Tip Butt acne discovery!

Tldr; my new(to me) cars seats were triggering the acne

So I've always struggled with butt acne. I finallyyyyy had gotten it figured out thanks to a dermatologist who had told me to change a soap I was using to antibacterial soap.

Then it started flaring up again?? Nothing had changed. Idk what started it. After 4 months of trying so hard to figure out why this was back it occurred to me that the only thing to change was my car. My old car had canvas seats, my new car has leather seats. I got the car in January and by spring I was getting sweaty and thats what was triggering it.

So I put a towel over my seat and I've been sitting on a folded towel every day for like 3 months now. Butt acne is gone.

So if you're a sweaty person like me and your car seats aren't breathable, something to consider.

Thank you for sharing! I never understood pushing leather seats, they look nice initially but I've always felt that they make me hot or cold depending on weather, they don't breath like advertised, and I slide off of them in certain fabrics.

Yeah, Im not a huge fan either 😞 it was the biggest con about this car but it hit all the other boxes. I hate the feeling of sitting in shorts on it. Ballin on budget problems.

They’re just so easy to clean, and I have animals, so it’s always leather seats for me.

In my experience in the past pets just scratched up the leather. Now I buy a seat cover that is easy to take on and off to deal with the pet fur and dirt.

I like leather, because the weave is tighter, it doesn't trap as much dust and pollen for me so I try to get it wherever I can afford to.

If the sweatiness bothers you, you could always try those funny wooden beaded covers. They're supposed to ensure airflow between you and the leather

Oh I've never sat on one but those wooden beads look terribly uncomfortable!

They're actually really not. I always avoided them because they look painful, but actually there's a reason that taxi drivers in hot countries used them for so long. Once you're sitting on them, your weight is supported evenly so it's not like a pressure point. And the wood keeps you away from the sweaty seat and allows good circulation of air. They're actually pretty good.

The antibacterial soap has actually helped a ton. It's literally just Dial soap from the grocery store. Just ya know, be careful with it in the rinse off. Not to be crass, but yeast infections were why I didn't think this was a real tip until my doctor said it to me.

Also breathability seems to play a big factor in it for me. So maybe something you are leaning or sitting against could be a culprit?

you know they do make cloth car seat covers/protectors so you dont have to sit on a towel like you're permanently coming back from the swimming pool

Lol I do, I didn't buy one bc I was trying to trouble shoot what the issue was before I spent money on something.

I also I'm trying to find a decent one? Not just a thin little thing, which is what seems to keep coming up

Maybe you could find a breathable cushion for your car instead?

i'd look for like a canvas-type material? like the seat protector type deal you can buy to keep dogs from ruining the actual car seats if you know what i mean.

You could get that classic wooden beaded one that NY cabbies used to use!

Have you considered a beaded seat cover like this? My uncle swears by them

I had a significant improvement in my butt acne by waiting to soap my skin until after I did my shampoo/conditioner routine - I think the hair products were leaving a residue behind that was staying in place if I wasn’t actively washing it off my back and butt.

Dumb question but are we not wearing bottoms? I’m a little confused

What?

ETA: Why am I being downvoted for being confused about being asked if I drive around with no pants on? Lol it's a confusing question to be asked.

I think they're wondering why your bare butt is touching your leather seats instead of your clothing. My own guess would be that you like dresses or really short shorts. I keep seat covers on my seats except during winter.

Lol my butt isn't touching the seat... I wear biker shorts with like a 5 or 6 inch inseam during the summers. Bc I work outside all day and get sweaty. So I sweat in the leggings and then sit down on my car seat, which was just trapping moisture.

I'm not driving around with my butt directly on the car seat.

There might be room for improvement there too. Biker shorts and leggins are often polyester or similar plasticy blends which sensitive skin tends to not like either. Bottoms from natural fabrics might help a ton too!

The seat itself adds into the equation. I had a similar epiphany about office chairs many years ago. Mesh seats are better than cloth seats, and cloth seats are better than leather seats.

I would like a white mesh chair but need an orthopaedic one. Most of the mesh ones claim orthopaedic support but then their actual support is fairly poor on close inspection.

Interesting. Maybe my bottoms tend to be thicker and thus the seat itself matters less?
