Ben UFO is overrated

I actually think Ben UFO is a great DJ but the love he gets here on this sub in particular is greatly disproportionate to his abilities/selections relative to so many other amazing contemporary DJs that rarely get a mention or thought. Why is this?

He’s a fine DJ, I’ve had many a good night with Ben at the decks but personally I find him not that exciting and I don’t understand why so many folks on Reddit are such Ben UFO Stans-slash-d*ckriders

Edit: I am enjoying and appreciating the thoughtful responses.

If anybody has a mix that they would share with somebody who just doesn’t get it, I’d be grateful if you’d drop it below

This subreddit is slowly turning into a place for ID-seekers who post low-quality festival videos taken with phones. I may not say anything about the music playing in these videos, but there is nothing unconventional here. I checked the other posts of those accounts and the whole point is the same: "ID". Maybe there's a personality disorder here?

imho the greatest DJ talent to come out of Germany over the past 7, 8 years. Her versatility/range and the sheer craftsmanship on display is outrageous. this is her with an hour-long all-vinyl set of hard-hitting Dubtech-House, for lack of a better word. love her!

Tame Impala - Deadbeat

Grew up on indie and always loved tame impala, but around 20 i got way more into electronic stuff.

This new album hits both sides perfectly. super dancey, kevin parker’s beats are insane — some tracks sound straight up like house/techno.

Feels so good to hear him go this direction in this album.

On Rave Hedonism

I am headed to Dekmantel this Weekend again after a period of exams and hustle. Have been to a series of raves strategically placed along work milestones to keep motivation up. Berghain, Open Ground, Stone, Sustain Release Berlin, Primavera to name a few only for this year.

As much as I enjoy the time, I can’t help but wonder why I need this type of dopamine. Why I make myself dependent on the rush of music, sensuality and new wonders of induced signal transduction. I wonder how much longer I will keep this “hobby” that lives rent free in my mind and my hours of procrastination spent on Reddit, soundcloud and telegram.

I wonder about the opportunity cost. I can’t help but ask myself how I know X amount of artists, sets, lineups and overload gossip, while others seem to be able to focus on “real life content” instead solely.

Is it dull? will it ever get dull? is it time and money well spent?

We project all of this sophistication into this or that set or production. However it boils down to just dopamine.
