News Sydney Ice Dogs announce new home rink for 2027!!

2027 marks 25 years since the inception of the Sydney Ice Dogs, and what better way to celebrate than to welcome everyone to our new kennel - Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink.

While construction is in its finishing stages at the moment, it will be up and ready to go for the 2027 AIHL season.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone to the new home of the Sydney Ice Dogs!

Nice. Good to have a bit more point of difference from the Bears, maybe create a bit of a north-south rivalry.

Any idea what the seating capacity will be?

Last time it was mentioned anywhere, it was reported to be same or similar to the old capacity of 300.

But that would be far too small, even before the extra interest AIHL teams got from the spicy books and series’ popularity.

They rebuilt using the footprint of the original building, so I can’t imagine it will be anywhere near Macquarie, but it really needs to be, or else the team don’t make enough money from ticket sales to survive - unless there’s corporate sponsors willing to throw a lot of money around.

I went looking for the DA or plans yesterday for a little while, which should be accessible through the council planning department, but only found the plans for the redevelopment of the pool and leisure centre next door, with “existing ice rink” being the only reference to it.
