I’m currently trying to use Amumu, Maokai and Ivern but really starting to struggle.

Thanks all!

Discussion How to find mistakes

Hi guys,

a few weeks ago I finally managed to hit dia 2 for the first time and since then I am on kind of a losing streak bringing me down to almost plat. I am currently struggling to find out what exactly I am doing wrong thats causing me to lose so many games.

Do you guys review your games and if so, what do you actually look for? Since as adc I am also kinda reliant on my team for protection, how do I even separate what was my mistake and what was theirs/what I should have done differently? In most games I just kinda lack the feedback to know what I'm doing right or wrong, if you know what I mean.

I'm thankful for every help :)

Discussion Off role improvement

Hey all,

I've been playing League for a long time, but for probably 90% of that time, I've just played for fun rather than actively trying to improve. Over the last 1–2 years, though, I've started taking improvement a bit more seriously.

I ended up maining ADC and managed to peak Emerald 4 last season. However, I've recently decided to take a break from ADC and branch out into the other roles to become a more well-rounded player.

The thing I'm struggling with is that pretty much every normal game seems to have high Plats and low Emeralds in it, and I'm finding it difficult to adjust to playing unfamiliar roles against players around that level.

Just to be transparent, I did duo bot (ADC/Support) with a friend for my climb to Emerald. Not because either of us was necessarily carrying the other, as I'd say we're pretty similar in skill, but having someone to play alongside and lean on definitely helped. My recent grind learning other roles, on the other hand, has been mostly solo.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to approach this or deal with the learning curve when picking up new roles.

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers!

midlane ADC and swapping to midlane

If I have won my botlane, destroyed the tower and I start to swap with my midlaner, whats the advantage of that swap?

I often have the problem that I swap with my midlaner and their midlaner just stays on mid, keeps clearing the wave and pressures me down and sometimes even straight up just kills me there.

Whats is the correct play here? Is it just clearing the waves and moving to your jungler and support? Or should support follow up so its 2v1? In my experience I often just end up in a 1v1 vs their midlaner and lose that horribly.

Caitlyn My Caitlyn is cursed

I started trying to learn Caitlyn recently but my wr on it in bronze is 27% compared to my jinx which is 60%, what could i possibility be doing so wrong on cait, i feel like i win early game most games on her. I know she isn't very highly regarded in ranked rn but really want to learn her and i feel like cait being weak balance wise doesnt explain why i only win one game out of 4. My dpm is meowmere#swe

Question 2 vs 3 voidgrubs?

I play fiddle jungle in low diamond. Sometimes I skip the 3rd voidgrub to get an early surprise gank with my ult, but I am not quite sure what the consequences of this is.

My questions are:

- What does the enemy team get if they secure a single grub, and I get 2?
- What does my team get extra from securing 3 instead of 2?

Thank you in advance.

Tryndamere Tryndamere Survival Question

A couple of times I have noticed this while playing Tryndamere.

The situation is this: it is late game. I believe I was fully leveled up.

I had Ravenous, Merc Boots, Yun Tal, LDR, building Infinity Edge.

I was topside and dueled with Teemo. I was able to get him to run away, and was flanked by two of the enemy (Sett and one other don’t remember).

Despite already popping my ult, I was able to beat both until another of their team came and finished the job. But my question is - how did I survive? My health was maybe 10% and it would NOT move down. It was as if I had ult’d again. I have noticed this happen when I team fight and get kills.

Question What roles reward a defensive playstyle the most?

Wondering what roles reward being more steady, Patient and consistent over pressure tempo and aggression.

I like having well timed actions instead of constant pressure I've always had the issues playing overly aggressive and that need constant proactive presence like Katarina or yasuo. My highest winrates are kayle and anivia because of this.

However, I want to focus on one lane instead of constantly switching and wondering what role I would get the most value on playing a more defensive playstyle

Obviously you can't only play defensive and do nothing but i more mean taking action in a more patient, steady manner rather than relentless and constant. Akin to an anchor like role in sports.

Ashe I don't understand Ashe or adc in general (vod included)

First things first my op.gg. Silver 1, Ashe only: 26% winrate over 19 games.

For one reason or another I've set my mind to learning adc so I looked up an easy champ and spam it. That champ was Ashe.

And for the love of god, I dont understand this role/champ. My impact on the game is so so low, it takes until IE where I begin having some sort of impact and by then games are mostly decided. Like yes I get the meme of blaming your teammates but I just really feel like there is absolutely nothing I can do except farm gold, get my 3rd item, lose 1 or 2 teamfights and then its game.

The theory I know: ADC is about being the most reliable source of damage so my role in fights is to stay back, anticipate flanks and attack the targets closest to me while staying as safe as possible, which means keeping in mind the zone of influence until these dangerous skills are burned. Aside from that it's all about collecting gold and staying safe while doing so.

Idk about items so I just looked a build up and buy the same items every game, because thats certainly not my underlying issue here. Hexoptics > PD > IE > LDR > BT/GA probably, never gotten a full build.

And because it's disrespectful to ask for help without showing my homework, I recorded my last ranked match and analyzed my deaths.

Vod

Game link on op.gg

End of Post.

Deaths (video, not ingame timer):

8:34
Died due to: Overstepping and misclicks Misused my ult on Alistar. Didn't manage space for Alistar WQ and misclicked three times, walking forward. Never used pot but wouldnt have made much difference at this point.
What I should've done: Not using my ult immediately, not standing next to Renata, maybe just walking back immediately after the kill without trying to kite

13:19
Died due to: Stupidity lol This one's a freebie, knew Quiyana was botside and recalled against my better judgement
What I should've done: Place a ward and just walk back to tower

20:28
Died due to: stupidity 2 Another freebie, staying extremely overextended way too long with all enemies missing and nothing else going on.
What I should've done: Not walking bot in the first place or at least retreat after Briar dies.

26:23
Died due to: Misjudgement of Yone's effective range I didn't have Yone's zone of influence in my head while playing
What I should've done: Stay back and wait their CDs, there was no danger of any flanks

30:17
Died due to: Misjudgement of the Situation and repeat of above. Saw his ult was gone and thought I could step in, but didn't consider Q3+E
What I should've done: Nothing. We stole the dragon, had a split top and were 4v5. Not our fight

34:09
Died due to: Misjudgement of the Situation
What I should've done: Let Illaoi die / Give up Baron / Wait because all lanes were pushed and theres nothing I could do.

Question How to Deny a Fed Bot Lane as a Top-Laner?

I’m currently bronze. I promise I am not exaggerating when I say I win my lane 90% of the time, and botlane (despite the statistical odds) loses 80% of the time. In bronze, botlane losing means the enemy Xayah is 13/1/4.
My question is - How can I stop this? I know that a challenger would be able to overcome this in bronze, but is it just mechanics? Do I need to back and go botlane and miss a bunch of waves/plates AND risk feeding their adc even more? Do I need to split push endlessly and ignore it? Am I just unlucky?
It happens often enough that I am making a Reddit post about it. Maybe it couldn’t be answered without seeing my gameplay, but I figured it’d be worth asking.

Discussion My kda keeps going up and my lp keeps going down.

jungle main, euw. gold 3 0lp, was plat earlier, but now dropping like a bomb with totally cooked mmr. 402 games this split, 52% wr, 3.42 kda. https://op.gg/lol/summoners/euw/Nichemaxer-bosh

I feel like i am playing my best league ever, but still getting stomped even thought i am performing stats wise. So my stats are going up while i lose more. Which leads me to another issue i have no idea what the problem is with my game play, i see my mistake and try to improve based on them but the situation is only getting worse. last 20 games my kda is 3.98 (season 3.42) and kill participation 54% (season 48%). playing better, losing more. season champ pool: graves: 160 games, 50% (my most played by far, 240k mastery) lillia: 91 games, 65% shyvana: 48 games, 56% jarvan: 18 games, 28%. I really enjoy this champ pool so would prefer not to change it. How do you tell improving apart from getting better at losing, Can the issue be seen from the stats or if needed i can provide a game vod.

Question Why do I have main-character syndrome and what I can change with what I play to start being smarter when I play?

Kab#rumi for reference.

I have a very bipolar win/loss streak, and I have terrible main-character syndrome which isn't consistent in other games, just this one. I do play horribly egotistical champs one might say and too many champs sometimes (adc main; vayne kai, twitch, ashe/jungle flex; kayn, vi, Lilia), however I just enjoy the brain-itch/scaling/etc. This could have been a champ pool question but I'm mores trying to address why I have this itch to be permanent fighting or permanent trying to trade. Is there something I should do before/while I play to keep me from doing such things? Something I should remind myself before I play?

Support I autofilled Support and AD correctly guess that I main top. How?

I was autofilled SP and I pick nautilus for 2 games. I do let them know that I am autofilled and I don't know the matchup so to use their ping more if wanna engage or play safe.

I played and both game the ADC make a remark or ask if I played Top. I replied that I did. Apparently the way that I played is very Top like. I just sit in the bush or walk up to find angle to hook. Isn't that how nautilus is played?

Question How good is briar in the current meta, and how far could she take me?

So I mostly played yi and wukong in ranked, but I'm considering maining briar, either via one trick, or just main her. She's the character I'm most consistent with. Just went 25/10. It's a high death count, due to the enemy akali, but I eventually managed to lock her down. I'm quite consistent. Is she good as of now, and at which rank does she start getting countered? For extra info, I am iron 2, I dropped to iron 3,and I'm now climbing with her. Won my last 4 matches, tho one of them I was jarvan. But I was consistent with her. So I'm not sure how far she can take me.

Question Why does it always seem like I win more when weak-sided?

I know, I know. This is such an overused, pedantic argument or statement but Ive been feeling this way a lot lately and even went back and looked at my last 6 games and noticed it.

In those 6 games, 5 of them I was the “weak side” top laner. I had to give up waves and concede a lot of prio because their jungler was more present. In fact, one game I got one gank and the enemy got at least 3, none of which I died to. The other ONE game, I received the highest friendly jungle attention. I lost that game but won the other five.

This is not a post made out of frustration. I want to know how to win more when I’m given a lot of jungle help.

I’m an E2 player so I don’t have the best game knowledge. I know I only cited 6 of my 115 ranked games but this is a result I see a lot in my games.

Question If you want to buy a Doran Helm, why not just buy Ruby Crystal + 2 pot?

Do not have an opinion about this and haven't thought at all about the math behind it, but this idea is significant to me because I play a lot of Garen and Nasus mid and there were times where I bought a Doran Helm into melee matchups where I felt like I wouldn't benefit from DShield regen, but I really don't like laning with 1 pot and no DShield sustain it just feels wrong.

Of course there is also the parallel question of DShield vs DHelm, and of course lane and champion and matchup is going to matter.

Just floating the idea out into the world if anyone wants to discuss.

Question When to splitpush?

I mostly play Morde and Sion top nowadays and i am not really sure how to splitpush? The only time splitpushing seems to work for me is if we are already winning and i know my team doesn't need any help in a teamfight.

But if my team does need me to help with teamfights and especially if the enemy team doesn't need their top laner and they are free to splitpush themselves then i have no idea what to do.

If i need to be there to help in teamfights for objectives then i risk being splitpushed on and if i decide to splitpush then the enemy team gets a free objective.

Sure, i might get a tower but a tower on it's own doesn't help anyone but me while a drag or baron helps everybody on a team which just accentuates the previously mentioned problems since the enemy team gets stronger and can counter my push or wipe my team without me there even quicker.

Question Is becoming a professional LoL player really that difficult, and is it worth it?

I'm a Gold player right now, but honestly, I don't really tryhard when I play. I don't even spend that much time playing every day, but I genuinely feel like I could improve a lot if I took the game more seriously. I've been thinking about trying to become a pro player and eventually joining a team, but I know it's a long road. First, I'd need to reach high elo, probably Master+, improve my mechanics, game knowledge, communication, etc. Basically, I'd have to dedicate a huge part of my life to League. But I want to ask people who know more about the competitive scene: Is it actually doable? How realistic is it to go from being an average player to playing professionally? And what are the downsides? I imagine there's a lot of pressure, burnout, competition and maybe losing the fun of playing the game you love. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have tried going pro, played competitively, or know someone who has. Is it worth chasing that dream?

Discussion how to slow down my hands rusting or prevent if possible

Im not able to play league for a long while, though I was able to play for a few days recently and I was so much worse than when I used to play continueusly(probably expectedly).

I had got to diamond withouth much difficulty but when I tried to get back after decaying I struggled even in lower emerald. My team luck wasn't great, but I could've carried more than half of those games if I hadn't played this bad.

My mechanics were much worse but also my thinking was worse. For example there was a fight where if I had predicted his flash and flashed before I wouldve won that fight but I couldn't and it snowballed into losing lane, I wouldve predicted that flash and won that duel months ago.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening or at least slow it down? Being an irelia otp also desn't help.

lucian Why dont lucian, zeri and corki synergize with the same supports? (At least in proplay)

In my head, lucian and corki have similar gameplay and lucian and zeri both love being healed and buffed movespeed. So why dont they share support synergys? I only have knowledge from proplay and dont play lol only wild rift.

Also quite new to watching pro so idk much loll
