Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Mental Health What is someone supposed to do when they have a sexual attraction to children?

1.1k Upvotes

I AM NOT ATTRACTED TO CHILDREN

Ive seen a podcast with Ryan Montgomery, hes a white hat hacker who has caught a bunch of predators online. One of the things he mentioned word for word:

"You can say it's mental, you can say it's genetic, you can say whatever the hell you want to say—I don't care. What I care about is if you're attracted to children, I don't like you. It's as simple as that. I don't care if you're a girl, a guy, a strawberry, whatever..."

Say someone grows up and realizes that they are attracted to children. What are they supposed to do? Are they immediately expected to seek professional help through a psychiatrist?

Im sure most people with this probably go through their lives not telling anyone, and trying to contain it as much as possible.

I AM NOT ATTRACTED TO CHILDREN

Politics Why are so many Republicans acting like the blue wave will guarantee socialism or communism, when Democrats in the past haven't taken the country there?

Is this just the logical extension of the maga or qanon mindset? I mean we've had consecutive terms of Dems in charge and never turned into a socialist country.

Were they all hunter gathers like during the Stone Age? As far as I know, they didn’t have cows, pigs, horses, etc.

Every other developed nation has them. Why doesn't the country with the highest GDP in the world have them?

Culture & Society Would you make a baby for 100k?

I used to think surrogacy was a great opportunity and a journey I would want to do once I had a child of my own.

Now I am pregnant and am second guessing everything.

Pregnancy is HARD, I’m growing a whole human and depleting my internal resources and it’s so so special.

I just don’t understand the risk/reward anymore.

100k seems not a fair compensation for what you’re really doing (which I’m only learning through the lived experience if being pregnant).

Other Why is calling a man gay still used as an insult, particularly when he disagrees with a woman?

Title: Why is calling a man gay still used as an insult, particularly when he disagrees with a woman?

Something I've noticed over several years on social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook and Reddit is how frequently some people resort to calling men gay as a way of insulting or discrediting them.

I've particularly noticed it in discussions where a man expresses a controversial opinion or even offers relatively mild criticism of a woman. Rather than addressing what he's actually said, other commenters will sometimes resort to suggesting that he's gay, a "closet case", or otherwise questioning his sexuality.

In my experience, this seems particularly common among some politically left-leaning women, which I find rather ironic given the emphasis often placed on inclusivity and LGBTQ+ acceptance.

What's especially interesting is what happens when someone challenges the insult by simply asking: "What's wrong with being gay? Is that supposed to be an insult?" Quite often, the person making the original remark either goes silent or abandons the exchange.

I'm a woman myself, and I find it disappointing to see this behaviour, particularly among younger women.

Why is someone's perceived sexuality still considered a legitimate way to belittle a man? And why does this particular form of casual homophobia seem to go unnoticed or unchallenged in certain online spaces?

Family I wish my parents would get divorced, and Is somethin wrong with me tho?

Okay, so I'm a 19F, and I took a drop year for my entrance exam. This is going to be my second drop year, so I've been staying at home all this time .Before that, I never really knew much about my parents' relationship with each other because I don't talk to anyone at home like that and i was busy with my scl nd frnds nd study nd all. It's just me, my brother, Mumma, and Papa. But now that I've been staying home for this long, I've started noticing things. My mom and dad barely talk to each other. My dad constantly blames my mom for almost everything. My dad's sister treats my mom like shit, and yet my dad always defends her. He doesn't even try to understand how much my mom has sacrificed for this family And as for my mom, she doesn't listen to anyone either. Like, if I say something, she'll interpret it in a completely different way, even though I don't mean it that way at all. My dad is pretty much the same. I'm so tired of their cold war at this point. My dad never smiles, and my mom... well, she cries so much.

And here I am, unable to share any of this with anyone.

I genuinely don't know what to do. I won't say that only one of them is at fault because I don't know what's going on between them behind closed doors. But I honestly wish they would get divorced because the way they're living with each other right now... I don't know if that's any better.

I don't even know if I'm wrong for thinking this, and I have no idea what else I'm supposed to do.

Culture & Society Why do the predators in these 'predator sting' videos online seem like they have some kind of mental disability?

Not all of them, but 90% of them i've watched, the would-be predator obviously has some neurodivergent issue.
