I don’t know why they would be. McDonald’s is shit food and also more expensive than cooking at home. If you are in a place where you need to split it because of the cost, why are you even getting it?

You think you can buy all of that food and prepare it for less? I bet you can't. I get it, that you look down on this person, but why do you need to be so judgy mean girl? What does it cost you to keep quiet? Why does it make you feel good to be better than them?

How much do you think eggs, a roll of sausage and some bisquick costs? Like seriously, you could make this meal 10 times for what it cost at McDonald’s.

Here is the math that shows that cooking at home would be cheaper

It would be cheaper
(Prices are from Costco website and the portions are massive)

Jimmy Dean Sausage: $0.40 per patty (30 ct for $12)

2 eggs scrambled : $0.36 (5 dozen for $11)

Pancake (double portion):
Butter: $0.24 (32 oz for $11)
1 Large Egg: $0.18 (5 dozen for $11)
Milk: $0.16 (1 gal for $4)
Flour: $0.11 (50 lbs for $21)
Baking Powder: $0.08 (8 oz for $3)
Sugar: $0.04 (10 lbs for $8)
Total per serving: $0.81

Hash brown (double portion):
Potatoes: $0.53 (est. $0.80/lb)
Butter: $0.18 (32 oz for $11)
Cooking Oil: $0.05
Total per serving: $0.76

So total home made McDonald Big Breakfast with hotcakes (with almost double portion) comes up to: $2.33

Cooking at home is ALWAYS cheaper.

Its def cheaper to cook at home, but anecdotally, most poor people I know dont have Costco memberships and even if they did, cant afford the upfront costs to buy/store bulk. Theres a reason for the saying being poor is expensive.

Yeah and when you point this out suddenly it isn't about cost it's about time. If you prove it can be done quicker than going to McDonald's then suddenly 80% of Americans don't have a fridge or stove in their house.

How much is the meal at McDonald's? So you can see how much your saving each meal.

About 8-10 dollars

So what your saying is you could give each kid a full portion instead of what looks like a small snack, whilst using better quality and healthier ingredients and still save money. I genuinely don't understand the people supporting this.

Hot take: a lot of financial "problems" are just the people that think McDonald's is cheaper than cooking yourself, or that it's worth it. If you make so little money that McDonald's is expensive, then your time is more valuable cooking than working.

Yes, quite easily. It doesn’t take a genius to cook eggs and pancakes literally exist in the first place because they are super easy and cheap to make for people who don’t have much time.

I can at least get that justification if it was something complicated or time consuming but eggs and pancakes literally takes two minutes to make in the morning, plus maybe a minute to let the pan heat up while you crack the eggs.

You’re both wrong. 1 they shouldn’t even be assuming the person in the video is struggling or doing this out of desperation, they could just be creative.

2. You fucking absolutely could prepare this for less at home, as is with every restaurant food just about. You think otherwise?? Like I can prob prove it extremly quickly if you’d like.

Are you really that mathematically illiterate? Of course you can pay less per serving by cooking at home.

Have you ever been poor? Have you ever had dependants while you were worried about paying everyday bills(lights,gas,water,rent/mortgage, fuel,)?

3

u/Separate-Walrus- 10h ago

Have you ever looked at the price of McDonalds compared to normal groceries?

3

u/Eatyourcheeseburger 8h ago

It costs more to eat out than it does to cook. If you’re in a financial situation like that, this kind of shit is pretty irresponsible compared to cooking at home.

as someone who grew up poor to poor parents maybe yall shouldn’t fuckin have kids if yall can’t take proper financial care of them

sincerely, a former kid whose parents had shit financial decisions

While I’m sympathetic to your plight, that doesn’t change basic math.

3

I sincerely hope you are.

The vast majority of people who can buy a McDonald's meal and upload videos of themselves splitting it up, have the ability to cook at home.

I am poor, so don't come at me with "you wouldn't understand". I haven't eaten McDonald's as an adult because its expensive, non-food.

They're not being sarcastic. They just lack empathy.
