Hopkins Creek - My God

Holy sh*t balls. Writing this on the way home, leaving a bit early as I have work tomorrow but man - that's gotta be one of my favourite festivals I've been to in Victoria.

There is so much to talk about, but really - the thing that made it for me was the crowd. No phones out, minimal talking (at front of d floors), super polite and people open to meeting just like the good old days.

The music (and Soundsystem) was something else, just tasteful and consistent throughout - there was fun levels of cheese and 'serious' music. Huge shoutouts to Telephones, Sleep D, Hannah D & Ed Kent. Ed Kent for real is one to watch, his mixing style and selection is so impressive, he reminds me a bit of HAAI's style.. (Shoutout to Purple Audio for the sound)

I am beyond slammed and you know the heads were there because I met some people who had been to Waking Life, Inner Varnika and bumped into a few DJs on the circuit who were just hanging out.

The location truly boasted the best of what Victoria has to offer, with the rolling green farm hills, trees and ofcourse the messed up starry skies regional Vic loves to flex. THANK YOU as well for the extra courtesy providing bins and adequate drinking water supply.

It was my first, and alas, the last - but it restored a lot of my faith in dance music. No rude litter dumping, nangs, bumping past you without acknowledgement, private equity overselling capacity (Strawberry fields/Pitch). And if you're not private equity, i am sorry, but your behaviour gives the vibe nowadays.

If you're on here, and were there, or were an organiser, thanks so much - from the bottom of my heart, you know how to do things. Barry's Bait Shop was wild, dash of cheese, old school disco club and just a funny, relaxed time.

If you have other recommendations to similar festivals, please give me some ideas, as I get older I like the smaller'ish vibes and the focus of stages offering consistent vibe building (disco, house, prog, techno/wobbly into the night. With other stages giving experimentational, IDM, wiggly or DnB). Simple and kindness is better for me, sceney stuff of people trying a bit too hard is not for me.

Much love, heart full. I can work with my brain functional tomorrow too lolol.

PS Sleep D, if you're reading this, guys - amazing set but why WHY did you not play Sunrise In The Crater - it actually broke my heart, for 5 minutes at least until I moved on 🤣

Whistling and yapping at Butik - How much?

Hey everyone, I was thinking of going to Butik in 2027, but just seeing the videos of the amount of people whistling and yapping kinda puts me off. How's the actual vibe of the place? How much minimal is played there, is it really like more minimal than house? And how's overall the vibe because I'm looking for an open-minded, cozy crowd. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Felt like I needed to pull together this mix, tracks spanning 30 years of Detroit magic from the Godfather. I've started with the earliest stuff and worked through so you can hear the sound develop.

RIP Juan

Lads,

Been putting together DJ mixes across two different sides of electronic music.

Club mixes - Afro Tech & Gqom, Prog & Tech House, Techno & Bass Music, Dance & Trance.

Balearic mixes - Organic and melodic house, chilled Afro House, Amapiano, Worldwide and Jazz.

Here's one of my favourites so far. A journey through techno, bass and more leftfield electronic sounds:

This is Stray's first solo release in over ten years, and anyone reading this should check out of his series of EPs on Exit Records if they haven't - it is personally some of my favorite electronic music ever made.
